Harry's ghost writer

I can't find his name to look him up but I saw it yesterday. I heard this person is 'award winning'. But some of the things like 'mounted her like a stallion' are unbelievably crude. Does anyone know who he is & what awards he's won? If this style of writing turns out to be true then Harry has been sold well-short, even if the details are cringey.

Apparently the ghost writer liked a comment that described the extracts / Harry as being ‘me, me, me’ - maybe he’s already trying to distance himself from it ?

Coronateachingagain · 08/01/2023 12:54

Well that's the translation from Spanish, let's see how it reads in English.

The writer is the same that wrote the Andre Agassi book. Can't remember his name but he is high regarded. And I thought the Agassi book was brilliant and reflecting insight and self examination.

Ramensoooop · 08/01/2023 12:56

Yes but a ghost writer can only do so much with a subject. His other subject was prob self reflective and insightful hence that came across. What’s come across in Harry’s extracts … not v self reflective !

OttersMayHaveShiftedInTransit · 08/01/2023 12:56

Surely he is just quoting verbatim what Harry told him?

Ramensoooop · 08/01/2023 12:57

Yes probably - not exactly easy to make the pub field stallion story dignified and reflective

StarInTheHeavens · 08/01/2023 12:58

JR Moehringer, I'm going to look him up now

I want him to write 'the book behind the book'. I imagine it would be jaw-dropping.

Maybe that had more to do with Agassi than Moehringer.

Ramensoooop · 08/01/2023 13:01

Yes I wonder how he got him to reveal so much !

StarInTheHeavens · 08/01/2023 13:01

He won the Pulitzer prize once for newspaper writing, that might explain something

I believe his name is Banquo. 😆

Coronateachingagain · 08/01/2023 13:02

Maybe it was in the book contract. Things you need to write about. "Your first experience", x number of quarrels with you close of kin, etc etc

Bluebelleggs · 08/01/2023 13:03

Well… if the aim of a ghost written autobiography is to give you an insight into the person who’s autobiography it is…

MilkshakesBringAllTheCoosToTheYard · 08/01/2023 13:03

There's a really interesting ghostwriter AMA thread going on just now. It's not the ghost's primary job to make the subject 'look good' - their role is to reflect the subject's voice and story. It should sound like the subject, but with decent grammar and structure.

The ghost might also help the subject find the 'thread' through - particularly with older subjects where there's a lot of stories to tell, they might find some sort of narrative framing device.

But a successful ghost should be invisible. It's the subject's word choice, speech pattern, etc.

StarInTheHeavens · 08/01/2023 13:03

I just heard George Clooney wrote the introduction. He might regret that. Dunno if it's true though.

OP posts:
Ramensoooop · 08/01/2023 13:04

then I’d wonder how his lawyers let him sign a contract like that !

amyneedssleep · 08/01/2023 13:04

Fact check: before people start discussing the 'liked tweet', please note that Moehringer at some point unliked it.

StarInTheHeavens · 08/01/2023 13:05

That's really interesting @MilkshakesBringAllTheCoosToTheYard I thought it was to polish the narrative not reflect the real voice so this is interesting.

I'm sure the resident author aka the fountain -of -all -knowledge will be along to enlighten all the non-literary types. Mind you, mask slipped a bit last night 😆

StarInTheHeavens · 08/01/2023 13:08

With good guidance, this could've been such a different book & something that really elevated him.

FanniesFlaps · 08/01/2023 13:10

Didn’t the author “split up” with his client and didn’t finish the book?

A lot of it comes across as very flowery word salad imo. Who else do we know who speaks and writes like that…….? 🤔

Happyvalleyfan · 08/01/2023 13:11

Don’t you think it would be wise to read the book rather than salacious extracts?
Perhaps some self reflection of your own posts would be a good idea?

StarInTheHeavens · 08/01/2023 13:12
This video has some detail and suggests that H&M fired the ghost writer. I guess the truth will be told in the long run.

The Agassi book was good - but perhaps that was because of Andre himself!
