The DCMS estimated the full financial impact factoring in the additional bank holiday at -£2.39billion:

Those figures are taken from the DCMS’s impact assessment (it’s published - you can read it, although it’s written by economists for economists!) which looked at whether an extra bank holiday should be recommended.

Of course there was an economic impact of the event as an additional day’s holiday across the board lowers productivity in the economy. But the the same impact assessment which predicted those figures (which calculated the net present value of the impact of the bank holidays for the previous jubilees) also found that the uptick in the GDP that occurred as a result of the holiday meant they were overall beneficial to the economy.

Ok, How much are you worth? If She pays that much in tax. What does she make? Pay the tax and earn the money

I have. There are now various impinging factors that weren't an issue ten or twenty years ago - Covid related impacts and escalating living costs being two. They just seem to be hoping for the best.

The 2012 jubilee was very closely followed by the staging of the London Olympics which skewed the figures. The 2002 jubilee is too far distant to be a reliable indicator for today.

The Guardian link doesn't work...

Surely any tank we pay would be better spent on schools - every year. Imagine every school in the UK getting an up-lift in the next 10 years. ALL children in this country deserve an education similar to those attending private school There is no excuse!

Schools spending is about £40bil, defence £48bil and NHS £190bil

The cost of the Royal family wouldn't make any noticeable difference to budgets of that scale (it's less than the permitted margins for rounding in the accounts)

What I've not been able to find out is what the Prime Minister costs, not just his salary (published) but the total for staff (inc employers NICs, superannuation etc) and the two official residences (upkeep, utilities, gardening - and wallpaper), travel, security, official entertainment, other expenses

@catinboots123 or even better, let us each take our personal contributions to the royal family, the nhs and social care, and let us individually decide how much to give to each. brilliant!

This an old thread.

For the umteenth time - the 'royals' do NOT own the crown estates.
They are public property and will revert 100% to the public once the Windsors are gone

I agree the name is confusing - deliberately so probably .
It's designed to give the impression that Charles is generously giving us his money! It's clearly worked on some.
It belongs to us.
'Royals' do not manage it or own it

They take a cut. And have a clause that the cut they take can NEVER be reduced .
