Christmas card for the Prince and Princess of Wales.
Perfectly nice card, but not very Christmassy.
Does anyone know where it was taken?

It's lovely isn't it, very informal.

They don't tend to do festive themed shots, wasn’t last year's on holiday somewhere hot?

antelopevalley · 14/12/2022 14:49

True, I had forgotten the last one was taken in Jordan during the summer.

I have found an article that says it was taken on the Sandringham Estate.

The flint wall would make me think East Anglia, so I’m glad to be proved right!

SheWoreYellow · 14/12/2022 14:52

I think it’s sensitively unflashy. If it was in a palace by a massive tree or on holiday then that would piss people off.

TheWomanTheyCallJayne · 14/12/2022 14:53

It’s definitely Sandringham.

TottersBlankly · 14/12/2022 15:01

At this time of year I always wish I was clever enough to comprehend the Christmassy-ness of these royal cards. I mean …

🤷🏽‍♀️

Rowthe · 14/12/2022 15:13

They dont usually do festive cards.

antelopevalley · 14/12/2022 15:17

@TottersBlankly I don't understand it either. But maybe this is what the aristocracy does and the fact we sent out robin Christmas cards just shows that I am working class? I don't know.

@antelopevalley robins?! So gauche 😂

Bri5 · 14/12/2022 15:51

I think it’s a great family card. Are they more common in America? I get cards from my family and friends that have family pictures from the year on them. This year we went to Disney so we used a photo of us in front of the tree of life. Our card says merry Christmas but most say happy holidays or seasons greetings.

Samcro · 14/12/2022 15:52

nice card but not "Christmassy"

Think you're right. It's us plebs that share photos of everyone in matching festive pjs including the dog. Posh people seem to do anything but Christmassy.

TokyoSushi · 14/12/2022 16:00

Nice enough picture, but must also be a pleb as the very opposite of what I would consider to be a Christmas card photo!

yes, this style of card is popular in the USA.

antelopevalley · 14/12/2022 16:09

I know the politicians tend to do non-Christmassy cards as well.

It’s just a shame that William isn’t looking at the camera, even though everyone else is! Wonder what he’s spotted off to the side?

wordler · 14/12/2022 16:49

I think these cards are the public facing cards sent to their charities and people they've met but who aren't on their personal Christmas card list. They probably send regular bought Christmassy ones to everyone else.

I'm in America now and most people make cards - just single flat ones that don't stand up - with a picture of their family either in the summer or together at Thanksgiving so more autumnal. I always buy extra 'normal' Christmas cards for the UK relatives and stick the flat photo thing inside.

DewinDwl · 14/12/2022 18:36

Lovely photo. It's good to see the kids wearing normal, 21st century clothes. Kate's top doesn't scream "casual walk with the family" to me but I guess these kinds of official photos are unavoidably contrived.

ArnoldBee · 14/12/2022 18:41

It's basically here have a good view of the kids so stop hiding behind a Bush to get a picture!

toomuchlaundry · 14/12/2022 18:46

Do you have to pick holes in everything W&K do @antelopevalley?

Would you rather a naff one with everyone posing in match Christmas pjs? What would a family Christmas card look like in your world? Fake snow, panto costumes, posing with Father Christmas?

onlylarkin · 14/12/2022 18:47

Did they include a one or two page typed letter telling everyone about thier year? Because that is an (annoying) American thing to do. Because I need to know about my husband's coworkers family despite the fact that they live in another state and I have never met them and frankly could not give a shit. 🙄😂

This is a lovely card. The kids are growing up quickly, Catherine looks lovely and I love her top.

toomuchlaundry · 14/12/2022 18:51

@antelopevalley shock horror H&M used a photo from their wedding for their Christmas card for the year of their wedding, but I bet you loved that one

greenhousegal · 14/12/2022 18:59

Is it just me or does W's smile always seem only to extend to his upper lip and is grimace like.

Just me so.....
