The royal family

When do we think the King's Coronation will be?

It took 16 months to plan EIIR's Coronation, but I should think they could do it more quickly these days with improvements in technology. And Charles will have had a long time to think about what he wants! I would guess next June.

I think you're right, if they did the Coronation via, say, Zoom or Microsoft Teams, that could knock the whole thing out in a couple of days.
For those who are busy shopping or fishing they could download the thing to one of those memory stick things to watch later over a curry and a couple of beers. Plus a great present for the grand kids memory box.

@MinglingFlamingo , if they had it in half term, schools would just have another day off at some other time, like they did this year for the Jubilee.

My school didn't !! 😥
I'm staff not a pupil by the way

They won't wait too long, the sooner they can hold the coronation the more of the popular momentum for the monarchy/pomp and circumstance they can maintain from his mother's popularity.

My guess is they'll aim for an existing bank holiday and aim to tag one day on, probably the Friday. The late May/Whitsun bank holiday looks the best option.

They were supposed to, most state schools at least. Doesn't your school follow STPCD and the 190 teaching days (amended to 189 last year, agreed with unions and the DofE). If your school is a state school, and they follow those contractual terms (some Academies don't, but most do), then your school is in breach of contract. You could speak to your Union, and collectively insist it's included this year, or that you're all paid for an extra day. If you're not a teacher though, I've no idea if that's the case for other staff I'm afraid.

Sorry, that was to @Lulu1919

Queen Victoria died in January, Edward VII crowned in August of the following year
Edward VII died in May, George V crowned in June of the following year
George V died in January, Edward VIII never crowned

and then when George VI died as mentioned the coronation was over a year later - so there is definitely precedent for it being over a year later, but I would hope Charles would want to get it done in about May of next year?

Apparently the delay in the Queen's Coronation was due to the amount of work that was necessary to accommodate television cameras within Westminster Abbey.

They're mid-70's, I can't see them hanging around for a year.

Really Lulu? That’s the first school I’ve heard of that didn’t. Doesn’t seem fair for you.

i dont think he would want the same date as his mother
i am going late june

Camilla's birthday is 17 July - could be a 'wild card' option? Enough space either side to avoid Diana's birthday or the anniversary of his wedding to Diana.

14-16 months.

Discodreams · 11/09/2022 23:35

Early February. Give us something to look forward to during the dreary winter.
although I think the May.June guesses are slightly more likely

RedToothBrush · 11/09/2022 23:45

Last week in May /First week in June. Another double Bank Holiday cos it works quite well. Not too hot. Not too cold.

Nat6999 · 11/09/2022 23:47

I think spring Bank Holiday next year, fit in with the bank Holidays like the Jubilee did this year.

No way would they pick Camilla's birthday. Given the lingering negative feelings towards her in some quarters, they are not going to go out of their way to emphasize the "Camilla!" factor in the proceedings.

14-16 months.

That would place it Nov-Jan. Can't see them planning it for late autumn / winter.

we are not economically stable though so perhaps august - sept
