How can a person tell if someone has hair extensions just by looking at their hair.

I think it’s easy to tell.

This was taken today. Definitely no extensions.

Has anyone actually met Kate, Pippa or the Middletons?

She has extensions, that’s been established numerous times previously.

It’s not been established at all. Just some people adamant she has because she has long thick hair 😂

monsteramunch · 12/01/2023 18:57

@Pearsandclocks

Re the pic you just shared of KM (her hair looks absolutely beautiful there by the way), it's perfectly possible for a high end stylist to achieve this natural look with quality extensions. A top level stylist (something she would have access to on demand) will ensure placement that doesn't reveal bonds or tracks in wind.

That isn't to say she doesn't have naturally gorgeous hair, I'm just saying that people can have extensions that aren't noticeable to the untrained eye. They aren't all half hanging on tracks that the wind reveals as soon as it whispers!

....but if his name is Gary Middleton then surely it isn't his sister he adores but his sister in law ???

It isn't, it's Gary Goldsmith. I remember that from around the time of the wedding or the engagement. One of the tabloids that now loves to hate Meghan made some barely disguised anti-semitic implications that Kate was part Jewish.

MintyFreshOne · 12/01/2023 19:06

Lol I’ll just leave this here

m.independent.ie/style/beauty/hair/finally-the-secret-to-kate-middletons-perfect-hair-revealed-as-extensions-30846913.html

And again, it should be NBD. Everyone in the public eye makes use of things like this and it’s just normal! Like how is this different from getting nails done before an event? That obvs isn’t natural either 😆

Anon778833 · 12/01/2023 19:25

You aren't supposed to be able to tell if someone has extensions- that's the whole point 🤣

If the RF can't get the best ones available then who could.

There are plenty of celebrities who wear perfect extensions that are invisible to the eye.

Yes it has been established <sigh>

There are loads of side by side photos online with substantial differences between the two. Some have even circled the areas with the extensions. There isn’t anything actually wrong with extensions and a professional at the top of their game is going to ensure they aren’t noticeable (although there is a photo online where the track is visible). It caused huge online debate at the time. For some unknown reason some people were in denial about it and even offended. But if you want to say she never had, doesn’t have, and will never have extensions - go right ahead but be perhaps don’t expect others to nod in agreement.

queenofarles · 12/01/2023 19:32

I think she had Baby botox and maybe a bit of hyaluronic fillers,
but not extensions, her hair looks healthy and doesn't have the weird limp hair effect of extensions

Auntiekrisitsme · 12/01/2023 19:34

People who say ‘no way‘ does she have extensions probably also believe she’d never get Botox / Filler because it’s only for TOWIE types, not Princess Kate.

She’s 100% had both and looks amazing and I’d very much like to know who does it!

ProseccoOnIce · 12/01/2023 19:57

I was hoping for some real gossip!

Can we have less discussion about the Irish education system?!

Wishing I had some amazing facts to contribute Grin

Very expensive extensions curl and bounce beautifully - particularly when blended with naturally thick, well maintained (think lots of Olaplex) hair.

The lank type you are thinking of is generally dark course hair that has been dyed blonde and looks great when first done but becomes frizzy and lank v quickly.

Pottyaboutplants · 12/01/2023 21:02

Get ready for this one - she has lash extensions too!

<faints with shock and horror>

Funnily enough when I zoom in on that photo there are two tiny little pinch points that look like the teeny tiny bonds that I have in the very fine strands I have on the side of my head.

Couldnt swear to it but v similar to mine and no one has ever clocked I have (eye wateringly ££) extensions. Except my DH - you can never hide that from someone who might have their fingers in your hair even if the teeny bonds aren’t visible.

Has anyone actually met Kate, Pippa or the Middletons?

Maybe that’s it, I’ve not seen very expensive ones. I’ve never seen extensions that look that natural. The girls on love island and Towie etc always have obvious fake looking hair.

monsteramunch · 12/01/2023 22:05

I think that's the thing though @Pearsandclocks you might have seen a fair few people with really natural extensions but not realised because they're so well done Smile

IRL I think you would be like my SIL. An insufferable snob who could (but to be fair I have never thankfully heard her say) she is UMC - but only in the so called ‘definition’ - uni Ed, professional parents etc. The reality is she is an insufferable snob who has a limited friend network as she’s unbearable IRL.

