Some posters complain there are not enough critical threads about Andrew so….
A new biography by Angela Levin claims that Andrew lobbied The Queen to bypass Charles as King and make him ( Andrew ) Regent if William was too young .
According to the book , he was backed by Diana and Sarah .
Somehow i think this has the ring of truth .

She’s come out with some bonkers stuff in her time but that’s right up there.

why would he be lobbying to be regent? If Charles wasn’t to be King - be that by removal from the succession, abdication, being locked in the tower - then Andrew would have been the potential regent for William anyway as the next adult in line.

Do I think there’s any possibility of a scheme being cooked up that would have landed the crown on an underage Prince William, or even one who hasn’t had the chance to go to university and enjoy a few years of normality first… nope. Can’t imagine Diana wanting that for her son even if she did like the idea of the succession skipping Charles and we know the queen cherished her few years of private married life before the succession hit her.

If it was just a scheme that involved the crown bypassing elderly Charles for a mature William it might be more believable, but Angela Levin has overreached herself with this one.

Also it completely ignores that the Queen can’t just pick and choose regents. A change to the Regency Act would have had to go through Parliament.

I read the article too, it seemed to be because of Camilla and that he would have to abdicate if he married her in an Edward-and-Mrs-Simpson way.

Andrew said Camilla wasn’t well born enough/was unsuitable for the role. Because of course he has impeccable insight into character!

I find this report more intriguing given Wills got PoW and the walletDuchy before Granny was cold.

I would hope that Charles would make Edward and Sophie Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh - but to be fair, it would be a pretty poor thing to do before the previous Duchess of Edinburgh had been buried.

The previous Prince and Princess of Wales were promoted to King and Queen, so to appoint William and Kate immediately was fair enough.

@Readinginthesun Somehow I think this is utter bullocks if you know ANYTHING AT ALL about the RF. The Q didn’t have the power to do this, as all these people would have known.

@Readinginthesun Somehow I think this is utter bullocks if you know ANYTHING AT ALL about the RF. The Q didn’t have the power to do this, as all these people would have known.

I am certainly not believing the claims but some of the responses here are very interesting- slagging off the author rather than Andrew .

That’s a it weird connection to make.

Andrew being awful, doesn’t make a bad journalist/authors story’s believable.

People are analysing the story’s not Andrew and his behaviour in other situations.

People don’t really discuss Andrew here, because what is there to say? He is a dickhead and should fuck off. Most people agree.

How would that thread go ‘Aibu or is Andrew a cunt?’ , with all the responses saying ‘yeah’ , just to prove what?

To be fair there's no current Duchess of Edinburgh as Charles' titles merged with the crown upon becoming King so can now be re-distributed if he decides to do so (as he has done with the Prince of Wales title).

He may well wait until after the coronation before bestowing titles on anyone other than the direct heir to the throne but I think he will give Edward the Duke of Edinburgh as that was his parents wish apparently & I think he'd honour that.

Andrew is a terrible individual, arrogant and stupid. He might have seen active service but he was lazy and disliked. I feel sorry for the Queen and Philip that he turned out like he has.

If ever he'd had a sniff of the crown, orb and sceptre it would be the end.

Charles became DofE on Prince Philip's death making Camilla DuchofE.

Now he's become king the title has reverted to the crown and is currently vacant.

Maybe he just didn't want to be seen handing out masses of huge gongs straight away but the royals aren't usually noted for caring how things play with the public.

He's been heavily criticised for all sorts of well documented boorish, greedy and inappropriate behaviour over many decades.
