This seems to be the most tone deaf and damaging decision. It's a public facing event with international leaders and royals. If it was a closed family gathering I could understand it - he is her son still- but why on earth would they allow him to escort her to her seat?! He should be invisible from now on and never represent the RF again. He could have attended and stood somewhere out of the way. She could have chosen anyone to escort her. It's staggeringly awful!

@EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall

She's as much a fool as the rest of them . Her husband? I'd be even more shocked if he escorted her anywhere
Phillip went everywhere with her when he was alive, excluding standing for a whole event in the rain when just out of hospital…
GrimDamnFanjo · 29/03/2022 18:49

HMQ doesn't care about the optics here.
What can any of us do?
Never complain, never explain. She can do as she likes - to be honest they all can. There's not going to be a revolution any time soon.

She's going to do the same she did when Diana died ... Alienate the public

People aren’t going to go after her in the way they did then.

She’s old and very frail. More people are talking about that, about the children all being there and about Beatrice crying than they are Andrew being there from what I can see.

The papers went for her when Diana died, which is what made the public turn. They aren’t going to do that just now.

Saffy321 · 29/03/2022 18:51

The photo had been handed over to the FBI

Alliswells · 29/03/2022 18:52

@FairyCakeWings

If you were a victim of abuse, how would you feel watching it?

Personally, I feel my abuse is irrelevant to this situation. Considering how many women have been the victim of some kind of sexual assault or abuse, and that opinion seems to very divided on this, I’d guess that some other women also feel that their abuse is irrelevant too.

It was Prince Phillips memorial service, so Prince Philips family all being there together is far more important than some strangers who might watch it on telly.

It was a public and televised service. Broadcast for the world to see. Despite being involved with convicted paedophiles, sex traffickers, sex abusers and being accused of dispicable sexual behaviour, Andrew remains certainly very much senior and the queen has totally gave every one a huge middle finger. She's a sharp lady. She knows exactly the message she was giving today.
SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 29/03/2022 18:58

If you were accused of something would you wish to be tried by media or by the court? I know which I’d prefer.

But he didn't go to court. He avoided court. To the tune of £12 million.

Blossomtoes · 29/03/2022 18:59

equally he might well not have been able to fly decoy helicopters over the Fleet in the Falklands - an act of courage which most of his detractors would never be capable of doing

An act of courage which he didn’t perform. He flew one flight a day on which he was covered at all times. He was despised by all the men he served with.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 29/03/2022 19:02

Thjey chose to settle t ta strategically sound moment when it was clear that the Claimant was unable to produce the original of the photograph which has been so much reproduced. there has bene littlle ... Whether the claim against Prince Andrew was true or not I have no idea and the settlement only tells me, as a lawyer ...

You're a lawyer?

That's not a protected title, is it?

DisforDarkChocolate · 29/03/2022 19:03

@DingleyDel

She clearly doesn’t care. I think it’s sending a message that she still stands by him. Unfortunately I’ve lost all respect I had for the Queen after this whole debacle.
Me too.
upinaballoon · 29/03/2022 19:11

@carefullycourageous

Yes this was a very bad look and I was surprised.

But if you have been installed by God to rule over the plebs you can do no wrong, so who am I to judge?

Do you know any more about this God who 'installs' people to 'rule over the plebs'? Where did you get your information about this God? Are you sure that He tells monarchs that they can do no wrong?
EdithWeston · 29/03/2022 19:14

The God stuff a bad misunderstanding of the Divine Right of Kings (which of course ended a few centuries ago anyhow)

SaintJavelin · 29/03/2022 19:19

I have lost any sympathy that I had for the Queen now.

crochetmonkey74 · 29/03/2022 19:21

@thereisonlyoneofme

For gods sake, theres no let up in the nastiness
I agree. No let up in Andrews nastiness and the tacit approval of it
pinkBamboo · 29/03/2022 19:21

I don't think anyone can begrudge her of having who she wanted by her side after all her years of service

FFS. Her husbands memorial & she's entitled to have who she wants with her.

ittakes2 · 29/03/2022 19:29

It was jarring - but then I remembered this woman has spent most of her life making personal decisions and sacrifices for the sake of the crown and she’s mourning the loss of her husband - I don’t have the energy to judge someone’s decisions made in their grief.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 29/03/2022 19:30

Are we allowed to refer to Andrew as a convicted paedophile's friend?

'Head of State HMQ FD the Queen escorted by convicted paedophile's friend to internationally televised church service' is a bit different from 'old woman goes to private memorial with son for his dead dad'.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/03/2022 19:30

I can understand why he wanted to go to his father’s memorial service, but it would have been better for someone else to escort HM in, and for him to slip in quietly, out of the public eye as much as possible.

Twizbe · 29/03/2022 19:30

@Blossomtoes oh wow. I don't live there anymore but my parents do.

At Xmas we had a family lunch at the Golden Lion and were laughing about how the town's Xmas tree was placed right under his nose.

KatsuKatsu · 29/03/2022 19:30

Thing is that's her son and she might not be able to walk around and do these things much longer. She can hate the sin but love the sinner.

That is so not true, it's slanderous. I know that for a fact. He was highly regarded by his fellow servicemen/people.

Honestly, as if there isn't enough nasty stuff written about the prince already.
...............................

As for the Queen dishing out £12m, there is no proof of that, it is just hearsay from dubious 'sources'. So what if she did anyway, she is one of the richest people in the world but, still, £12m is a heck of a lot money. It doesn't ring true to me.

Why can't people give it a rest?

It was a very low key, pleasant service which didn't last long enough to be boring and the Queen looked pretty good for her age.

As that is what he’d have been advised to do.

There we go. Never had a comment deleted before. But hey, you fixed it. Andrew is a friend of a convicted paedophile.