FWIW Malahide and Howth are beautiful areas in Dublin and just as nice (imo nicer) than Dalkey/Dublin and a desirable location for many wealthy people (which is how the co versa toon started).

For the person comparing Irish language schools to private schools, again this is only in Dublin. Outside of Dublin they struggle to fill the places in Irish schools. The main reason they are popular in Dublin is due to ‘white flight’. There are fewer children of different nationalities in Irish schools which is seen as a positive thing for some parents. Take from that what you will.

Totally agree. An insufferable snob. There is a very specific type of person who describes themselves as ‘upper middle class’. Give me a break.

HilarysMantelpiece · 12/01/2023 22:59

I have lurked on this thread since yesterday.
I came for the Middleton gossip .....but stayed for the parallel discussion of Irish social class demarcations and the education system 😁😁 😁😁😁😁 😁😁

Iamthewombat · 12/01/2023 15:13

Nope, a PP said that the state pays all the teachers, irrespective of whether the school is state or private, and that the private schools spend the fees on extra teachers to bring down the staff to pupil ratio.

Why would any school do this unless they thought that it would improve exam results? That’s what the parents are paying for: improved exam results in exchange for fees. Not Irish language lessons. You’re not seriously suggesting that private schools in Ireland exist solely to teach the Irish language, are you?

No certain schools in Ireland teach through the Irish medium. All subjects are thought through the Irish language. These are state schools not private.

upinaballoon · 12/01/2023 23:23

I never looked on this thread until now but I wondered if anyone had met the Middletons. I only looked on this page so far and I was very interested to see that what she was wearing today wasn't black on black, which I thought it was from the TV, but a navy and green check coat. Thank you for the photo near the top of this page.
I still don't know if anyone's met the Middletons but I've found out that you can get eyelash extensions. Not just stick-on false eyelashes, but extensions. Hey.

upinaballoon · 12/01/2023 23:35

Cariadz · 12/01/2023 03:23

There are press pictures of Kate looking the worse for wear after a night out.

Yes, definitely. Before they were engaged they broke up for a while and I think it was at that time that there was a photo of her looking 'the worse for wear', as @Cariadz says, clubbing with girlfriends I think.

Oh dear. You don’t even understand your own argument. Stick to kissing the hen of the ermine robes.

JenniferBarkley · 13/01/2023 00:26

Loving the parallel thread on the Irish education and class systems. Grin

As others have said, private schools are largely state funded and the fees are used to add extra teachers and facilities. Private education isn't really a thing in most of the country as the state schools are excellent. Private secondary schools are concentrated in South County Dublin where private education is pretty typical. I went to one of the cheaper ones,I think fees are currently about €3k per annum, so much more within reach of the typical family than in the UK.

I've never heard an Irish person refer to themselves or anyone else as upper middle class. The class system does of course exist as in all countries, but the labels and signifiers aren't the same as the UK. It would be easier to change social class than in the UK as well - no one would consider my mum anything other than middle class these days but her childhood was very far removed from that.

Kateforqueen · 13/01/2023 00:30

@JenniferBarkley can you please explain the Irish medium schools please? They are similar to private but free is the jist I'm getting?

JenniferBarkley · 13/01/2023 00:56

They teach entirely through Irish and are state funded. You used to get extra points for university applications if you sat your exams through Irish which was an incentive. Not sure if that's still the case, presume so.

They tend to have very middle class demographics with educated parents etc, definitely attract a certain type. I think they may also be non religious in ethos which is unusual (very much open to correction here). The vast majority of schools are Catholic, with some CoI (often private) and a growing number of Educate Together non denominational schools at primary level (moving into secondary now), so for many parents in the modern era who didn't want a religious ethos, the gaelscoileanna (Irish medium schools) provide an option.

This has the knock-on effect of a trend among middle class parents to give their DC Irish names, often unusual ones or with very complex spellings for non Irish speakers. It's become a class marker.

I've lived in NI since I left college though, so my info may be out of date. Very much open to correction by those on the ground.
