Harry had little access to money

Harry was given Nottingham Cottage a 2 bedroom cottage presumably rent free. He was given security paid by the taxpayers. He was also given a clothing allowance from Charles to pay for clothes for formal public occasions.

But he obviously had little access to money. He bought his casual clothes cheap from TK Maxx and talks about drying shirts on radiators.

When he told Charles he was going to marry Meghan Charles said he could not afford to pay for Meghan and Harry as he was already paying for William and Catherine. Charles suggested Meghan continued working to pay for Garry and Meghan. Meghan paid for furniture from Ikea and sofa.com to improve the furnishings in Nottingham Cottage.

Charles paid for Harry and Meghan's wedding. Although Meghan paid for her own wedding dress. The taxpayers paid for the security.

Remember Harry and Meghan were working Royals.

The taxpayers paid for the renovation of Frogmore Cottage. A cost that Harry and Meghna paid back when they left the Royal Family.

The Civil List used to give a defined amount to each working Royal. But that was changed and all the money went to the heir to dole out.

The Queen and Charles appear to be remarkably stingy towards their own child and grandchild.

i can understand why my parents always said its best to earn your own money, I have no sympathy for Prince Harry pleading poverty but I can't imagine leading such a life. I mean, my dad offered to buy me a house in London in cash but not in the area I would have wanted to live in and in his name (so DH and I would be living there rent free). I was aware of the problems this could pose and I am certain that I would have been more unhappy than grateful in such a situation. Hence why I bought a flat in London with DH (with a big mortgage) because I value my autonomy more than having a 'free house' (which I would eventually have inherited). So i can kinda understand Harry's feeling of helplessness at a life where he gets everything but with no autonomy.

Harry and Meghan did the same but on a way bigger scale but thankfully I don't need to diss my family in front of the world to maintain my lifestyle.

The whole thing is so messed up.

If he's poor how did he manage to rent a house in the Cotswolds?

Harry had Diana's engagement ring and gave it William for Kate.

It was gifted to the right wife. Thats evident

IcedPurple · 13/01/2023 17:47

Why does he have 'no autonomy'? Nobody stopped him from running off to California, did they?

He chose to leave the army and become a working royal. Andrew stayed until his 40s. As a member of the royal family, Harry would have vastly more options than someone of his abilities, or lack thereof, born to an 'ordinary' family.

I think the Op is the same one who kept insisting there were no photos of Harry skiing the day before the Queen Mother died.

But then I also expect it might be a visitor from the Reddit sub, who admits to trolling the RF board.

I can’t believe anyone is this bonkers.

Ah the Reddit sub makes sense. Nothing says you're not obsessed with MN like starting an entire Reddit sub and then posting about MN even when you're not on MN 😂

Harry was not a drug addict. You people just make things up.

So did Harry, when he talked about shopping at the "big sale" at TK Maxx. He went into a lot of detail describing something that didn't happen, per TK Maxx.

PupInAPram · 13/01/2023 17:52

I feel the urge to start a just giving page for the poor loves. I mean, I know he has tens of millions from book sales, Netflix, inheritances etc (net worth of about £50 million) but really, he has a leccy bill just like the rest of us.

JonahCL9 · 13/01/2023 17:53

The Range debate has prompted me to do a diagram of my local Range layout. I've superimposed Kate into it (she's the one at the tills wearing a crown). Lots of space behind the tills in our local for a photo to be taken but to be fair to the OP there probably is enough space for a dedicated press pack area too so I've marked that on

Lots of people on MN do cocaine. Is that what that thread I've seen that is running is really about? How normal Harry is to be snorting coke. When was this again? When he was at school still? Or when he was studying at Military College? Or when he was in the actual army? Or when he was a fully fledged adult after having served in the military for ten years?

Cos my recollection is that not only is cocaine illegal and it might land you a jail term, but if you are caught doing it in a position of authority or responsibility you lose your job. Even if it's a one off. Cos that's normal. And that's why it's only bellends that do coke. And only bellends that normalise coke and say it's just a one off and they won't ever do it again. Until the next opportunity.

He came from Windsor she had a thirst for drinking out of anything you acknowledge
He studied helicopters at Sandringham College
That's where the bin
Caught his eye

He told me that his granny was loaded
He said, in that's why he got away with blagging everyone else coke
He said its fine

And then in thirty seconds time he said
I wanna live like common people
I wanna do whatever common people do
Wanna sleep with common people
I wanna sleep with common people
Like you
Oh what else could I do
I said I'll, I'll see what I can do

I ❤️ you 😂 this is genius!

