Prince Harry - sounds articulate and quite intelligent

There seems to be an accepted view that Prince Harry is very dim and unintelligent but he seems to be to be really quite articulate and have a wide vocabulary (antagonist, complicit.) I've thought this before when he made a speech at the Invictus games but assumed it was written for him and he was reading it but the answers to the questions in the interview couldn't all possibly have been learnt,

I think In comparison to many people he is articulate with wide vocabulary. But in comparison to most others he does not. I think a lot of folks get fooled by a posh accent and a couple of not very big words.

what struck me is he’s convinced himself of a narrative and is sticking with it, even when he blatantly lied Ie saying he had lived a life of service since leaving the uk. There are lots of examples where he lied outright, twisted the truth, gaslighted, misled, and omitted parts, but it was clear he’s sticking to his story no matter what.

daemonologie · 09/01/2023 07:11

He has completely lost his marbles. Not a bright lad by any stretch. Hope the palace ignores him now and stops inviting him to events. Bet his military buddies will drop him.

MissMarpleRocks · 09/01/2023 07:11

I thought he came across as a bit of a bully if I’m honest. Gaslighting as a pp said.

We all heard the OW interview & what you & your wife said Harry. At least own your mistakes. But no.

ShimmeringShirts · 09/01/2023 07:12

Given all of his extremely poor decision making up to this point no, I don’t think he’s very intelligent at all. My 11 yo DS has a wide ranging vocabulary and can use big fancy words in the correct context, he’s still just an 11yo boy who also makes some pretty silly decisions because he’s not got the intelligence yet to do so otherwise. Harry comes across no different to him.

Treetrim · 09/01/2023 07:13

I have no opinion as to how bright he is. However I do think that he is rash and acts on emotion. His interview was full of therapy speak and not at all thoughtful - an example is balmoral. He keeps banging on about it when so few people were asked to be at the queens deathbed. He makes no reference to how his father might have felt. It’s all me me me , my wife etc etc

I have no doubt he was badly treated but his lack of thought around other people is striking and not the sign of a reflective man

There was nothing offensive in what she said.

racists — how? The event was to showcase a charity for women of African heritage. Even on lookers said she wasn’t offensive.

At this point Tom Bradby should have jumped in and asked why the didn’t publicly say this if they were so concerned about the press mauling he said she was receiving. (And he was wrong on that, it was social media that came for her in the end)

Charley50 · 09/01/2023 07:28

I only watched 15 minutes of it. In those 15 minutes he was so waffley and vague and had to get detail of one of his court cases from the interviewer, as he didn't know. So many words, so little self-awareness.

It will be interesting to see whether the Anderson Cooper interview is more incisive. He's acknowledged as being good at follow-up questions, and as a multi-award winning journalist of many years he's clearly very good at what he does.

The sit-down with Tom Bradby wasn't an interview - more of a facilitated talk, where Harry had the opportunity to present his chosen points. I hope the interview with AC involves some challenge.

Patertater · 09/01/2023 07:36

Harry sounds normal and fine. Sure, he's no Einstein and didn't attend university, but he's no Prince Andrew, either.

Smartstuffed · 09/01/2023 07:50

I didn't see or hear emotional intelligence. He's a one-trick pony regurgitating stuff from years ago, incapable of moving on or forward. His 'story' is the only thing he has to sell and that will have a sell-by date.

If he's had therapy it hasn't helped and I doubt it ever will. He doesn't understand how life works and pays lip service only to personal responsibility.

Florissant · 09/01/2023 07:52

He may sound articulate but he is far from intelligent: his Art tutor at Eton wrote his A-level course work and he got a D in Geography.

MontageOfHeck · 09/01/2023 07:54

I thought he seemed largely articulate, but certainly towards the end, when asked questions, he quickly shut them down, and I wondered if this was down to an inability to articulate himself without his coached narrative.

Which other PM in history has been commonly known by their first name?

Maggie

NewYearNewCareer · 09/01/2023 07:57

I was a bit confused 🫤 when he said William attacked him - and he did nothing - isn’t he a trained fighter?

ReluctantCourier · 09/01/2023 07:59

Why would it matter? Are only ‘intelligent’ people allowed to express their opinions? Not a rhetorical thread I think anyone really wants pulled, is it?

snapdragon12 · 09/01/2023 08:00

even if every word he spoke was truth, it's still despicable to speak it in this way. I'm sure William has his truth and I'm sure Camilla and Charles have their truths. I bet Kate has her truth too. Families fall out. They don't blab to the press about it.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 09/01/2023 08:02

Thick as shit and twice as sticky

But it’s only his & his wife’s truth that counts. And their privacy. Not anyone else’s.

To be honest I don’t think even Harry knows what his truth is.

It always used to amaze me when in court I’d see different witnesses for the same event & most saw things differently. But like here. Humans are fallible.

Just because it’s your truth doesn’t actually make it the truth.

arghtriffid · 09/01/2023 08:08

Why does he sound like Gordon Ramsey? Did Ramsey go to Eton too?

BorderlineBagpuss · 09/01/2023 08:11

There are plenty of braying poshos who give the impression of intelligence with a wider than thou vocabulary. And he speaks with conviction, which helps. But he seems to lack intelligence to me. I know someone who was at Eton with him and he was famously as thick as two short planks. Poor bloke.

OhMonDieux · 09/01/2023 08:12

I only listened to the trailer and no, I don't think he is articulate or especially bright. It was a sentence including something about 'the truth' . DH and I looked at each other and said 'what does that mean'? It sounded 'clever' but actually had no logic or substance to it.

The words he spoke could, in many instances, be pulled apart as meaningless.

It's a style that some people who have with an RP accent have, including many politicians. They spout stuff that appears to be articulate, yet when you look into the logic of it, there isn't any.

I feel very sorry for him. He's so mixed up and confused that it's just cringe-making.

He lacks any emotional intelligence. The fact he wants 'reconciliation' yet thinks Charles and William have to move towards him, when he's criticised them openly, and knows they can't respond publicly, is mind-boggling.

The fact is that no one (other than his family) really cares about him and Meghan. Why he thinks his feelings warrant all this attention is just unbelievable.
It's the behaviour of an adolescent.

I just hope he can get help as the help he's had isn't working. He's a complete embarrassment.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 09/01/2023 08:18

He's thick, that comes across. He's also a liar, unfortunately for Harry to be a good liar, you have to have a good memory. He does not which is why the palace was correct in saying 'Recollections may vary'. He's also trying to blame the media and unfortunately again for him, he's backtracked or contradicted himself too much. There's so many holes in his stories.

Orangefir · 09/01/2023 08:20
  • These answers were scripted to pre set questions. Key phrases will be rehearsed
  • He had extensive media training to be able to conduct these interviews. The scripted answers will have been written with his comms team. Great care and effort will have been taken to choose particular words to have the biggest impact.
  • His team are aware that many including his family think he is unwell. Therefore, great effort will have been taken to make sure he looks competent.
  • evidence of the scipted nature of his responses is the almost word for word repetition between the itv interview and cnn interview when describing the day of his mothers funeral.

As such, it does not reveal any semblance of intelligence. Just the results of a slick PR machine

KatherineJaneway · 09/01/2023 08:21

He might sound it, and should after the money spent on his education, but his actions tell a different story.

BellePeppa · 09/01/2023 08:22

I didn’t watch it but saw a snippet this morning on a news channel. Urgh he’s insufferable. His deflecting really boils my p*ss as my ex used to do the same thing, I can see it a mile off. He’s a master at turning it back to you. Thirty seconds was enough, I feel grubby.
