The royal family

Charles and that “bloody” pen

The clip of Charles with the leaking pen is an interesting insight into how the royals behave and how they are treated by their seemingly very obsequious staff. Is Charles’ behaviour reasonable or do you think he’s kicking up an unnecessary fuss? Interested to hear other people’s perspectives really because I’ve never seen a clip like this before.

Btw she completely denies it now 😂

I have three fountain pens that I use for work, and one of them is definitely my favourite (weight, nib smoothness and inkflow are all perfect!).

I’m also not sure who it was upthread who said signing documents in front of others people isn’t stressful - I beg to differ. Many years of taking, and being a witness for, people signing affidavits and other legal documents shows very clearly that many people find it very stressful. People are surprisingly prone to getting their signatures all wrong or spelling their names wrong because it’s something they normally do on autopilot and then when they falter through stress they have no idea how to get back on the right track!

Also - with the ink pens at the accession proclamation, that was badly done by the staff there to support Charles. The inkstand was unnecessary, but had clearly been placed there as a sentimental gesture as it had been a gift from his sons. Fair enough. But when it became clear when signing the first documents that he found it in the way and ended up gesturing for it to be moved, why on earth when they laid out the second set of documents to be signed, did they put it right back in the same place? That’s just not paying attention. (I’ve been in that role, where it was my job to thank of everything my boss needs when on show and make it happen seamlessly, so I know damn well what I’d have done there. Unsurprisingly, he was irritated).

@Serenster
We've been over this a lot

Regardless of how cluttered the table was he could have lifted items himself or politely asked

Instead he flapped his hands rudely and childishly at people , bared his teeth ridiculously .
It was clearly habitual behaviour

It was very damaging

Excellent! One more viewpoint won’t be an issue then! 😀

TiddyTidTwo · 16/09/2022 12:01

"It was very damaging"

To who?

Novella4 · 16/09/2022 12:10

@TiddyTidTwo

Damaging to the image of 'royalty'

I'd have thought that was obvious

Lots of funny memes about it though

The Queen shouted at some people when watching Prince Phillip driving carriages, and also got caught on camera calling the Chinese state visit delegation rude. William shouted at a photographer, Harry pushed a camera into a photographer’s face and cut his lip. They are human beings as well as royals, and the words seems to have kept turning after the incidents above.

And after each incident the number of people pro monarchy is getting smaller and smaller...

Yes of course, we can all look around us right now and notice how the number of people who support the monarchy in the UK is getting smaller and smaller….

purpleme12 · 16/09/2022 12:53

I don't like to see them emotionless actually.
I think there more relatable when they show emotion

notanotheroneagain · 16/09/2022 13:08

So many posters rushing with 'give him a break'.
I wonder where they are when posters and the media pile on, on another couple for holding hands and other nonsense .
The standards have been set high for some. It cuts both ways.

So so many people that are watching the funeral are doing so from a "its history in motion" point of view rather than "loving the monarchy"
I know of several.

"Damaging to the image of 'royalty'"

Was it? I didn't think so. I saw a human rather frustrated. Happens to us all

I rather like Prince Phillip though "just take the fucking picture" 😂

TiddyTidTwo · 16/09/2022 13:41

"I wonder where they are when posters and the media pile on, on another couple for holding hands and other nonsense "

Only those who believe MSM and lack critical thinking for themselves believe this.

exactly this .Yes, he was under pressure.Yes,he's grieving and tired .I don't expect or want him to act like an automaton. In the clip where the items need moving he's not been stymied by a leaking pen or kicking himself for getting the date wrong he's summoning help .Fair enough ,where would he have moved stuff to if he attempted to do it himself .It's how he signals his request - so irritable,so aggressive . Contrast with William asking for a pen moments later .
It seems to me that this is his default conduct.

Do you think if someone filmed you almost constantly for days after your mother died they’d not catch you pulling a face or having a moment? My dad is dying this week and if you’d have filmed me you’d have seen crying, anger, red eyes, scruffy hair, grumpiness, the works. If this is the worst that the media can find to throw at him he’s really not bad!

antelopevalley · 16/09/2022 14:44

@Honeyroar I am so sorry about your dad.
If someone had filmed me lots after my mum and dad died in a car crash this year they would have filmed me looking tearful and distracted, but no they would not have filmed me being impatient or angry at small things. Normal irritants seemed supremely unimportant suddenly. Things that wound other people up around me just washed over me.

Dinoteeth · 16/09/2022 14:45

@Honeyroar I'm so sorry.

Honeyroar · 16/09/2022 14:56

Thank you both.
@antelopevalley youre stronger than me. I’ve closed my coffee shop for a couple of days because I felt I couldn’t trust myself to be public facing and not get irritated by awkward customers (something I can usually cope with easily!).

antelopevalley · 16/09/2022 14:57

@Honeyroar I am not sure if I am stronger really. I struggled with thinking. I think I was in deep shock. But I felt very calm.

ajandjjmum · 16/09/2022 15:11

We're all individuals and we all react differently. Surely we are kind enough to show empathy to one another.

I hope I get that afterwards. Perhaps it’s just more frustrating watching him slowly go. (no criticism of you meant at all) 🙂

Dinoteeth · 16/09/2022 15:41

@Honeyroar if its any comfort the day it hit home my DDad was dying, my LO was in hospital I got very frustrated with an inhaler LO hated it, it kept falling to bits, i needed to get it into him, he kept hitting it. Lack of sleep, Tears and fainted.

The hospital flagged it to my HV who did a visit to check my MH and check for depression.

ShamedBySiri · 17/09/2022 12:20

Well someone in the crowd has given him a pen and he took the joke well. Meanwhile he has come prepared with his own pen in his pocket.

Order is restored.

Wellwisher gives King Charles a pen 'just in case' after ink disasters
