...what would you do and which current member of the royal family is your closest role model?

I think I'd like to be a working royal along the lines of Katherine, Duchess of Kent or Sophie, Countess of Wessex. I'd probably want to champion the less celebrated public sector such as education, social care, health etc.

The non-working royal model is tempting, but I don't mind a bit of pomp and ceremony and the risk of scandal is a bit high. In for a penny, in for a pound I reckon if you're a royal.

I think the Tindals have got the perfect balance.
They seem like such a “normal” family, but at the same time do their bit when duty calls.

Is this sarcasm?
I thought they did most of what they do abroad using their royal connection for personal gain far away where we can see their desperation

Berrylina · 26/10/2022 00:16

I wouldn't be a working Royal because they don't work. I'd rather be a farmer.
None of them are role models, although I like Charles's way of thinking now, he wants to end the RF.

I would follow Cam's example on violence against women, but I would turbo-charge it. I would visit every refuge in the country, speak to every MP, visit councils, I would never fucking stop if I had their platform.

And Wimbledon.

Why is she so engaged with THIS issue? Her now ex-DH had affairs, but I have never read anything about DV or DA? What is her interest? You see for me it cuts too close. I divorced due to an affair but my ex and his new partner hounded me through the family courts for years, near decades. That is domestic abuse on the financial front. What would "Cam" know about that? Unless you mean a different Cam?

IcklePickleFickle · 26/10/2022 01:42

I’d do lots of work within the arts, become patron for fantastic organisations that open up music and culture for everyone and raise money for places I care about. In terms of the royal I’d be like, I would pick Lady Sarah Chatto (Princess Margaret’s daughter). She’s an artist and she seems to get on well with everyone in the family, respected by everyone and doesn’t cause any drama!

TooBigForMyBoots · 26/10/2022 01:47

I'd go all Kind Hearts And Coronets and be queen in no time.Grin

Ivyonafence · 26/10/2022 05:19

I'd pull a Harry and get as far away from it as I could.

It just seems like torture, especially for women. The scrutiny and lack of freedom would break me, as it has many others.

I feel really sorry for all of them. It's like they don't get to live.

She was very moved by a visit somewhere years ago. She doesn’t need to have experienced it to raise the profile of it.

I agree MaChien. I’d do the same.

I'd pick her too. I expect she has a wonderful life, she has a lovely family, and wore the most beautiful of all the royal wedding dresses to boot! However I'd quite happily be Zara too, or any of the very minor ladies. All of the pomp, none of the responsibility.

JanetSally · 26/10/2022 08:45

Yes Sarah Chatto seems to have had a long and happy marriage, is a successful artist and keeps well out of the limelight while remaining on close terms with the royal family.
I wouldn't like to have had her parents though.

I always think it would be nicest to be one of the minor Windsors like Lady Rose or Lady Amelia. You can pursue the career pathway you desire and have family money to fall back on in case it doesn't work out, you can raise your family in peace and anonymity, photographers and the general public leave you alone, and you get all the benefits of royalty and the Windsor name (invited to royal weddings, summer parties at the Royal Academy or Serpentine, on the balcony for the Trooping etc etc) without any of the drawbacks!

But they’re not Windsors, they’re Spencers aren’t they? So they wouldn’t get invited to the balcony etc. they are Princess Diana’s nieces from her brother. They’re not related to the royal family other than by marriage.

Rose and Amelia are granddaughters of the Dukes of Kent and Gloucester.

CountessOfSponheim · 26/10/2022 13:35

She's said that she had known women who were victims/survivors but she hadn't realised the scale of the issue until she went to a SafeLives event (which I think I was working for a different DA charity at the time so remember the coverage and how emotional she got was in early 2016). Then it snowballed from there as she became a SafeLives patron and made DA her main cause.

CountessOfSponheim · 26/10/2022 13:36

That bit wasn't supposed to be crossed out, but you get the gist.

Enko · 07/11/2022 22:38

I think I'd.go for Duchess of Gloucester as already mentioned. If I had to pick closer then Sophie or Eugenie. I've never got the love on mn for Princess Anne i think she is everything wrong with stuff upper lip pretend all is fine and dandy. Even when things are going wrong right before her.

I wouldn't want to be the Tindalls. Affairs and rugby and now IAAC. No thank you.

LadyVictoriaSponge · 07/11/2022 22:47

Gingerkittykat · 23/10/2022 18:38

Princess Anne is the only worthy role model in that messed up family.

I would hate to be a working royal and think Harry did the right thing by getting out.

He didn’t want to be out though, he wanted half in half out but the Queen said no.

Roussette · 08/11/2022 01:05

I have no idea why posters talk about Anne, or indeed, Camilla like they know them
It's weird.

'I'd love a gin down the pub with Camilla,.she calls a spade a spade.' Errr what?
You don't know her, she might be acerbic, catty and unpleasant for all we know.
Ditto Anne, she could be a right bore and stuck up. (She does a lot of royal engagements, I'll give her that)
They could be delightful, we just don't know

I do think posters forget that we are spoon fed what the RF want us to think. It's all smoke and mirrors

There's plenty of people I'd like to spend an hour or two with but none of them!

Katherine Kent has dropped her HRH, she also taught music in Hull for about a decade under the name, "Mrs Kent"

She'd be my role model.

MyLovelyPen · 08/11/2022 04:03

“Working” royal! None of them work! Agree with PP who says it’s all smoke and mirrors.

That’s why they want you to think The Crown is a work of fiction 😂

JeanMalaga · 09/11/2022 20:28

I’d prefer to be a distant relative like Sarah Chatto, or the Olgivys….defo not a working royal! Never…

Croque · 09/11/2022 20:35

None of them but Camilla ( in her current phase) does have a nice life: rambling country house, only lives with KC part time and usually when they are on interesting, foreign engagements, unlimited Duchy produce to eat, has a huge library (is extremely well read). The younger Camilla on the other hand...

QueenOfMOHO · 15/11/2023 12:06

I'm an OT and Princess Anne has done so much to champion my profession and raise its profile, including helping to achieve "Royal college" status. I like her no nonsense approach and met her once when she was off duty, in a tweed mill in Scotland , (which is absolutely where you'd expect to meet her😁).

pilates · 15/11/2023 15:50

Zara looks like she has fun

Come on now 😂 we have all read about how lovely Doria is blah blah blah and of course Meghan.

milveycrohn · 15/11/2023 20:10

I would have liked to have been the younger sibling (or married to a younger sibling). In other words, before he 'stepped back from the RF', I personally think PH had the best of all worlds. The being Royal bit without the real hassle.
I would be quite happy NOT to walk in front, but to be behind several more important royals. I would have preferred the option of a quieter wedding (rather than the really grand stuff the direct in line has to have), etc
I would model myself on P.Anne or P.Edward (or spouse).
One I admire the most is the Duke of Gloucester (himself a spare, a second son, but whose elder brother died). He had a proper job as an architect, before inheriting the title. He is often there at royal events, just getting on with the job.

Medlady · 16/11/2023 17:57

I'd sneak the tiaras one by one to my jeweller accomplice, who'd replace them with good fakes and split the proceeds with me. I would have total deniability given how many royal women had handled them before me...
