It's his mother's funeral, for Heaven's sake. He should be there. It's the heckler should go.

So sorry @BlodynGwyn

toomuchlaundry · 12/09/2022 16:19

Lovely service (and lovely thread thank you everyone)

NiqueNique · 12/09/2022 16:19

They will be in vigil from 19.20, if I’m not mistaken.

HappyHamsters · 12/09/2022 16:19

BlodynGwyn · 12/09/2022 16:13

The horse wasn't in distress or pain. He did not have a sore moth as someone suggested above. The horse was feeling his oats, chomping at the bit and worked himself into a froth. He was very eager to move faster than that slow walk.

I've owned horses for 53 years and ridden them for 60 yrs.

How do you know what it ate before the procession

So sorry @BlodynGwyn

Got my posts mixed up.

What does high mean?

More elaborate. Our services tend to be more pared back, less or no choral singing, a simpler liturgy. But, yes, compared to Anglican and Roman Catholic services, this is much simpler.

A lovely service.

toomuchlaundry · 12/09/2022 16:21

@HappyHamsters the poster said feeling his oats, not feeding

stillherenow · 12/09/2022 16:22

How long is each soldier on vigil for? I can't imagine anything more boring , and I'd never be absolutely to stand still!

TrueNorthernBird · 12/09/2022 16:23

@HappyHamsters it's a saying, means feeling lively, fed and galvanised.

littlbrowndog · 12/09/2022 16:23

I think they would think it’s a honour to keep watch over her.

I think they would think it’s a honour to keep watch over her.

Indeed, I have a relative who did this for Diana

ApolloandDaphne · 12/09/2022 16:10

I think some of the royal family plan to remain in a vigil for her.

Vigil of the princes as for George V (his four Sons, Edward VIII, George VI, Duke of Kent and Duke of Gloucester) and Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (her four grandsons, Princes Charles, Andrew and Edward, and Viscount Linley)

A shift will be done by the four children, then two shifts of the grandchildren.

First time women have been involved.

JustLyra · 12/09/2022 16:25

Mooserp · 12/09/2022 16:18

No, sorry that's not correct. Public viewings are from 5pm

The public passing doesn’t stop for the Prince’s Vigil usually so it may very well be 5pm

NiqueNique · 12/09/2022 16:27

Interesting little fact: James Blunt was one of the soldiers who stood guard for the Queen Mother’s coffin.

I don’t know how long the soldiers’ shifts will be but members of the royal family will stand for about an hour this evening, I think.

JustLyra · 12/09/2022 16:28

A shift will be done by the four children, then two shifts of the grandchildren.

if all 7 of her older grandchildren do it (I don’t think Sophie and Edward will allow James to - he’s too young) I wouldn’t be surprised to see her nephew do it as well.

TooHot2022 · 12/09/2022 16:31

I still can't quite believe that our King is allowed to walk such a great length in public, with relatively little protection? Surely security can't have checked every building/ rooftop etc?

NiqueNique · 12/09/2022 16:35

There are hundreds of police officers/plainclothes too, in the crowd. Armed officers and security personnel. There will also likely have been snipers on rooftops/watching from inside buildings en route.

Mooserp · 12/09/2022 16:36

It would be fascinating to see what goes on behind the scenes

emmathedilemma · 12/09/2022 16:36

@NiqueNique plenty of snipers on the roofs for the cortege yesterday so I'd assume similar today

NiqueNique · 12/09/2022 16:37

Yes - no chances will have been taken.

Piccalino3 · 12/09/2022 16:38

The service and procession was so beautiful. I'm so glad she passed in Scotland, it's been absolutely lovely to see it in all it's glory and the service seemed so gentle and intimate. Thank you for this thread.

mawbroon · 12/09/2022 16:39

@MaggieFS
I don't know about the driver, but the other man in the hearse is a local undertaker.

milveycrohn · 12/09/2022 16:40

It is usually only the men who walk behind the coffin. P. Anne first insisted for the Queen Mother funeral, and then for P. Philip, and is usually in her military uniform of whichever regiment she is head of. I think this may also apply to when they do the vigil.
Currently, I am wondering whether Viscount Severn (P. Edward's son), will be at the funeral, and / or walk behind. He will be about 15 years old, I think.
Generally, children at Royal Funerals (aka State Funerals) do not take part, so should be there at 15, though not necessarily walking behind.

Thank you all for such a respectful and measured thread. It has been a pleasure.

Indeed.
