Prince Andrew and his 60 teddy bears

This is such a strange story. Why would a grown man behave like this? It sounds more like the actions of a small child.

"Prince Andrew had a bed piled high with stuffed animals and toys and would "shout and scream" if any of the royal servants knocked them out of place, a former royal cop has claimed...

Speaking about the cuddly toy collection, Page revealed that he and the other security officers were shown a laminated picture of the 50 or 60 stuffed toys positioned on the bed.

He added: “The reason for the laminated picture was if those bears weren’t put back in the right order by the maids, he would shout and scream.”

Oh yes, because that story has come from a really reliable source hasn't it? Must be true! 🤔

AllThePogs · 17/01/2022 16:27

If it isnt true, why would the Palace not sue and get it taken down? They intervene all the time after all.

Why would they want to sue? They probably have a good laugh over some of the more ridiculous stuff written about them. That's if they even know about it, my guess is they probably don't. Can't see any of the royals reading the red top papers.

AllThePogs · 17/01/2022 16:41

Of course their PR company is aware of all the press stories - that is part of their job. They are doing nothing because this is true and they know it tarnishes Andrews reputation even more. So better to ignore it and hope that not many people read about it.

My mother was a member of the Royal Household's staff when Andrew was a boy. Aged 12-14.
He would scream and rant at the staff then, regularly. She says she regularly saw him as a spoilt, vindictive boy ranting and raving at grown men, who couldn't answer him back.
(Mum says Edward was a darling boy.)

LittleBearPad · 17/01/2022 16:46

It’s perfectly believable. Andrew is well-known to be spoiled and stupid.

It is nice to know that one of them was lovely.

I remember a newspaper giving column inches to a woman who thought that aliens had turned her child into a fish finger. I can't remember if they conducted tests in the end but I always assumed it was discovered the child wasn't, in fact, a breaded haddock piece.

The press don't always tell the truth.

I suppose we are being lead down a path of believing this is his bed or something. Sounds like a load of old nonsense to me

abbey44 · 17/01/2022 16:54

I met Prince Andrew at a party once (a perfectly proper one, before you wonder...) and he seemed to be a thoroughly obnoxious individual - arrogant, oafish and entitled - so I have absolutely no difficulty in believing this story. As well as being completely gobsmacked at a 60-something man behaving like a petulant three-year-old.

IGotHam · 17/01/2022 17:17

It wouldn't surprise me if it's true. A few years ago it was widely reported in the press that arriving home at Windsor one day in his Range Rover he found the gates locked. Instead of use an alternative gate one mile up the road he instead rammed the gate open with his car causing thousands of pounds worth of damage. So this is the type of man he is. Impulsive and entitled with a very short temper.

BeMoreGoldfish · 17/01/2022 17:19

Yep another one not surprised. He has always had a reputation for being thoroughly vile so this story comes as no surprise at all.

Bring a child up to believe they’re god’s gift (which is literally what the RF think they are!) and you reap what you sow 🤷‍♀️.

ClariceQuiff · 17/01/2022 17:23

Princess Diana had a pile of cuddly toys in her KP apartment - there's a photo of them in one of Paul Burrell's books. He said they were dusted regularly. Perhaps it's an upper-class/Royal thing to keep all your childhood toys?

Shmippy · 17/01/2022 17:24

Sebastian Flyte without the charm or good looks.

tara66 · 17/01/2022 17:32

Hubris + stupidity = Andrew.

LynetteScavo · 17/01/2022 17:35

Surely Paul Page signed a non disclosure agreement, so will now have to deal with the consequences of contravening it?

nottodaybatman · 17/01/2022 17:45

Didn't Jason Knauf sign an NDA too?

Yes, but I can't really see her flying off the handle if the toys were mistakenly put back in the 'wrong' order.

I do think teddy bears for adults are an upper-class thing. A very dear friend who came from a very privileged background, but very modest and unassuming (and lived in a council flat in Southwark !) had 2 teddy bears which went everywhere with her, even at the age of 40. She saw nothing wrong with it.

AllThePogs · 17/01/2022 21:43

It suggests a lack of attachment to parents.

oh god!! don't believe all you read! now you are analysing him based on an ex cops say so....who has himself served a prison sentence for fraud!!
SilkLabrador · 17/01/2022 22:17

Because when you google PA in the news it's better to have an article about teddy bears than it is about having sex with a teenager.

converseandjeans · 17/01/2022 22:31

That's interesting. What was Charles like I wonder?

Edward was lovely, charming and excellent manners - used to visit the Really Useful Theatre Company for work sometimes around the time he worked there, and should I ever bump into Edward he was charming and very polite.
Wheresmywoolyjumpers · 17/01/2022 22:41

Went to uni with a lot of public school kids who had their childhood teddies. They took them to boarding school with them and think it was quite common. Never met anyone with 60 though.

re: the temper tantrums. Apparently Charles is also prone to hissy fits when things are not just so.
