Andrew returning to public life

"Prince Andrew — who recently paid a multimillion-pound settlement to Virginia Giuffre to keep her allegations of sexual abuse, which he denies, out of court — is set to make a controversial return to public life on Monday.

As a member of the Order of the Garter, this country’s oldest and most senior order of chivalry, Andrew, 62, will appear alongside senior members of the royal family at the Garter Day service at Windsor Castle."

Queen Victoria was rarely seen after Albert died. These days the public would be baying outside the Palace and she'd be ripped to shreds in the Press.

From reading about that time, I understood that her popularity took a big dip because of that and was only restored after a long time (helped by her jubilees).
If there had been social media then, maybe there would have demonstrations outside the palace, especially if the press was less deferential too, as it is these days.

Rousette - That is just your opinion of what you think they do or don't do. It isn't fact.

None of us really know what they do on a daily basis because we're not part of their lives. We can only make assumptions.

I agree however anything to do with W and C is wrong in some posters eyes while the saintly M and H milk their Royal connections for all they are worth !
Someone up thread alluded to affairs being hushed up which I assume is to do with the totally unproven affair between W and Rose whatshername ? Yet no one on here is talking about the photo of H at polo ? Strange that .

Happy to be proven otherwise but doubt it will happen. Why employ huge numbers of aides, PR, Press Secretaries, Communications people etc... and do it all yourself? Hardly likely.

I have had to prepare a briefing document and suggested speech for a visiting dignatory. I am sure if they wanted to the royals can change their suggested speeches, but why would they unless it is something they personally have an opinion on.
I thought the Queen was thought very clever for having a range of general questions she can use on any visit anywhere? So she may read her briefing, but lets not pretend the Royals are asking detailed insightful questions except perhaps on their pet topics e.g. Charles and architecture.

Yes. And it's "and so what do you do? type of question. Open ended. Let's the receiver of the question waffle a bit. Move on to next person.

Thing is William is having to step up already in a big way.

A quick look at the Court Circular will show this simply isn't the case.

Listed 'engagements' can and do consist of as little as a morning telephone call or Zoom meeting leaving lots of lovely free time to do exactly as he pleases.

CathyorClaire · 15/06/2022 11:07

And I see S is bigging up A again

Nothing like a desperate freeloader whose gravy train is coming off the tracks.

Of course she's bigging him up. She'd probably be bankrupt without us bankrolling her and her living in 96acre Royal Lodge. I think we forget she's divorced, we have no obligation, but it's Andrew so there you go
She knows which side her bread's buttered. It's very predictable.

I think the way that the Yorks (S, B and E) gush over each other on their social media is quite revealing of how B and E were raised. I've seen some of their messages in the press, and they often say something about one of them 'deserving' something (with full gush).

And I see S is bigging up A again:

Such a weird family.

She has built 150+ schools in Africa? With her bare hands? With Epsteins money? With the profits of her weird books? By flogging crap on EBay?

I think we need to know more.

JemimaPuddlegoose · 15/06/2022 12:10

There is absolutely no room for an off day

Except when they go days or weeks without an engagement.

Also, attending functions like film premiers is far from enjoyable in the sense we might imagine.

I attend film premieres a lot for my job. It's really not like that. Having to pose on the red carpet for 5 minutes before partying in private with celebs is really not onerous. Besides Will and Kate are pretty good at avoiding the events they don't want to do; they go to Wimbledon and movie premieres because they love tennis and being around celebs; if they didn't, they simply would avoid those events the way they avoid other events they have a much higher obligation to attend.

There's really no reason why William and Kate should attend the premiere of some big American film, when they are not patrons and have no real links to those events. The fact they choose to prioritise movie premieres over attending events of organisations they're president or patron of shows that apart from the big mandatory events they largely pick and choose based on what they enjoy or think will be good media coverage.

Yeah I saw that polo story, @Raspberryjam22 and thought it was one of those massive tabloidy hints that they were 'close' without actually saying so. I can't really see H straying so publicly myself; but maybe I'm very naive.

I've missed this completely.
Tried Googling and saw that Harry'd fallen off his horse but nothing else.
Can anybody point me in the direction of the scurrilous gossip, please?
I feel out of the loop.

None of us really know what they do on a daily basis because we're not part of their lives. We can only make assumptions.

We can also read books written by those who've met the royals, travel, access a wide range of media, compare historical and modern sources and then engage our critical thinking skills. Or not.

Vapeyvapevape · 15/06/2022 14:38

Ooh I missed the polo story too - has anyone got a link please?

TequilaSunriseforme · 15/06/2022 14:44

Not heard this polo story either!

queenofarles · 15/06/2022 14:47

I’m sure it’s nothing, just a harmless picture picture of him with another married woman, but just wanted to point out the double standards often found here.

antelopevalley · 15/06/2022 14:52

Can you provide a link? I have been on Twitter and can not find this photo.

antelopevalley · 15/06/2022 14:57

The ONLY photo on Twitter I can find with a woman and Harry is one of Harry and his polo team holding a cup as a team and there is Meghan and a little girl referred to as "another pretty woman". It is a strange tweet. Is that what people are referring to?
But the only woman there is Meghan.

antelopevalley I really dont want to , soz!
but believe me, I’m pretty sure it’s nothing and platonic , I’m being truthful here.

Strange you will not post a link to a photo that you say is all over Twitter and that I can not find.
