Prince William goes 'deer culling' in Balmoral

What's wrong with these people? I can maybe understand the need for occasional culling (though it is most often for the human agency not a concern for the animal) but to go out and enjoy stalking these magnificent creatures get them in the sights of your guns and kill them - that's just sick.

PS. King Charles was a big fan of fox hunting

AIBU? - Yes this is actual nature conservation activity and William is showing concern and leadership in participating in the shooting.

YANBU? - No this is a sick perverted hobby of the super-rich who glory in the pleasure killing of defenceless animals.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-11300807/Prince-Wales-visits-Balmoral-goes-deer-stalking-Scotland-trip-Queens-funeral.html

"Deer stalking is the act of culling ageing stags that would otherwise die in the winter, with William shooting his first when he was 14 years old, something that is said to have left him delighted at the time.
The activity, which has been a shared passion among generations of the Royal Family, was encouraged by William's father King Charles III, while Princess Diana used to jokingly call him 'my killer Wales'.
William is not thought to have been joined in Scotland by his wife Catherine, who is herself a keen markswoman, and their children. A spokesman for Kensington Palace declined to comment."

An ethical viewpoint

Maybe do some basic Googling on deer culling first OP?

@Plantstrees A good first step would be to make it a criminal offence to feed deer. The feeding of deer over the winter artificially inflates numbers. I would like to see how many deer there were if this was illegal and enforced.

I don’t have a problem with hunting. I have a problem with animals raised in farms where their life is torture. So unless you’re vegan I dont think you can say anything

Try reading the thread, OP is vegan. Hunting for pleasure is fucked up. If animals need culling, leave it to the experts, not some silly little man that want to feel tough. Silly little twats.

@ForTheLoveOfSleep Pure propaganda.

MogandBunny · 11/10/2022 09:41

@Kissingfrogs25 is doing some excellent trolling on this thread 😂 Remain ignorant and just keep punching wildly into the abyss

newnamethanks · 11/10/2022 09:42

Oh for crying out loud. The Prince of Wales has no need to cull his own deer. I doubt he's up at 4am each day to milk the Duchy dairy herd or feed the free range chickens. It's simply the pursuit of pleasure and is pretty repellent in that respect.

Sausagenbacon · 11/10/2022 09:42

So what's the difference between you and me enjoying a nice steak, or a good cheese, getting pleasure from the probably barbaric treatment of an animal, and shooting them?

Kissingfrogs25 · 11/10/2022 09:42

I works very very careful where you source your research. The country alliance are very very well funded and produce plenty of information, ‘evidence’ and statistics all designed to support the continuation of blood sports.

I suggest we get them all in a classroom and talk about abstinence.

You may sneer, but managing animal populations with contraception is a thing.

And the dairy industry is cruel too. But let's not think about that.

The dairy industry is evil. Probably more evil than the meat industry.

Although I have come across an 'ethical dairy' in Galloway who are keeping the calves with their mums.

It's so cruel to take babies away from their mums at 24 hours old. Really really cruel.

I hope everyone here who’s spitting feathers over deer hunting only eats free range grass fed meat that died in its sleep or are vegan🙄

Its the pleasure taken, same with fox hunting.

These are estates that charge between 500 and 1000 per day to stalk deer, they have no interest in reducing numbers, in fact its the exact opposite.

Same with all game shooting really.

Its a business, i doubt too many on here go into Tesco and come out with 500g of Venison.

OP, I think we need to ascertain first of all - do you understand the need for/reasons behind deer culling?

They’re not interested in knowing. There’s a hard core of Sussex Squad posters on here that will shout any old nonsense to have a go at certain royals. It’s pointless trying to explain that culling deer is not the same thing as shooting pheasants or hunting foxes.

Precisely! Do you think he scrubs the toilets because ‘it needed doing’?

Pleasegodgotosleep · 11/10/2022 09:44

Get off your high horse! Rural life is different deers need to be culled it's a humane and safety issue. The press make the big deal of who's involved.

Please feel free to provide your own links to scientific research. I would be very happy to read a reasoned response and detailed scientifically supported alternative to culling.

Still not gone out yet will try to answer tagged posts on return but this video of admittedly US hunters killing stags is quite chilling. Note the delight and pleasure they get when they down one. If they didn't enjoy it they wouldn't do it and that pic of Harry just goes to show the pleasure it gives them. I'll reiterate this is about William doing their 'sport' and his desire to keep his image pristine.

Fieldsofhay · 11/10/2022 09:44

it would be nice if Scotland could reforest parts of the endless heather, but that cannot be done due to the deer population. They munch anything planted.

Is Prince William is killing deer primarily for land management reasons? Is he heck!

Rubyupbeat · 11/10/2022 09:45

Vile

Grantanow · 11/10/2022 09:45

The usual tired old arguments on both sides when the UK is facing economic problems of the first order caused by a hopeless Tory government. Priorities!

The RF go hunting and shoot pheasants how strange that you think it is ‘just’ deer.

Kissingfrogs25 · 11/10/2022 09:46

Another good reason for Sturgeon to demand independence as if she needed more!!

He is hardly helping!!!

Good to get this stuff out there.

People are so ignorant of what the RF get up too, whilst telling us to do the opposite.

I’m not the strange one on here. Have you explained yet how the shortage of beds in A&E is down to bloodsports?

PoundShopPrincess · 11/10/2022 09:47

I must admit, I much preferred MN when the Royal (ahem) fans hadn't discovered it. Surely there must be a royal website where they can all go and discuss how much they love certain people with lots of money whilst hating other people with lots of money?
