Unpopular Opinion - William and Kate

1000 replies

EdaYildiz · 13/10/2022 21:27

Don't come at me, I'm sharing my unpopular opinion because I want to know what you all think but just don't see a spark between William & Kate.

Loved them since the day they starting dating way back when they were undergrads at St Andrews but I just don't see their connection in pictures and it seems a little forced when she has her hand on his back or when they do hold hands.

I don't expect them to hold hands and snog because I know they're mostly photographed whilst they're working but he looks bored and she looks like she's trying her best.

Does anyone agree with me?

Harry probably naively thought the Queen would live at least as long as the Queen Mother and therefore so would Charles ...

The Queen Mother was remarkable, wasn't she? I mean - I don't know the ins and outs of her daily routine, but she didn't come over as a fitness fanatic, or an outdoorsy, fresh-air, active person like Anne. And it's on record that she drank pretty heavily throughout her life. The Queen and PP did very well, but not quite as well, with probably more healthy lifestyles.

It's all pretty worrying at the moment - especially since Princess Anne had her accident. They must feel cursed.

(and btw, on Celebitchy many contributors are gleefully rejoicing at the RF's health problems and laughing about Meghan having managed to curse them. A delight, as always, that site.)

EvangelistaSister · 26/06/2024 14:41

It does seem like they are cursed. Three members including Sarah have developed cancer, five if you count the late Queen and PP. Now Anne gets kicked by a horse…

ArcaneWireless · 26/06/2024 14:53

Cursed?

Then my family must be too.

Far more than three instances of cancer in the last few years. With icing on top of strokes and dementia. Oh and a life limiting illness, sepsis and failing organs.

No horse kicks granted.

But someone call a farrier and get me shod because I could happily kick the arses of those who chat shit about curses.

Same here. We are like the Kennedys but without the money.

AliceOlive · 26/06/2024 15:07

It’s a very strange person that would celebrate the illness of others. Sad people.

AliceOlive · 26/06/2024 15:14

There is something off to me with someone claiming a woman is cursing others and causing them harm. It feels racist and misogynist. That may be my American heritage talking since women accused of witchcraft were burned at the stake not so long ago here. Our history also includes voodoo priestesses though I suppose those women were more revered and feared than anything else.

I find it rather uncomfortable and unpleasant.

I get the impressions that Celebitchy attracts an equal measure of British and US posters, and it is often like looking under a stone*! The cruel and malicious posts there are something else. The glee at people's illness and misfortune is chilling. I know should stop looking - it always upsets me, but it is horribly fascinating.

(*I like creepy-crawlies - didn't mean to insult them!)

AliceOlive · 26/06/2024 16:12

I peeked once and came running back here. Amazing that anyone who spends time there would complain about this place. Yes, we talk about wrinkled dresses and numbered jars of jam. There is no comparison.

Cursed? Some voodoo spell or just life happening?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 26/06/2024 16:50

Considering one out of two people will get cancer at some time I'm not seeing a curse. Just life and bad luck.

I’m not being entirely serious!

ArcaneWireless · 26/06/2024 17:21

Hard to tell between supposedly funny and terminally idiotic.

Uricon2 · 26/06/2024 19:35

I'm quite capable of ill wishing someone (not that it makes a difference) but it's reserved for the likes of war criminals, not Harry and Meghan. It is quite possible to think that they've been a pair of idiots with a vastly inflated sense of their own importance who have damaged their family relationships possibly irrevocably, without wanting anything bad to happen to them, at all.

The problem is that there are some who do seem to genuinely wish harm for the rest of the RF and are gleeful when it happens. I don't understand it, it is grisly and I wouldn't want to be in their heads for a second.

CathyorClaire · 26/06/2024 20:12

he was such a fool to think him and Meghan could undertake all the glitzy events whilst flogging jam and dog biscuits.

Not even flogging them yet. Giving them away and they can't even do that successfully. Forty odd jars of strawberry jam still appear to be AWOL 😬

LadyVictoriaSponge · 26/06/2024 12:46

I wonder what Harry think when he sees the pictures of the State Banquet in the papers today, it would have been him and Meghan front and centre bedecked in jewels and regalia with Emperor of Japan, he was such a fool to think him and Meghan could undertake all the glitzy events whilst flogging jam and dog biscuits.

As far as I recall Harry only attended one State Banquet . He accompanied Rose Hanbury as he husband was on official duty . Meghan wasn’t allowed to attend as she was only Harry’s girlfriend. Reports at the time suggested Meghan was furious and some time after that the Rose/ William rumours started . Coincidence?
H and M were supposed to attend the State Banquet for Trump but pulled out ..

CathyorClaire · 26/06/2024 20:22

Yes, and I suppose it's possible Charles may decide to step down early in view of his illness.

I'd be utterly amazed if Charles stepped down early willingly having waited forever for the gig. Illness may force his hand of course but I don't think any other consideration will. Destiny and all that.

Maireas · 26/06/2024 20:28

Charles will never step down.

upinaballoon · 26/06/2024 20:31

QE2 didn't abdicate. She stopped going abroad and she did less and Charles will do the same if he has to.

I don't think he will either.

I have heard a BBC reporter on radio, more or less at Megxit time, say that the 'banquets etc. side' of the job wasn't really Harry's cup of tea. Meghan might have liked the banquets. You don't have to just look good and eat, though. You have to talk to people without putting your foot in it. Could be a drawback when all you want to do is eat a forkful of delicious stuff.

Also Harry seems woefully ignorant generally so I imagine talking to the great and the good would present a challenge for him.

It's a shame that people can't see the working royals more as lifetime, high level diplomats very skilled in "soft diplomacy". All that small talk they have to make on a daily basis, constant intrusion in your private life, people looking for the slightest gaffe. Examining every stitch of your clothing for hidden symbols or offence. It must be absolutely exhausting having be constantly on show all the time, having the make intelligent conversation with a head of state from Papua New Guinea this week and next week hosting a dinner and speaking to a prime minister whose policies you privately oppose and having to know every topic of conversation to avoid and what to talk about. I wouldn't have a clue what on earth I would begin to talk to the Prime Minister of Portugal about. Then inbetween visit some homeless shelter/youth club/community outreach projects and try to be empathising and "of thr people" without being patronising. While raising your family to be normal but not too normal, to be family focussed but still do hundreds of royal engagements plus prepare for them, keep yourself looking suitably regal, poised and beautiful (but only if you've married in, princesses of thr blood royal can pretty much do what they like, fascinators notwithstanding)

i definitely wouldn't want to do it for all the jewels in the tower.

Yes exactly! Though you’ll find countless people moaning about how lazy they are. Who would want to work till they are incapacitated with no private life to speak of and constant intrusion and criticism.
