The Queen died from...in The Times today

In TT today, Dr Porter discusses what is in the latest biography of the Queen (by Giles B.)

Dr P seems to agree with GB that the Queen had bone cancer. He doesn't say so in so many words but he does bullet-point the signs (of which she appears to have had a number.)

I'm a Royalist (with some exceptions, of course) and feel we are being 'cheated' by (perhaps) having the reason for her death being concealed.
She was well loved and admired by millions.
Isn't the least we are owed an honest account?

I am sure everyone could see that she didn't simply die of 'old age' (in so much as anyone in their late 90s does, to a degree.) The pain she was suffering, the weight loss, the circulation problems evident in her calves (varicose ulcers for years) and her hands.

It's as if we are being taken for fools and I wonder how, legally, her dr is allowed to complete the death cert inaccurately?

My late father had 3 conditions listed on his DC, including dementia, but he'd had two other conditions (major organ deterioration) for many years as well.
Considering he was 95, then 'old age' may have covered it but it wasn't just that.

What is the point of the Palace not being honest?

If the Queen had wanted details of her illness shared with you OP - I'm sure that she could have left messages to say so.

I don't have any 'rights' to know details of most of my own family's conditions -unless they give permission. I love them very much but don't expect them to have to share private matters with me because of my feelings.

I’m another who has lost a grandparent to old age.
in truth it was a heart attack and or maybe a stroke.
im quite happy with that it meant no post mortem.
another grandparent died with cancer again. It wasn’t the cancer that killed them.

That a legal document is accurate ?

You think that's ghoulish ?

Are you as bothered about all the other death certificates that only state old age or just the Queen's?

I highly doubt she died of cancer. She was on her feet the previous day and had been having people for the weekends etc. She got old, her health declined and she died. There was nothing unusual about her death at all. She lost weight which was typical. She had mobility issues, again typical. She had bruised hands…absolutely typical. She just faded away.

As I mentioned up thread, my father walked into hospital (clearly very ill) on the Weds, was diagnosed on the Thursday and died on Friday. So it’s not at all impossible it was cancer. But it’s still none of our business.

If it was a partial release to the media ( weird ) will the full death certificate be published ?
Just as the death certificate of each and every one of us will also be published , whether we like it or not ?

Yes but ours won't be published in the fucking tacky Sun newspaper
Do you see the difference ?

And won't be the subject of worldwide discussion nor used to sell some dribbling sycophant's book. I'm not surprised if it's being kept quiet and private, her dying probably the only bit of her life that is.

Wiccan · 30/11/2022 10:36

Unless it's your profession, Who the hell would want to look into other people's death certificates it's bizarre.

malificent7 · 30/11/2022 11:00

I might own a slightly off piste view that people often do die of old age in their 90s. Life is terminal after all!

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 11:19

They really do not. Something always kills you.

@Annie232 and others.

the death certificate was not a lie! Over the age of 80 doctors are allowed to do this, because it is the truth. Every elderly person who dies has an underlying condition.

My DM died recently at the age of 92 and her death certificate said ‘frailty of old age’ even though there were several other medical conditions that contributed. These were listed below ‘old age’ and that is likely what happened with the Queen. Without a post mortem it is not always possible to be certain. It is much more dignified to say ‘frailty of old age’ than to have a PM.

A doctor will do this on your relative’s death certificates and maybe yours too. Stop the hysteria.

My 93 year old mother’s said that too.My father’s said carcinomatosis and kidney failure (he was 97), had had ca prostate for nearly 40 years that eventually spread.

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 11:21

I thought Drs were discouraged strongly from putting old age.

Rocksludge · 30/11/2022 11:23

Bloody hell. Seriously OP?

you’re being cheated by not getting the gory details of an elderly lady’s health conditions?

She was very old. She died of natural causes. That really is all anyone needs to know.

Newwardrobe · 30/11/2022 11:34

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 11:21

They are, I read that (among other reasons) it's to stop people like Harold Shipman from being undetected.

LindaEllen · 30/11/2022 11:41

For all who is saying the doctors are lying, she may have died WITH bone cancer, but she may not have died OF it.

Lots and lots and lots of people die WITH cancer, as it's so common in the later years and we're living so much longer now.

She may not even have had bone cancer, that part is just distasteful speculation and gossip

antelopevalley · 30/11/2022 11:59

100 years from now documents will be released telling the truth. Just as documents have been released in recent years showing that what people were told in the past about the Royal Family was a lie. It happens all the time.

And none of us will be alive to see it. Bummer for you.

That poster is so weirdly obsessed with the RF they're probably intending not to fuck off the mortal coil themselves just to prove you wrong.
They're an embarrassment on these threads. Can only hope they don't tell people in real life how utterly invested they are or people will do that twiddly finger at side of head thing.

Novella4 · 30/11/2022 15:03

@PAFMO

Do you apply the same metric ( over invested ) to the permanent fixture royalists on these threads ?

Or is it only applied to those of us with criticisms?

I see you

I recognise the name. It's entertaining in a warped sort of way.

Novella4 · 30/11/2022 15:17

@Blossomtoes
If you read the thread you'll see it not best practice to write 'old age'
That is not a cause of death

In certain limited circs they can write old age ( known to dr for a long time , no known diagnosis or treatment ongoing)

Unlikely to be the case re the queen and hence the OP

Blossomtoes · 30/11/2022 15:19

I don’t give a shit whether it’s “best practice”. HTH.

You think it’s unlikely the Queen has known her doctor a long time? As for no known diagnosis: how do you know it’s unlikely? Maybe at 96 she simply CBA going down the diagnosis and treatment route and quite fancied dying for a nice rest.
