The last thread filled up during a particularly chatty morning.

I completely agree.
I was asked about Ms Miss or Mrs for pet insurance recently- Why the heck should it matter?
I did have a couple of men say “Ms means well men are divorced “ but these were the “Pale male and stale” types.
Ms should ideally be the only option.

Pet insurance?! Crazy.
Our standing as women is allied to our status with men.
Men that say Ms means divorced are being deliberately anti feminist, imo

oakleaffy · 02/10/2022 13:32

Edit:
Typing while walking
Predictive took over..
Should read “ Women” not well men.

They were the sort of men who definitely would have been anti feminist for sure.

I have always kept my maiden name and used 'Ms', for me it means mind your own business! My marital status is completely irrelevant in most scenarios.

I actually had a rather obnoxious cold caller just this past week who wouldn't speak to me when I went to the door and insisted I fetched my husband. I felt like I had briefly teleported back to the 1970s. He got short shrift.

Quite. These antiquated attitudes are still with us!

@MalagaNights Apparently they didn’t make her a goodwill ambassador several years before, so the rumour is that she had the hump. However, that’s only speculation on the part of the press so far as I can see. It was very hot, humid and busy and she was pregnant, so it’s quite possible that she did genuinely start to feel unwell and need to leave.

That is a possibility but an aide was seen in tears afterwards. When there are a couple of high flying professionals (Knauf and Manning) quoted as saying negative things about Meghan’s behaviour on that tour, I just have to believe that the behaviour of the Sussexes was terrible. Also I have read previous reports that H refused to talk to the accompanying press park until he was forced to go to the back of the plane where he was blunt and rude.

GlorianaCervixia · 02/10/2022 14:54

Such a mad impulsive thing to do, being rude to a plane load of journalists. Of course it would leak out.

Croque · 02/10/2022 15:03

Well, that was the moment they went nuclear and it hasn't stopped.

DuchessOfPort · 02/10/2022 15:05

I remember from that tour MM was too tired to go and meet Harry’s wounded veterans participating in Invictus. She made it to the nice swanky lunch though. I really think if you’re going to skip an engagement because you’re tired, then skip the cocktail party not the amputees. On balance. Much like Harry not going to the marines but asking for work at the Lion King premiere. Except he didn’t even say he was “tired”. And I don’t find her pregnancy to have bearing on it. I travelled when I was pregnant and went to meetings jetlagged to the hilt. If I’d said I was “tired”, my boss would have thought I was pulling her leg. She did it too actually, sick as a dog for four months.

If you can’t see the wounded veterans, you have to skip the lunch too. While I would HATE to be a royal, I do think they are very lucky in meeting all sorts of interesting people. I would see it as a privilege to meet wounded servicemen.

Readinginthesun · 02/10/2022 15:29

I wonder if VL will be doing the round of interviews the way TB did ?

Novella4 · 02/10/2022 15:40

@serenester
This again? The crown estate does NOT belong to the Windsors . It belongs to the state . Quote 'by right of the crown' all you like, no monarchy = 100% to the state .

Some people seem to think the Windsors are doing us a favour handing over 75% of crown estate profits !
Funding was changed by the Tories and it was originally 15 % of crown estate revenues the Windsors could keep. Poor dears weren't happy with that and now it's 25%

They also do not pay for their security or their travel ! No wonder they hop from palace to palace by helicopter.
And getting figures for transport and travel is not easy.
As easy as getting a Windsor to pay tax

Serenster · 02/10/2022 15:52

Kind of a pointless argument Novella, since we do have a monarchy. But if you want to play hypotheticals, there was no monarchy then the royal family would have a very good claim for restitution for the Crown estates, or some portion of them. Unless you envisage a bloody French revolutionary style transition where all potential claimants get murdered and the state can seize everything (I expect that probably is what you want! 😀)

Novella4 · 02/10/2022 15:54

Lol! That have no claim to royal estates at all as well you know !

French Revolution is a bit of an overreaction lol!

I'm sure they'll go quietly . They've had a good run

Surely it won't matter to you, looking on from independent, republican Wales?

goldierocks · 02/10/2022 16:24

Just caught up with the thread. I recalled reading an interview with Gina Nelthorpe-Cowne, who had been Meghan's agent. I remembered her saying there were a number of deals in negotiation, including one with a leading skincare company. She also said Meghan told her she'd googled Harry.

Anyway - the interview was conducted in April 2018, i.e. before the wedding and the tumultuous events which have followed. I found reading the interview again to be interesting.

HERE is the interview, in case anyone would like to read it.

jeffgoldblum · 02/10/2022 16:40

Interesting @goldierocks ! , missed all this first time round.

MalagaNights · 02/10/2022 17:04

That interview is interesting!

Are Beatrice and Eugenie in the same position as H & M? As in Are they non working royals who get no funding, no security and travel etc? Do they have to fund themselves?

I know H&M have suggested some people got the in &out version they wanted but I'm not sure who that would be.

nettie434 · 02/10/2022 17:07

Thanks for that link Goldierocks. The sentence 'Stop. I don't want to hear any negativity' certainly suggests that she did not want to hear about the media scrutiny she could expect.

That's quite amusing.
I think it was Prince Philip who said exactly that back in the 70s (?) when the subject of republicanism was reading its head. "When we go, we'll go quietly."
I mean, they may well be quite happy to leave. After all, they're not going to be destitute. They'll be extremely wealthy but be able to live free lives.

Yes, they don't get security or funding, you're right. They do not perform official duties and have been expected to earn their own money. They have both lobbied to be working royals, without success, and also recently lobbied to have their father reinstated. Also without success.