Harry had the benefit of the finest fee paying education in England. According to him he is a highly trained helicopter pilot - cost 3 million to train. He could easily segue in to some kind of aviation business and fund his lifestyle very comfortably on top of all the passive income he already has. He knows plenty of wealthy investors who would shoulder the risk of, as is true to form, he doesn’t want to dip his hand in to his own pockets. He cries about not being prepared for life when he has had one hundred times the opportunities to develop his skills compared to almost anyone else. There was absolutely nothing stopping him saying I want to work hard and stand on my own two feet. People would have respected him for that. Instead he has cried for three years now about how he still didn’t get what he wanted, that’s it all someone else’s fault and the only way he can make money is to sell the family secrets. He is pathetic.

He isn’t now though is he?

And during the last couple of years, it was pretty obvious that his father would soon be taking up the top job!

The family obviously still perceive him
as the naughty grandchild when he’s a married man with children.

How galling in those circumstances to be the son of the monarch and see your aunt and uncles living in better circumstances than you do?

He hasn’t been treated respectfully imho and I hazard a guess that this harks back in some subconscious way to Charles’s seeing him as a Spenser not a Windsor! And the Windsors still hold all the power!

William has the protection of being heir which Harry does not.

And of course the press are far more interested nowadays in what stately pile has been acquired for which family member, than in the days when the Queen bought Gatcombe for example, which would have been covered by a paragraph or two in a newspaper.

He only recently became the son of the monarch. Why would he get a stately home provided for him when he fucked off to Montecito to earn his own money? Seeing as he has little to offer in the way of talent or skills, he's sold out his own family for his own financial gain. Despicable!

He was not short of ski, beach holidays, other perks or anything really haha.

And that 100k engagement dress spooked Charles who made a salvo warning. Not payin' for the lady's just acquired expensive tastes Harry. Meghan was getting ready to raid the coffers but they never let her take control of the numbers 😅😅💵💵💵

Off to America to sell trade secret to Netflix then

Coxspurplepippin · 13/01/2023 17:58

JonahCL9, I would love Kate to wear a crown in the Range. Preferably one made by Louis with fruit gums for jewels.

Wrong again. He said in the book that he had never had the ring, William always had it.

StressedToTheMaxxx · 13/01/2023 18:02

Poor Garry, bet he had to spend the last of his money on the bus fare to his local food bank.

Ah that’s interesting. Someone (on another thread) was insistent that Harry claimed he was bullied by William into giving up the ring in exchange for their mothers watch.

Did the H&M trolls get confused about who was starting the 'poor financially-poor Harry' thread today? There's another one exactly the same.
Is it a big thing in the US to feel sorry for rich people who have to pay for stuff? All this sycophancy towards millionaires is obscene. Maybe you can bulk buy his book OP. That will make up for his mean family only giving him tens of millions of pounds in inheritances, plus trusts and allowances.

Not with this American, No!

Many of us can't stand his whining and just want him to realize his immense privilege and just hope that he'd use it for good.

Not according to the book. But I mean, it’s not a reliable account so who knows!

Countdown2023 · 13/01/2023 18:11

Maybe he needs to understand his subconscious bias in regards to wealth and what real work actually means.

Not all of us have therapists on speed dial, most of us are reliant on the NHS

Who is going to invest in his business? Wealthy investors have better options than prince harry. He isn't very smart and so he can't do what former politicians do- take on advisory roles at big companies..that's why he has to sell the family secrets.

babsanderson · 13/01/2023 11:57

He should have had enough money to but clothes without personally going to TK Maxx and buying cheap clothes. And to be able to buy nice furniture without Meghan having to pay for it.
This isn't unreasonable.

Why should he? I'm a teacher and myself and most other public servents work very hard and buy 'cheap clothes' from the high street and furniture from IKEA.

Hang on, Harry complained he's "not a normal person because he doesn't own his own car"?!

I seem to remember the Queen and Prince Philip owned their own motors. And drove on public roads. That is, until Philip crashed, IIRC. Didn't Diana drive too?

Absolutely no reason why Harry couldn't have had his own car to drive on public roads. Unless he simply wasn't interested in owning one or driving on public roads? 🤷‍♂️

No way could he have his own car with all the drugs he was on!!

I mean if you’d read my post you’d see I did say that if he wasn’t willing to stump up his own cash - which he has plenty of- there would be many people willing bung him what is to them a small amount of money (few million) to get the business off the ground. In many cases it would be in their interest to do so as it could mean a significant tax saving. I’ve also just come up with this scheme in literally ten seconds when considering his background as I was typing the post. Just imagine what Harry and a business advisor could come up with if they gave it even one minute’s thought! That’s the thing you see, Harry has not even considered making money through any other means but selling his story. The Oprah interview was arranged well before they left the royal family for example. This has been his one and only plan.
