Who is behind the camera taking pictures of Meghan crying?

@EscapeTheCastle thank you so much for this - I haven't laughed so much in ages Grin Not sure it's quite what Netflix or H&M were hoping for, but given all the crap in the world we need a good giggle and they've certainly provided that!

Comments on the trailer here

Blip · 02/12/2022 09:00

@EscapeTheCastle
"If you watch the trailer on You Tube and choose the official Netflix channel the comments underneath are pure comedy gold."

Thanks I just did this - brilliant!

For me their love story is very low stakes comedy which is why I will give it a go to watch.

Hope it's better than the podcasts which I'd had more than enough of within 5 minutes.

I'm hoping for another Spinal Tap

I can actually see the scene with Harry trying to make the sandwich in my head

BoffinMum · 02/12/2022 09:00

It reminded me of when Jamie Oliver's wife made a point for crying for the documentary cameras.

milti · 02/12/2022 09:01

She declined Husseys help - she had her own team in USA and a team here - although many didn’t last long

Whilst the trailer will have been timed to coincide with William and Kate’s visit, the timing of recent racist comments from the Palace is what promoters dreams are made of.

Agreed.

Is it arguable that H&M are endlessly whinging on about the 'awful (racist) royals' & should simply get on with their lives as they chose to leave ? YES.

Is it arguable that the Royals are really awful (& endemically racist to boot) & that is why H&M felt they had no choice but to leave (thus he gives up 'birthright') so hence are somewhat bitter & taking all chances to swipe at RF ? YES.

It looks like Meghan never came to terms with the fact that Kate is the wife of a future King and always ahead of her in the pecking order. And she cannot do anything to change that. No Netflix or keep banging about a bridesmaids stockings will change that. Fact

She thought ‘fame’ would trump succession.

Tulipomania · 02/12/2022 09:05

Interestingly Susan Hussey pops up in the episode of the Crown which deals with Diana's interview with Martin Bashir.

H&M did t produce the trailer though did they? The insertion of Kates pic isn't down to them.

Wouldn’t they have to approve it, though? Genuine question. H&M must have viewed the trailer, mustn’t they?

username8888 · 02/12/2022 09:09

Hopefully this documentary is the nail in the coffin for the titles which are just merching tactics. If not the book will do it

Purplepeopleeaterz · 02/12/2022 09:09

I follow a Netflix account on FB & many people from the US are less than impressed and are hoping they return the UK!

BoffinMum · 02/12/2022 09:09

I think the real issue here is that so many people are or have been truly miserable and this kind of film is not going to make things any better.

Agree.

Further upthread there is a comment from a pp who is (iirc) a producer at Netflix and they say they don't get to influence/approve the trailers.

Newwardrobe · 02/12/2022 09:14

Looking at the comments on the Netflix trailer, this may not have the effect H and M were hoping for.

LivingOnAnIsland · 02/12/2022 09:14

I can't bear attention seeking, and this just makes me despise them more and more.

Serenster · 02/12/2022 09:14

The hate towards her from the media is unreal

I wouldn’t call it media hate, personally (although that word is thrown around so often it’s kind of ceased to have meaning) but yes, I agree that Meghan had a rough time in terms of coverage, like mots women who marry into the royal family. It is also true that Meghan and Harry deliberately went to war with the press, which obviously didn’t help. Antagonising the journalists who write about them by getting the press office to deny stories which later turned out to be true, being rude to them on official tours when they were representing the UK, playing a “Gotcha” on them with the announcement of Archie’s birth - how on earth did they think that was going to turn out? I guess it fanned the fire that they would soon afterwards claim they had to run away from, and so to that end it was a useful tactic.

stuntbubbles · 02/12/2022 09:15

What was the “gotcha” with Archie’s birth?

Petitebird · 02/12/2022 09:20

Annie232 · 01/12/2022 13:57

It’s very dramatic. I wonder how much longer they can drag out ‘their truth’ on such a short stint within the firm.

