The royal family

Meghan has been named one of 25 most influential women by FT

"Meghan Markle has become a symbol of resilience for many silenced women. Specifically speaking, for women of colour and, even more specifically, mixed-race and black women. Her experience within the royal family resonated with those who have had to navigate historically white, elitist institutions that are, at best, not built with them in mind and, at worst, outwardly hostile.

The royal family is an establishment largely maintained through silence and complicity. It’s this, in part, that makes Meghan’s choice to use her voice so powerful. This year she launched a podcast, Archetypes, where she interrogates the labels used to contain and inhibit women – fitting, given the projection and smears she has endured from the press. For the black community in particular, it was hard to watch her demonisation by the British media and public. But seeing her come into her own, and use her platform to speak about what matters to her, has sent a message even louder than she may have intended."

MM told Oprah that Harry was the one who told her, WHILE SHE WAS PREGNANT, that there had been a previous discussion, and a discussion that happened years previously, about the colour of their baby's skin.

What kind of a caring loving husband would do that to their pregnant wife, especially that she was already struggling with her mental health, knowing that there was a racist element of the british media gunning for her, really, he is an utter dipstick.

Maybe HE was the one worrying about the colour of their babies skin, I mean, he does have form.

GlassDeli · 03/12/2022 10:20

I think it is interesting that there are so many posters who say they detest her but can't stop talking about her.

So you can only talk about people you like?

garlicandsapphires · 03/12/2022 11:06

I am not a fan of either of them, I find them both quite irritating actually!!
But I can’t STAND the way she is villified - and it makes me want to defend her.
I really don’t get the criticism towards the ‘dancing in the streets’ comment. At the time her wedding to Harry was seen by all as a pretty major and positive shift for the RF.
The poor woman. She cannot possibly do right - and I do wonder why she’s become such a lightening rod of criticism.

That LBD clip was good.

Ohnonevermind · 03/12/2022 11:20

@garlicandsapphires

if you can’t understand the grandiosity of her saying that people danced in the streets like they did when Mandela was released especially when it’s a figment of her imagination, what next, the queen asked her to take over

perhaps if she stuck to the truth she might not get such a hard time from posters

Roussette · 03/12/2022 11:23

Ohnonevermind · 03/12/2022 07:26

@Roussette

you agreed with a poster who said that Kate was ‘lazy’ and ‘doing the bare minimum’ and said it was a great post so we will have to disagree as you clearly don’t mind sticking the vitriolic boot into some people,

The comments on Netflix weren’t racist, they were laughing at someone whose grandiose self importance has left them open to ridicule. They’re a farcical pair.

Whatever

I don't call someone a cockroach and the rest of a very very very nasty post

@custardbear I’ve reported your post-that was disgusting language about another human being; whatever the reason.

Jenny3412 · 03/12/2022 12:27

It’s very possible people discussed what the baby may look like. It’s also possible that a benign comments everyone makes could have been weaponised and twisted also. All poseible

Octopusmittens · 03/12/2022 12:28

What a farce

Ok - but MM has lied on television, across the world, she's trying to destroy a family, it clear she's destroyed her own, with only 1 family member going to her own wedding. Not only that she's making money out of it and using them to try to elevate herself! I didn't use bad language or swearing, I just feel she's an appalling human being - and it seems that every time something comes out in the press re the RF she H&M follow suit.
I really don't know why I have to explain myself but her behaviours are a disgrace!

OK, so that's one comment which was actually what someone else said to her. And it wasn't suggesting she was on a par with Nelson Mandela for goodness sake! There was a lot of excitement about a biracial woman marrying into the RF, a lot of talk about Meghan being a 'breath of fresh air' and other hackneyed phrases, alongside the little digs about her exotic DNA and being 'almost straight out of Compton', and the BBC presenter posting a picture of a couple with a monkey just after Archie was born. And we've also found out the royal rota were calling him 'frogspawn' in thr run-up to his birth.

The point being that she was going through a very difficult time and this was a lovely, warm comment that someone made when she was at a low ebb. That's it. Sure it was probably a bit foolish for her to share it, but it's not grandiose to point out that people were excited about the marriage that in SA would have been illegal not so long ago. So yes, it's a great symbol of progress if you put it in a context like that, and people do love a royal wedding. 🤷‍♀️

custardbear · 03/12/2022 13:01

What does it mean when someone reposts your comment @Aspiringmatriarch ? Is that an agreement with me?

Roussette · 03/12/2022 13:01

God knows why Ive had a post deleted. I very carefully never insult anyone. Yet you can call another female a narcissistic cockroach and that's ok WTF

Never mind it's the first time I've had an unexplained post deleted in almost 18 years. Perplexing

I didn't report it. I don't think you should have it deleted tbh. But no, it's not agreement.

Ohnonevermind · 03/12/2022 13:32

@Aspiringmatriarch

That comment is what she alleges someone said to her. You can believe someone made that insanely stupid comment, but looking at the hard evidence I choose not to believe her

by saying it on a podcast she displayed her grandiose traits. It was such a stupid thing to say.

Jenny3412 · 03/12/2022 13:44

Yeah because she herself comes from such a healthy functional family x

Ohnonevermind · 03/12/2022 13:45

@Aspiringmatriarch

i disagree with you. in her mind she is very special. She was sharing how special the South Africans think she she

it could have been removed during the edit , I’m sure the tack checker wanted to 🤯 but she clearly wanted to keep it in

It was an interview, not a podcast. I doubt it was fabricated but obviously you're free to disagree. Anyway I call bullshit on the 'grandiose traits', if she was that bad she wouldn't have had a successful career as a 'third rate' actress on a cable TV show - as people like to point out, she was hardly A list and would have been given pretty short shrift. You sound like you've been watching too many YouTube videos tbh.

DewinDwl · 03/12/2022 13:55

Jenny3412 · 03/12/2022 13:44

... MM and PH's family backgrounds are not that different actually... parents divorced, blended family, tensions with siblings, fathers that have embarrassed themselves with the press etc.

on the other hand MM does seem to have a very stable loving figure with her mum and of course PH lost his in horrific circumstances.

From here his family seem way more dysfunctional TBH. But I don't think people should be judged on their family background.

Ohnonevermind · 03/12/2022 13:56

@Aspiringmatriarch

There are plenty of people displaying narcissistic traits in Hollywood, it’s probably an advantage there 😀😀😀

the reason she didn’t get work in Hollywood and had to do cable in Canada is because she’s a poor actress not because of any narc traits

why don’t you google before posting, as you clearly have no understanding of the condition

Aspiringmatriarch · 03/12/2022 14:17

why don’t you google before posting, as you clearly have no understanding of the condition

And this is why every other keyboard warrior thinks they can diagnose people they've never met. 🙄

Displaying narcissistic traits is not pathological in itself. Healthy self-regard is not a bad thing. And you're still wrong if you think someone who (you believe, I assume based on your Masters in Googling) is compulsively dishonest, grandiose and manipulative would have a long history of being apparently unproblematic and likeable.

Ohnonevermind · 03/12/2022 14:21

I pointed out she displayed the traits but said only professional can diagnose the conditions. Why don’t you read posters before launching into an ambarrassing diatribe

As you seem to lack even the most basic understanding, I thought google could help, but I suppose you can bring a horse to water but can’t make it drink.
