Strangest bits in Spare…

Motorcycleemptyness · 15/01/2023 22:59

i haven’t quite finished it yet but I wanted to read a thread about some of the weirder bits of Spare, and I haven’t seen a thread where people were discussing those without the ‘H&M’ vs the rest of the RF debate. There are definitely some parts which have made me really question why they were included, and I was wondering if anyone else had any similar thoughts.

The inclusion of the imagery of the poppy fields, and how heroin funds the Taliban. Fair enough. We all know that. The rest of the book is one long ode to posh people taking drugs. Does Prince Harry think the cocaine he takes is gently knitted by fairies and delivered to him by unicorns? Do the drugs he takes not contribute to war and terrorism and misery across the rest of the world (and indeed misery and crime in the UK, where he is 5th in line to be monarch!) I found this quite a strange passage and I was wondering if anyone else had any thoughts, or am I just over thinking it?

Elizabeth Arden cream. ‘Mummy’s lips’. ‘Todger’. Why? But really, why? Why was this included? Why did anyone think it or commit it to paper, and then publish it? Why did I read it? Why am I typing it here? ARGH.

What he actually thinks the relationship between the royal family and the press should actually be. Only reporting true things? Someone had a photo of him taking cocaine. Dressed as a nazi. Calling his colleague a ‘P*ki’. He wasn’t happy, but it was all true. Should journalists not be allowed to report true things? Or should they only be reporting things he wants them to report? Does Andrew get to choose that too? What about everyone else?

What the actual royal family should look like. This was mind bending. He seems to be perfectly happy with the idea of the monarchy, an institution which is predicated on the idea that they’re inherently superior to the rest of us, and that’s their birth right, but seems to massively struggle to apply that to himself and William. If a monarchy is the best system, why shouldn’t the heir be treated differently to the spare? (I don’t believe it is the best system and wish we could abolish them all but I don’t understand how one can believe one but not the other!).

Anyone else have any interesting thoughts?

My son wrote a paper on Saviour Siblings for his degree, with input from an NHS specialist. It is a thing in the UK! Mostly for bone marrow etc rather than organs, but it does exist. I don’t for one moment think this applies to Harry though, but please don’t put the idea in his head! There’s going to be a second book isn’t there? 😬

I've heard of that, but it's really only for stuff like cord blood and bone marrow that won't be missed, and even then both parents and medics are pretty reluctant. Harry seems to believe he is there to provide organs for William if necessary, which is just bizarre.

Farmageddon · 16/01/2023 12:36

Oops, sorry it didn't quote the picture - it's the part where he is describing losing 'Willy' when walking him down the aisle. But he's very complimentary of Kate and gives the impression they are happy together.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/01/2023 12:38

The hideous matron anecdote

I can't even begin to compute what sort of mind could deliver this in the way it was done without conspicuous regret, but it clearly isn't a pleasant one

Presumably she didn't know the man in front of her was prince Andrew, rather than never having heard the name prince Andrew before though.

Another completely unbelievable story.
nobody introduced PA? He just sat quietly in the corner with the Queen’s handbag?
Euge didn’t say “this is my father the duke of York” ?
andrew had a huge ego, I don’t believe for a minute that he wasn’t introduced or introduced himself.

My take on it is that no one thought it necessary to introduce him

Just for people saying ‘maybe the ghost writer made it up’...no that’s not how it works. He has to write what Harry has told him. Imagine the lawsuit(s) if he’d stuck a load of random crap in there without permission! He will have recordings, emails, etc of what Harry has told him which would be referred back to if there was any doubt as to whether or not Harry had said it.

I think the family resemblance is there.

He certainly resembles her brother.

VolcanicAshStorm · 16/01/2023 12:47

I am listening to the audio version, which I have to admit is very entertaining. His hatred of the press is what drips from very page. Even in Afghanistan where he was asked to take some journalists out on patrol - he is hugely derogatory about them. War journalists. He talks about them almost the same way as he talks about Paps. He struggles to see context. And the hypocrisy - he has done nothing this past couple of weeks but to give his stories to the press. Then seems staggered that other areas of the press also report on him.

His lack of self awareness is extraordinary. Charles comes across well - even in the stories he intends as criticism.

He had the world at his feet - the army bending over backwards to appease him, which he appears to accept grudgingly. Wants to go back to war, so head of the armed forces arranges for him to become an Apache pilot. Needs to train so they come to Sandringham and do the training there. Privileges no one else in the army would EVER get.

