I hope Camilla has changed into some flats!

Are they from the Holyrood gardens?

I'm OK until I see Sophie Wessex. She's so sad, bless her.

That picture of her crouched down looking at the flowers.😭She and HM were so close.

toomuchlaundry · 12/09/2022 15:25

The crown has set my tears off!

PizzaFunghi · 12/09/2022 15:26

They said the coffin (or maybe the catafalque) was made specially of Scottish oak etc. Do you think both of these were made in advance and stored somewhere to be transported to wherever they were needed, or has this all been done since Thursday? I mean it seems morbid that her coffin would be ready years in advance, but then the whole thing has to be done pragmatically and they all knew that plans were ready, so maybe that would be fine.

Is that a Scottish crown from wherever she keeps them there? Or brought up from Crown Jewels in London?

ApolloandDaphne · 12/09/2022 15:27

I really need to go walk the dog but I am sucked in now. This means more to me than the big state funeral. It is so familiarly Church of Scotland.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 12/09/2022 15:27

Fun fact - the coffin was made years ago from English oak and has fitments to allow the regalia to be clipped into place.

LIZS · 12/09/2022 15:27

Scottish crown , think it is kept at the castle normally.

nonevernotever · 12/09/2022 15:28

St Giles has a choir. No idea if that's them singing or not.

Charliecatpaws · 12/09/2022 15:28

I assume that attendance at St Giles today was by invitation only? I wonder who all those people are?

Article about that very thing in the Times today. Apparently the coffinwas made 30 years ago and stored. This is a family that plans things years in advance.

The "Stone" of Destiny sounds very magic / Marvel

ChickenGotLegs · 12/09/2022 15:29

As bad as it sounds I'm glad she died in Scotland, our country would never have seen any of this if she had passed in England. We have done her proud I think.

SpinCityBlues · 12/09/2022 15:30

I had hoped the Duke of Hamilton might take the opportunity to unruffle that bit of the royal standard on the coffin. It's bothering me slightly.

nonevernotever · 12/09/2022 15:30

Yes it's invitation only. It includes representatives from organisations and charities across Scotland along with others.

My DM and I were just saying that earlier. We have given her a good Scottish send off.

I completely agree, Im not scottish (Londoner) but actually this feels so 'her' rather than all the Buckingham Palace bits which seem quite sterile and surface.

Does everyone else hold their breath as the pall bearers manoeuvre the coffin?

There was a monarch who was dropped. Can't remember who now, Edward Vll maybe?

I was thinking this just now

Without her being in Bslmoral I assume it would have all been done in England

It’s nice time see it spread out like this

ApolloandDaphne · 12/09/2022 15:34

Well I'm greetin' now.

PizzaFunghi · 12/09/2022 15:34

Thanks for the info about the crown and coffin.

It's fascinating how much history and planning is involved.

It must be so hard for the royals there, like having to go through several funerals and be visible publicly in them all.

I mean, maybe if they are religious, they find it genuinely comforting, I guess. But I would have found it incredibly hard to have all these sorts of services and events for my parent who died before the actual funeral. It was a relief when it was over for sure and I could grieve alone.

Nice to hear the harp and have Scottish music

blobby10 · 12/09/2022 15:34

ChickenGotLegs I'm not Scottish but was thinking earlier how lovely it is that so many have the opportunity to pay their respects throughout the journey through Scotland. I agree that you have done her proud.

murasaki · 12/09/2022 15:34

The harp amd singing is beautiful

bellac11 · 12/09/2022 15:35

Actually forgot to say that this is why I get irritated when people go on about the royal family being German, there is German ancestry of course but she is more Scottish than anything else really, in heritage but also in actions
