Camilla couldn’t give a fig about being Queen

Queen or Queen consort, please let’s not discuss that.

She has great involvement in issues that she’s bothered about like Osteoporosis, children reading, domestic violence.

Her services, at Local and national level, alone or with The King are regular and demanding for a lady of her age.

Her husband loves her. She loves him. She has made him more human

Queen (or whatever, is the last priority for her)

@MarshaMelrose

i’ve read all the books. He is a big presence, which attracts attention and his size means he fights in a particular way due to his long reach etc, you can’t act a long reach 🤣

luckily prime has made a more suitable series

To me,
a need for constant displays of affection in public suggests an insecurity and a need to make things obvious in case of doubt. Those who are truly secure in their relationship don’t grab and stroke each other constantly. Especially when they are older and have been married before.

I think this is cultural. In Britain, all but tiny PDAs between couples unless they are very young, is frowned upon. But there are many other cultures with very different ways of being. Some cultures consider the British very physically standoffish and cold.

MissMarpleRocks · 05/10/2022 11:37

PDAs aren’t really acceptable to the Greeks either tbh. It’s not seen as appropriate except to the very young.

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 11:44

@antelopevalley

its a really interesting point often hands are extended to help, remember Donald trump dragging Theresa may up the stairs so often holding hands can show dominance,

American President hold hands.

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 11:46

Sorry my phone keeps randomly posting

American presidents hold hands in both a professional and personal capacity.

I wouldn’t do it personally in a professional capacity but that’s my personal decision not a judgment on anyone else. I remember holding my husbands hand at his mothers funeral.

MarshaMelrose · 05/10/2022 11:52

Stop it, never, just stop it. You're cutting me to the quick here. 🥺 Now I know how posters feel when negative things are said about Harry and Meghan. 😄

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 11:57

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 @MarshaMelrose 💐

my weak spot is Robert Redford, one of the pro H&M posters refused my enthusiastic suggestions to watch ‘all the presidents men’ 🤯 as they dismissed the WP as a tabloid 🤣🤣🤣 (when the WP suggested that H&M risked being stuck as victims if they didn’t move on)

MarshaMelrose · 05/10/2022 12:07

Robert Redford!!! He's an absolutely awful, terrible...oh I can't. He always seems very personable and good natured. I love that he set up an indy film festival. I like some of his pictures but they're a bit too thoughtful for me. I like some Cruise wham, kapow action. TC is the Top Cat after all. 😍

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 12:12

@MarshaMelrose

I’d love to pretend it’s his choice of films - but he’s just so handsome and Hugh Jackman - I saw his live show which was amazing - watching him tap dance to thunderstruck AC/dc - but I don’t love him enough to watch les Mis 🤣

Serenster · 05/10/2022 12:24

American President hold hands

I did a proper double take at this, til I realised you meant with their wives. 🤣

Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 12:27

@Serenster

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

SenecaFallsRedux · 05/10/2022 15:13

Not quite American presidents holding hands, but there is this:

Camilla couldn’t give a fig about being Queen
Ohnonevermind · 05/10/2022 15:21

That is too funny

Dinoteeth · 05/10/2022 15:23

😂😂😂

MarshaMelrose · 05/10/2022 17:22

Bill and Tony sitting in a tree,
K-I-S-S-I-N-G

I haven't caught up with this . When I'm busy I put mumsnet away completely - how do you all find the time ?
I'll respond to the two points :
You claim the royals ' aren't setting themselves up as the perfect family'
Jesus - they don't state hey we are the perfect family ! Their PR and media attempt to present them as such . Why bother with all the family photo shoots for gods sake if not to do that ?
The royals are clearly dysfunctional - how can they not be , with family members being unequal ( heir and a spare ). This dysfunctional family sits atop and reinforces a dysfunctional class system. They actively hide the affairs , living apart etc . Again previous posters say why shouldn't they hide it? Because the public are being fed lies that's why ? Not many believe the royals are any better than the rest of us but plenty believe the image presented and don't question it - very handy for the royal PR

Re ageism .
If I ever said ALL people over 60 are royalist clearly that was wrong.
I'm well aware that older people hold a diverse range of views .
However statistically ( as far as we can trust the statistics) and judging by the photos of walkabouts it's predominantly older people who are royalist and younger who are not . Older people are less likely to get their news from a range of sources and more likely to rely on MSM. That was my point

Novella4 · 09/10/2022 14:11

Sorry the below was in response to @smilesy

BadgerB · 09/10/2022 15:18

Diana dying in such a tragic way has thrown a shadow over Charles & Camilla.

If she'd lived, remarried (maybe more than once - she was just getting into her stride...) her sons would be less damaged, and Charles & Camilla would be seen as the "steady" ones.

Likewhatever · 10/10/2022 08:27

I’ll admit seeing her referred to as “Her Majesty” did give me a jolt. Perhaps because PP was HRH, I hadn’t considered that Camilla would be majestified.

Arbesque · 10/10/2022 08:30

antelopevalley · 04/10/2022 22:45

Harry and Meghan
and Charles and Camilla look as if they are into each other.

So do Zara and Mike and Kate and William

Arbesque · 10/10/2022 08:34

I agree though that there is no relation between PDAs and the strength of a relationship.
I have known very demonstrative and starry eyed couples split up, and very undemonstrative couples remain happily together for years and years.

Redqueenheart · 10/10/2022 09:01

I have always liked her.

She seems like a sensible, no-nonsense type of woman who gets on with things, who does not feel the need to over-share and who is not desperate for publicity.

She was always the right woman for Charles as she seems to know how to handle his ''moods'' and prickly character, has similar interests and provides him with emotional stability.

Novella4 · 10/11/2022 09:46

@Redqueenheart

'Not desperate for publicity'

Lol - I bet she isn't

Roussette · 04/10/2022 17:36

It's very very early days. We can't judge a thing a matter of weeks into his reign

Well he was egged just the other day.

Also, wasn't someone arrested during one of his walkabouts during HMQE funeral?

You are referring to me, and deliberately misquoting me too.

I said I don't trust any American paper with 'post' on it, and went on to explain this was due to the NYP. I also went on to explain that I did not necessarily think that 'Post' applies to the UK or other countries, and made the example that NYT and The Times in the UK don't seem to even have the same values. I also said that's just on me.