Maireas · 16/01/2023 12:47

Also, according to Meghan, she knew Eugenie before she knew Harry. She must have known who her father was. She visited the Yorks before she even met the late Queen.

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/01/2023 12:48

I believe very little of what comes out of either of their mouths.

Nobody thought it necessary to introduce him? Have you any idea how rude that sounds to well-bred ears? It's like saying you didn't know it was rude to tread dogmuck into the carpet. It is very important to introduce the lesser person to the higher person. PA would have expected to have MM introduced to him and I am sure that in real life this did happen or else PH was deliberately being rude and snubbing his uncle.

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/01/2023 12:49

(H & M, that is)

Hmmmm

Yes, there are loads and loads of photos that show Prince Charles hugging both his sons - both as adults and children.

And not just photos. That famous footage of Diana rushing along the deck of the Britannia, arms outstretched to hug her sons? If you watch the footage you’ll see Charles following right along behind her (he was delayed with the official goodbyes) and giving both boys a big hug too.

Definitely someone introduced him! Fergie or Euge for sure. I can’t believe for a second that he just stood there with HM’s handbag like a servant 🙄

This all took place in Royal Lodge too - Andrew’s own home! The idea that nobody - not his daughter, his mother, his nephew, his ex-wife or the host himself thought to introduce him is simply risible.

Motorcycleemptyness · 16/01/2023 06:44

Yes! I thought that was weird as well. The only reason I’ve heard of Graham Crackers is because I’ve lived in the USA (I don’t know how much time they spent there as children?) but ‘Graham Crackers’ are pronounced completely differently to the way British people pronounce the name ‘Graham’. Unless the fella himself was American, but it was such an odd detail to include in the book without clarification when clearly a large portion of the audience will be British.

There is a theory brewing on tictok that 'She' wrote the book, this could lay some weight to the theory :-)

Maireas · 16/01/2023 12:57

The no-idea-who-Andrew-is is supposedly further evidence that Meghan never googled the royal family.

Laiste · 16/01/2023 12:57

Sorry ... just to back track ... elizabeth arden cream on his penis. His mother's mouth?

What?
Can anyone enlighten me?

Also - when you look at pics of harry, his eyes quite close together, reminds me a lot of great granny the Queen Mother. Elizabeth Bowes Lyon.

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/01/2023 12:58

I thought the bit about how ‘moved’ William was at being given cold remedies by Meg before meanie Kate disparaged them sounded very unlike something Harry would say. Who’s honestly ‘moved’ by something like that?

I’m quite sure there are several voices in this book...Harry, Meghan and at least one ‘therapist’. Plus god knows how many drug-induced ones!

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 16/01/2023 12:59

Farmageddon · 16/01/2023 12:35

Hang on, so in this bit he's basically saying that William and Kate are happy together and good for each other.

But doesn't he also insinuate later on that theirs was a marriage of convenience, and William didn't really love her or something? (sorry haven't read the book).

Not in the book (although there is enough about how in love he and M are that basically says that he considers their love to be more special and magical than the loviest love story in the history of the world).

Where he has made snidey comments is in interviews - suggesting that William had to pick someone who fitted the mould rather than his true love.

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/01/2023 13:00

@Laiste He says Diana used to wear Elizabeth Arden on her lips. He then talks about applying cream to his nether regions whilst feeling that his mother was there in the room with him.

Harry definitely has the Mountbatten eyes and nose.

Yes he does. He is like Louis Mountbatten.
Apart from the red Spencer hair, he is totally his father’s son in appearance, although not anywhere near as handsome as young Prince Phillip, or even young Charles.

Thank you.

Ok.

Not weird at.all

😵

TangledWebOfDeception · 16/01/2023 13:08

@Laiste It’s deeply disturbing, isn’t it. And the fact that he thought it was a good idea to talk about it in his ‘historically important book’, which his children will someday have to read/hear about, whilst lecturing W & K on how to raise their children and saying he’s going to ‘save KC and W from themselves’ is just...well he’s either drug-addled/dim and extremely vulnerable/narcissistic/trolling us all/willing to do or say absolutely anything for the money. Or some combination of all.

Lunde · 16/01/2023 13:09

Thinking of his mother's lips when spreading cream on his "todger" (needs MUCH more therapy)

The whole racism issue - backtracking from the Oprah bombshells although they'd used it to attach themselves to the BLM issue and his own racism (use of the P-word and thinking Nazis are jolly japes) - for which he takes no personal responsibility

The primary school level of pettiness against William

Mocking the disabled school staff member

Deliberately hitting his Royal Protection Officer knowing that the guy could not hit him back