"As long as the money rolls in" is the answer to how long this charade continues.

Strikes me that they are doing what Meghan's family ( father, half sister, half brother ) do to her. They sell stories on her and now she has Harry ( who really has the inside track) selling stories on his family. People mirror as adults what they see in their families as children unless they have the insight to do things differently. Both have had difficult childhoods. Meghan's mum handed her to her dad when she was 11 for him to bring up. Her rejection of him and many (allegedly) along the way to her title and the RF - shows that she rejects completely people who don't give her what she wants/needs. Totally understandable with her background. Harry's parents - both wrote books and gave interviews about their affairs, unhappiness in marriage, cruel treatment in the RF etc. No wonder Harry and Meghan are selling their guts to anyone who will (pay) to listen/watch. They are angry "children" wanting to hit back at the grown ups who have upset them. Pretty sad really.

Serenster · 02/12/2022 09:22

First the Sussexes said that Archie’s birth was an entirely private matter and they would not be releasing any details about it. After this provoked some public criticism, they backed down and said they would make an announcement when the Duchess was in labour and then announce the birth.

In due course, the palace announced Meghan was in labour, and the media all started up their “royal baby watch” cycles. Only for the Sussexes to immediately announce Archie’s birth on their instagram feed. He had in fact been born several hours earlier and they were already back at home when they made the “in labour” announcement.

I thought at the time that this came across as a big two fingers up at the press (and it was in fact the point when I realised I could no longer rationalise all their behaviour positively, as they were clearly not acting in good faith, and being intentionally antagonistic to the press for their own purposes). Later it came out that this whole saga had been because they had an negotiated an exclusive with Gayle King and the US network she worked for, so they were deliberately trying to keep the UK press out.

Coxspurplepippin · 02/12/2022 09:22

'It wouldn’t surprise me if she (Kate) can actually be demanding / unreasonable etc etc herself'

William and Kate's household are said to be (from Courtiers book, I think) the happiest and easiest to work in. Kate knows what a solid, decent, happy family life looks like because she was brought up in one.

For those talking about Harry's childhood and trauma, don't forget William went through exactly the same trauma at barely 2 years older. William also now has to see his brother, with whom he previously appeared to have a very close bond, lashing out, trashing their shared childhood, and appearing to condone his wife's spite against Kate. Harry can't take it but appears to be quite happy to dish it out.

Blip · 02/12/2022 09:23

I'm hoping that for Christmas, H&M give their titles back to the RF.

I agree with this, though I thought Meghan was younger when she went to live with her father. Eleven is quite a critical age. Both of them seem to put their mothers (absent for different reasons) on a pedestal and vilify their fathers.

Yesterday’s drama was a side-show as far as I’m concerned. Of course the BRF is a racist institution. The institution ruled over half the planet at one point, still has a head of the “commonwealth”. Prince Philip - say no more. Much more important conversations are being had by much more knowledgeable people in much more rigourous fora about this, and all hail to them. MM marrying Harry (ha), not having the backbone to make a proper allegation of racism, clinging onto her titles after being victimised, curtsying and kowtowing to the allegedly racist family, flying half way around the planet for the jubilee - she’s a joke. Doesn’t even register in the conversation when it comes to the British royal family and racism.

I don’t pay any more notice to the racists than to the misogynists when it comes to the RF. They all come with the territory. The H&M drama is just tittle tattle between siblings and their spouses, all juicy drama. Every family has their version, just the clothes and houses and jewels are nicer in this one!

Well said. Spot on.

@smilesy
One thing that interests me is, will we see footage of those times when people speculated that they were mic'd up because their clothing appeared lumpy?🤔

I was watching a YouTuber last night and a still from that video was taken inside Buckgham Palace - them walking through the garden entrance room before exiting outside. It will be interesting to see if this was before or after they left the UK. But I don't know why they'd have been filmed in that room whilst they were still living here.
