The Queen is famously diplomatic and is used to talking politely about all sorts of random topics with the people she meets. I would love to know whether she will ask Meghan how her father is, or just ignore the subject. What would you do, if you were the Queen?

I don’t particularly care, I just like working out what I would do in similar circumstances. Which could easily arise in even non-royal families.

The champagne for everyone does sound like a good idea.

Why would theQueen ask Meghan that? She knows that Meghan is estranged from her father so it would be a very crass question! The Queen is probably the most polite person (and usually very considerate too) in the land, so no she woud not ask her that!

However, if it wasn't such a flying visit, and when the Queen is going to be exceptionally busy (or shattered, so resting), she might discuss the situation with Meghan and Harry, whilst making sympathetic noises. Although I think it is much more likely that the Queen will talk to Charles about it, and ask him how things are.

I know I'm juvenile, but I love the thought of the Queen having a snide dig. Most amusing.

Well, OP, if you had a friend or relative whom you knew to be estranged from their father, would you ask them how he was doing?

Come on; whatever else the Queen might be, she's of at least average intelligence and well trained in the arts of tact, diplomacy and social restraint.

Why would she ask her that? My MIL doesn't ask how my parents are when I see her. Can't say it's a question I ask people either.

I assume the Queen has considerably more empathy than you OP, so will know not to ask. I'm NC with my mother and I feel a kick in the guts and a little bit sick, and then just a bit down for the rest of the day if I'm asked about her or pushed to talk about her. Going NC isn't just a whim, it's the culmination of years of hurt.

I think that she will more likely be concentrating on staying alive for at least the next four days!
