There were loads in Carrefour this morning. It is called Le Suppléant in French.

TangledWebOfDeception · 11/01/2023 18:16

If it were something of actual importance, or of direct relevance to me in some way, I might need to examine his versions of the many, many apparently unedifying stories for myself. As it is, I don’t care and I’m not paying any actual attention to agenda - his, or the media’s, or the RF’s. It’s a circus, and I’m not interested. The extracts from the leaked Spanish/translated version were funny, that’s all. The book itself, nah. There is nothing of value in it for me, I know that already.

daisychain01 · 11/01/2023 18:19

No thanks.

I have better things to spend my money on. I've seen what I need in the press and it sounds like one big delusional whingefest- yawn.

smileladiesplease · 11/01/2023 18:21

Nope. B in charity shops soon anyway. Boring whinger

daisychain01 · 11/01/2023 18:25

The Spanish title for Spare is "En La Sombra" or In the Shadows which sounds even more tragic!

I didn't realise it was released in Spain by accident then had to be withdrawn.

oh dear, even that was a cock up, pooooooor Harold.

TheKeatingFive · 11/01/2023 18:27

I read a bit in a bookshop. It was about the press treatment of a previous girlfriend, one who never even made it into the public eye. It was horrifying really, I felt so sorry for both of them.

I don't know if I'll read more, but I agree that the way in which the press are reporting extracts is not reflective of the tone of the book at all, which I found quite affecting

What a surprise 🤷‍♀️

Fundays12 · 11/01/2023 18:30

No I cringe for him everytime I read about some of the comments in the book. I am not a fan of the RF but he needs to learn some self respect and dignity.

TangledWebOfDeception · 11/01/2023 18:32

And some integrity too.

DillDanding · 11/01/2023 18:36

The actual book is wildly different from what’s been reported in the press.

It’s very well written, the salacious stuff is pretty non-existent and (I’m listening to audio version), he reads it beautifully. I just winced my way through Susannah Constantine’s inability to read her own words, so it’s a blessed relief.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 11/01/2023 18:37

I'm reading it and really enjoying it. I was worried I'd be bored after the press printed so many excerpts but when you read the actual book you realise that what's been leaked has been edited or printed out of context.

It's so very interesting how he has been thrown under the bus by the palace so many times and it started when he was still at Eton.

I really feel for him and I'm only a third of the way through. He has had a really interesting life but also such a tragic one. I hadn't realised that he also lost his best friend to a car accident when he was young. That must have been tough to deal with after what happens to Diana.

I really hope he and Meghan can live a happy life together in the US and be free to do work on their various projects in safety.

Notellinganyone · 11/01/2023 18:40

No.

fluffi · 11/01/2023 18:42

No. He shouldn’t be profiting from selling such personal details about his family’s lives. Not watching NetFlix whingefest for same reason, don’t want to encourage.

AaandAway · 11/01/2023 18:42

I will never forgive the BBC for broadcasting the audio clip of Harry describing the loss of his virginity during the lunchtime news bulletin on Tuesday. During lunch, ffs. No wonder Nicholas Witchell was given the day off.

Createausername1970 · 11/01/2023 18:50

Have been a Mumsnet lurker for ages, never thought this was the topic to get me to post.
I was going to buy the book. I had a lot of sympathy for him when they first announced they were leaving. Less so over recent months, but I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
But I am at a loss to understand his comments about his memory being poor, but his recollections have as much truth in them as so-called objective facts.
WTF?
To me he is saying "my memory is fucked, too much weed, no clue if what I am remembering actually happened or not, but don't let that bother you".
It does bother me.
I am not clear now what I am going to be paying for. All autobiographies are written from the author's perspective, I accept that. But I expect them to be basically factual, not flights of fancy.
I do wonder if this statement about his memory will be used as a legal get-out further down the line if he needs to back track.
So, will I buy it? On balance... I don't think I will anymore.

I'm listening to the audio version too and agree with everything you said. I am surprised I'm enjoying it given what I had read in the tabloids about it.

I'll give Susannah's audio book a swerve though, thanks for the heads up 😂

It’s a bore fest, and she’s far posher, spoiled and unrelatable than Harry. The only interesting bit is Princess Margaret chopping up her giant shit with a cake slice.

I wish people would STOP commenting on Harry’s book unless they’ve read or started to read the bloody thing.

Caitlin Moran sums it up on Twitter -

My timeline is absolutely split between those who've read the press coverage of "Spare" and think Harry's a twat, and those who have actually read the book, or are reading it, and are going "Fair enough - I get him now."

TheKeatingFive · 11/01/2023 19:10

I was trying to find Caitlin's tweet to post it. It's so true.

No. I haven’t watched the Netflix programme or any other interview. I don’t watch any royal nonsense. I’m a republican and am not interested in the foolishness of multi millionaires when we have a failing NHS due to the Tories, foodbanks, schools underfunded, people’s rights being stripped away, an economy devastated by brexit - do I need to go on?

No, not at all.
This section is headed 'royal family'. If you're not interested go back and wallow in life's miseries. We need a bit of silly frivolity in our lives 🤣

MissWings · 11/01/2023 19:37

Yes. I’ll enjoy reading it. I’ve always liked Harry.

OneFrenchEgg · 11/01/2023 20:10

I am a bit disappointed in how bitchy he is in places.
