I think this explains a lot. We have always known he had a history of drug use but the fact he is still (or until pretty recently) smoking cannabis, when we know that long term usage can cause paranoia, makes sense of his belief people in his family are briefing against him, his absolute conviction that all kinds of petty things in the past from his bedroom size to expressions on Kate’s face show deep hostility to Meghan and him.

I am not dismissing the fact that Meghan has been the victim of racism both inside and outside the family (Princess Michael’s brooch/ the worst stuff in the press and online) but Harry seems very ready to take it as representative of wider attitudes. I wonder if part of the problem has been that when Meghan has needed help navigating and translating an alien culture and family, the help he has given her has been reflective of his own paranoia and encouraged her to interpret things as hostile when they’re not meant that way.

The thing is given his history with the press and the racism that still exists they do have a lot to be paranoid about but what if his ‘everyone’s out to get us’ ageing stoner brain is stopping him keeping it in proportion?

When Bradby said that people would be surprised to learn that he did coke, I was wondering what he was on at that point. I mean, those posh kids are using it every weekend since forever and he knows it 🙄

This is an interesting point, because all the habitual weed smokers I used to know (used to because I distanced myself) became conspiracy theorists and quite insular, a couple out right agoraphobic. They also seem to become much more egocentric as well, some outright violent and sociopathic traits, others very anxious and suspicious. I smoked it as a teenager, and have had lifelong anxiety issues (though not sure which came first for me the chicken or the egg). I would never smoke it again now and been a good many years since I did. I don't think it was a positive for me although it did give me a peer group as a teenager when I was a bit of a loner before that. I'm a loner again now, but my anxiety is improving the longer I'm away from that peer group, I think it's a combination of both the drug itself and the people who use/smoke it, but it definitely is dangerous mental health wise. I have a couple of friends who developed psychosis or schizophrenia and are now staunchly anti drugs (and also teetotal). I have benefited from taking CBD oil though at points for anxiety, and I don't think the plant is evil, in combination with THC it definitely has some medical benefits also, but outside of medical usage for specific conditions, and certainly recreationally, I have seen it do infinitely more harm than good.

I didn’t know that about Meghan - I wouldn’t have had her down as a recreational drug user as she seems to me the sort of person who likes to be in control of herself. But if it is much more normal in her circles (actors/hippie influenced California) it makes sense.
Though I had read his description of himself slipping outside after everyone else is asleep as suggesting she wasn’t necessarily on board with it at that point in their lives.

It's pretty well known now that regular drug use linked to poor mental health especially for those who regularly smoke before their brain is fully formed. Yes some people can smoke occasionally and it have no impact but like all aspects of mental health - those with adverse childhood experiences and trauma are way more likely to suffer ill effects.

He's clearly an addict. He's got that weird wide eye look.

Right, a current user. He is hardly going to rock the boat by admitting his real, current habits with kids in the house. I have seen it in so many people. You cannot miss it.
