The Queen died from...in The Times today

In TT today, Dr Porter discusses what is in the latest biography of the Queen (by Giles B.)

Dr P seems to agree with GB that the Queen had bone cancer. He doesn't say so in so many words but he does bullet-point the signs (of which she appears to have had a number.)

I'm a Royalist (with some exceptions, of course) and feel we are being 'cheated' by (perhaps) having the reason for her death being concealed.
She was well loved and admired by millions.
Isn't the least we are owed an honest account?

I am sure everyone could see that she didn't simply die of 'old age' (in so much as anyone in their late 90s does, to a degree.) The pain she was suffering, the weight loss, the circulation problems evident in her calves (varicose ulcers for years) and her hands.

It's as if we are being taken for fools and I wonder how, legally, her dr is allowed to complete the death cert inaccurately?

My late father had 3 conditions listed on his DC, including dementia, but he'd had two other conditions (major organ deterioration) for many years as well.
Considering he was 95, then 'old age' may have covered it but it wasn't just that.

What is the point of the Palace not being honest?

We are owed nothing. She was elderly and she died.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 29/11/2022 19:51

I’m as far from a monarchist as you can get but your whole opening post is distasteful. You’re not cheated. Why should her medical issues be in the public domain? They hide loads of stuff, this isn’t being hidden, it’s just not being mentioned, and rightly so.

MissMarpleRocks · 29/11/2022 19:51

What a vile thread. How does it affect you at all?

Fuuuuuckit · 29/11/2022 19:51

As pp said, many very elderly people die with cancer, not because of it.

My mum died with lung cancer but it is not listed as a cause of death because she died due to something else.

My great uncle had prostate cancer when he died but as it wasn't his cause of death all that is listed is old age and heart failure.

There is no question that the queen's doctor lied, can you imagine the grief if that sort of story hit the press!!!

She was very elderly and likely had several health issues. All - or none - of which could have contributed directly to her death. YABVVU.

MrsMigginsCat · 29/11/2022 19:53

The Queen died. Surely that's all you need to know? She was a very old lady and old ladies die. That's it. You, nor anyone else outside her close family need to know the exact cause of death, even if there was something else going on.

FancyFanny · 29/11/2022 19:48

If she had cancer, it does not necessarily mean she died of it. It may simply have been that her heart failed- which could be why her death was listed as old age.

In which case "heart failure" would have been fine on the death cert.

My Aunt died of heart failure on the evening of her 85th birthday. Earlier that day she had spoken to a number of relatives on the phone (because her birthday), taken delivery of a generous online shop from one of my cousins, drunk a bottle of wine from said shop. It doesn't seem such a bad way to go to me.

It doesn't affect any of us, these goady threads come up all the time.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/11/2022 19:55

I think she did just die if old age. Although she looked very frail in the last photograph, she didn't look like that just three months before at the jubilee.

ferneytorro · 29/11/2022 19:55

Do you demand to see medical details of cause of death for all public servants or is it just the Queen? It's almost as if her cause of death has to be "vetted" by you to make sure it's appropriate for a monarch. Very distasteful.

mintbiscuit · 29/11/2022 19:56

Wow surprised at the overreactions on this.

I’d like to know too. Not because I’m owed anything, but because I’m a nosey cow.

Tansytea · 29/11/2022 20:04

You're not a royalist. You are disrespectful and entitled.
She was 96, get a grip. Also consider that 96 year old may have all manner of things and prefer not to know. And then get another grip.

PriamFarrl · 29/11/2022 20:04

DH and I were discussing his dad the other day. He died 10 years ago and although we know it was cancer we don’t remember what off. It doesn’t matter. The end result is the same.

There is no need for any of us to know what her cause of death was. Even if the doctor had said it was treatable and she denied treatment, she was an old lady and ready to go.

Dashel · 29/11/2022 20:05

Hbh17 · 29/11/2022 19:45

None of us need to know. This is personal medical information, which absolutely should be kept private. The poor woman lived her entire life in the public eye, and she deserved some dignity in her final years.
Clearly, she was still able to carry out most of her duties (eg appointing a Prime Minister) and those she could not do were delegated to then-Prince Charles & Prince William as her heirs and Counsellors of State.
We were most definitely not "cheated" nor were we "taken for fools".

This exactly.

It isn’t exactly like there is a murder investigation being hushed up.

mellicauli · 29/11/2022 20:05

Maybe she didn't want it public because it's genetic. So it's not just her private medical information, it also pertains to her children and grandchildren.

Who's to say what anyone dies of anyway? Old age? heart failure? aren't they both the same thing. It's like saying you died of dying.

Tansytea · 29/11/2022 20:06

And I would add, I am not a monarchist or a royalist or whatever other stupid term you chose to employ to kind of gloss over your distasteful vulgarity, but your ignorance of the fact that one can die of old age at 96 is weird. As is the whole OP.

HeadNorth · 29/11/2022 20:06

Maybe she died of old age with cancer, rather than of cancer.

Not that it makes any difference or is anyone's business.

JayJayYoYo · 29/11/2022 20:06

This is the difference between Royalty and Reality TV stars. Educate yourself.

onlythreenow · 29/11/2022 20:07

'Cheated' - do get over yourself!! It has nothing to do with anyone, other than family, what the actual cause of death was. She may have been a public figure, but the public don't own her, or the right to know what she actually died from. She was 96 and everyone could see she was declining, as is to be expected at that age.

FatOaf · 29/11/2022 20:07

What is the point of the Palace not being honest?

Should "the Palace" have been honest in 1936 about George V being killed by his doctor? It would have caused a lot of upset and sent the doctor to the gallows.

rosegoldwatcher · 29/11/2022 20:07

Isn't the least we are owed an honest account?

You are owed nothing. Ghoul.

ArcaneWireless · 29/11/2022 20:07

The only people being taken for fools are the people who think they have a right to someone’s personal medical information.

Wheredoallthepensgo · 29/11/2022 20:07

Ugh, nosey AND entitled. My favourite kind of person, not.

AnyFucker · 29/11/2022 20:07

Leave it alone, you absolute loon

2bazookas · 29/11/2022 20:08

Annie232 · 29/11/2022 19:29

I want to know too - how is the doctor signing off the death certificate allowed to lie?

No treason to assume they did.
Any one have multiple medical conditions , even terminal conditions, and die from some new unrelated issue.
Someone with cancer could still have a stroke, a fall, a cardiac arrest and die from shock or a clot.

BotterMon · 29/11/2022 20:09

The only cause of death is the heart stops and the person stops breathing. If people opt not to be resuscitated for whatever reason, then it's usually fatal.

What more gory details do you want to know OP and most importantly, why? What the fuck has it got to do with anyone?
