I hope Camilla has changed into some flats!

St Paul's or Westminster Abbey, it was a dirge.

I think Viscount Severn is probably a bit too young, although perhaps he'd want to do it if he's the only one not doing otherwise? Unless Sophie stayed with him, although that's probably isn't protocol (it would be lovely though).

The Wessexes used to go around for tea and to watch the telly with the Queen and Prince Philip quite a lot apparently.

He doesn't seem to be very comfortable in public occasions so might not want to. He's closer in age to some of the great grandchildren so might do whatever they are doing, or he could sit with his sister and they all come in the car perhaps. I think the media often forget those two are grandchildren not great grandchildren as even the other day the news was saying that all the grandchildren were at Balmoral, when I don't think he was (not at church anyway). I don't think he boards at school but I guess there must be someone who stays with him - not exactly a nanny but that sort of thing - when his parents are away? Sounds difficult to be sort of in the middle like he is, too young to do what the other grandchildren are doing, not comfortable in public so not really wanting a different role, not one of the great grandchildren who are also closer to the throne. My guess is he'll just be in the car and out of the limelight.

Thanks for recommending Skye news. So much better than bbc on the coverage

JaneJeffer · 12/09/2022 17:36

The only thing about Sky is I wish they'd take down the big banner across the bottom of the screen.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/09/2022 17:36

I'm not sure he was at Balmoral, you're right. Lady Louise was, but then she was only coming from St Andrews. Poor thing, just finishing welcome week and about to start lectures then to be thrown into all this.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/09/2022 17:37

i have seen the twitter video and there is a lot of shouting God save the .... Queen,i think..... that the TV broadcast must have muted!

DriftingDora · 12/09/2022 17:37

Surely his military appointments were removed from him over a year ago? He's presumably no longer entitled to wear uniform anyway.

I don’t think Sophie will walk in the procession. I think Camilla, Kate, Meghan and Sophie are guaranteed to be in cars. Sophie will likely have both her children with her, unless all of the other granddaughters walk and Louise wants to walk with them.

I think a lot will depend on the children as well. I would assume that Peter Philips daughters and Zara’s eldest would attend, but Autumn Philips won’t be with the royal family so in years gone by you’d think Zara would keep Peter’s girls until he arrives. Now though there’s a chance Zara, Beatrice and Eugenie will all want to walk as well.

I wonder if some of the grandchildren will walk on Wednesday from Buckingham Palace to Westminster, but then not on Monday to the abbey as they’ll have their children with them?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 12/09/2022 17:40

Sorry, I was talking about the vigil rather than the walk. But yes, there's a couple of great-grandchildren at an awkward in-between age if they don't have a parent with them.

SoFasrus · 12/09/2022 17:41

Viva the Republic:)

I don’t think there’s any chance of him going to vigil. He’s too young.

I actually wouldn’t be overly surprised if the granddaughter don’t do it either. An hour stood stock still with members of the public filing past will feel like a lifetime.

I think only William, Harry, Peter and Earl Snowdon are guaranteed to do it in London.
previously I would have included the Dukes of Kent and Gloucester and Prince Michael, but age will preclude the two Kents I think.

Yes I felt sorry for her too. A car arrived on Friday night with her in it, so she presumably had stayed for lectures or freshers events those days, all the while knowing what was going on with the family. And trying to fit in at a new place when everyone knows you're royal and you're possibly trying to downplay it, and then this!

bbcdefg · 12/09/2022 17:51

I thought they were only to do 20 mins of a vigil? I didn't think it was an hour?

PizzaFunghi · 12/09/2022 17:57

and she was alone in the car (well with two drivers/protection/whatever in the front seat), which just looked very lonely and awkward, though I suppose she is used to being driven and doesn't worry about what to talk about!! But her parents hadn't come in the car to get her or anything. I know she'll be 18 now but it still looked kind of lonely and I felt for her.

I'm watching it via the little tv at the foot of my bed and have lain a rucksack, sort of sideways, in front of it!

I hope they've sorted out that wrinkle in the royal standard now.

Did Charles really need Sturgeon to recount his mother’s life to him?

He looks utterly exhausted. Fancy having to go straight into this straight after the service. How many times has he had to go the entry of the country in a few days? Poor man. Camilla looks even more done in.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/09/2022 18:05

just rewound to watch the king and queen consort going into scottish parliament, trumpeters all eyes to the left watching them sit down

MrsLargeEmbodied · 12/09/2022 18:06

agree, all very exhausting

SpinCityBlues · 12/09/2022 18:10

It feels really extraordinary living through a history lesson in constitutional succession, starting in Scotland, with all the elements that began so far back in time - some of it is 11th century, a lot of it Tudor and then of course Jacobean. Loving it. We may not see its like again.

I don't know if, when the dust settles, if this 'pomp' will necessarily be good for Charles and William; but it is absolutely fascinating and Scotland has done what I suspect the Queen knew it would - given her a very dignified and comforting send-off, in an kaleidoscope of Scottish images and sounds.

Ive been watching it all day and Im exhausted just from that

They had the thing with the parliament this morning at Westminster Hall, then flew to Scotland, then walked behind the coffin, now is at the Scottish parliament

Is he going to do a vigil after all this too?

Has he even eaten today

Its knackering

lazymum99 · 12/09/2022 18:17

All I can say is what if they need the loo. This ridiculous. How they manage this stuff I don’t know. What strength and energy

OakPine · 12/09/2022 18:18

When they put the Scottish crown on the coffin, I thought - well she was Queen of Great Britain, Northern Ireland, The Commonwealth etc.

But today we said our goodbyes to Elizabeth, Queen of the Scots.

Proud to be Scottish today.

And he's off to Wales and N. Ireland too this week.

This family does, after all, take black clothes with them whenever they go away in case someone dies.

Somebody did die once - the late King, George VI. The Queen needed her black to come down the steps of that aeroplane.

Anne was wearing naval uniform, I think. She did for the QM's funeral.

And I do so agree about James Naughtie, and the woman inside St Giles who talked over the choir at the beginning. I was watching online, and there's no red button. I went over to ITV, which people on Twitter were saying was better.

CPL593H · 12/09/2022 18:23

I really respect Anne for breaking the mould and walking for her grandmother/father and now mother. In her unshowy way she has brought about real change.
