King Prince Charles

I'm finding it so strange to say King Charles, it feels like I'm talking about a fictional character.

I keep saying saying, now that Prince Charles is King, instead of just saying King Charles.

Is anyone having the same issue?

It sounds odd, like it’s referring to a previous King Charles, rather than the current monarch!

Wait until you hear the phrase (obviously not connected to King Charles) “The King Father” instead of “The Queen Mother”.

Whilst technically not a real King Father (in regards to what Brits would call a Queen Mother), in Cambodia, The King abdicated in favour of his son so he is called “The King Father” it blew my mind. That was years ago so maybe The King Father is no longer alive?

Also maybe that is just me being an Australian with very little knowledge of any other monarchy other than the UK one?

Eventually we will just refer to him as "the king" though won't we? I mean, we just called the queen "the queen", we didn't always say Queen Elizabeth.

I just read KC3 and thought "pfft, why in earth are you doing that, it looks ridiculous, please write it properly" and then I realised QE2 was always perfectly acceptable. Mind blown.

Yes, everything will settle down and he'll be "the King" in general conversation.

It feels almost disrespectful to the queen to call him king. Like we've replaced and forgotten her. Butshe went through the same with her father so I guess she'd understand.

When I try to say King Charles or the King it somehow feels pompous or pretentious, so I'm just calling him Charles now! I'm sure it will become normal in relatively short order.

Yea I've seen KC3 a times and kept thinking someone has mistakes KS3.

(I work in education)

Then I realise it's the king and just QE2 in its now form.

I'm not sure if going on a cruise though "I'm going on the KC3" has quite the same ring to it!
