Earthshot Prize Flies in William, Kate, Becks and Celebrities but Winners Zoom In From Home

You can't make this up!

Viewers at home were left unimpressed that the event saw presenters and attendees fly to the East coast city to attend the ceremony, particularly given its sustainability message, while recipients stayed at home to receive their awards virtually.

So the Earshot prize had a glitzy gala in Boston to which its patrons were invited, and lots of celebrities flew in for it but ...

None of the 15 finalists or the 5 winners were flown in to take their moment on the stage.

Instead, the 5 finalists Zoomed in from home.

Apparently to save the planet.

The hypocrisy is staggering.

Surely you use celebs for this sort of thing so you get the publicity, the TV show, the huge prize etc? So you need them there. You could say why was it in the US but I suspect that's where the money is? Or influence?

It was in the UK last year and they had the same deal - all finalists remote and gathered in their home country with big teams.

It’s going to be in a different country I think for each of the ten years it’s scheduled to take place.

I think they started with the USA after the UK launch to maximize exposure to some of the big investors.

They haven’t announced where they will be next year yet but there was speculation about Brazil.

But each team had 20 people in it so 20 x 3 nominees x 5 categories. That’s hundreds of people. The 5 winners did a lovely price to camera too and showed their invention fully.

It is very usual to invite two recipients to represent in other awards. Some teams who receive an award are much larger than 20 people.
They could even have just flown over the winners. So a total 10 people.

The celebs were only there so they had an audience for the show and a bit of publicity. They obviously think William and Kate won't get enough publicity on their own.

Utter nit picking nonsense.I actually thought it made huge sense as each initiative involved teams to zoom into them where they were.It was especially lovely to see the indigenous women's group in a big crowd on one of the actual beaches. And the women in Africa with the cooking stoves. They all looked thrilled. Why fly everyone in ?Surely what they care about more is getting nominated in the first place, showcasing what they do and for the winners getting a big wodge of money to take things forward.

It’s not 5 people , it’s 5 organisations so potentially about 100 people !

5 people representing five organisations!

Good point!
