Prince Andrew and his 60 teddy bears

This is such a strange story. Why would a grown man behave like this? It sounds more like the actions of a small child.

"Prince Andrew had a bed piled high with stuffed animals and toys and would "shout and scream" if any of the royal servants knocked them out of place, a former royal cop has claimed...

Speaking about the cuddly toy collection, Page revealed that he and the other security officers were shown a laminated picture of the 50 or 60 stuffed toys positioned on the bed.

He added: “The reason for the laminated picture was if those bears weren’t put back in the right order by the maids, he would shout and scream.”

There used to be a teddy bear shop on Eton high street. Very close to Eton school and Windsor castle. Must have been the demand!

UnicornsReal · 20/01/2022 09:38

How revolting.

UnicornsReal · 20/01/2022 09:39

I should say that I know someone who was a theatrical agent, very well known when he was younger. She knows for a fact multiple affairs went on , many of them actresses.

UnicornsReal · 20/01/2022 09:41

Philip was in thrall to the Earl of Mountbatten who had dubious morals to say the least.

None of this surprises me, aristocracy and royals have always done things in ways we should consider weird or strange.

I think there is no place for them anymore or certainly not in their current iteration.

Dinglydell - I didn't watch the documentary but did Elizabeth Day actually state that she had been in his bedroom and seen the bears, I would be surprised if that were true. I read an article by her written in 2019 where she stated that she had interviewed him ten years previously at his office at Buckingham palace. She said that whilst she was waiting for him there was an enormous bear outside his office. She asked him about it and he said that it was a present on his wedding day from Sarah Ferguson who had it placed in their going away carriage (can be seen in wedding photos) as a surprise for him. Elizabeth Day said he was amused by this.

Whilst I have no sympathy for Prince Andrew it does annoy me when the media twist the truth to suit their own narrative.

Unfortunately, I can never think of Prince Edward without remembering the front page photo of him beating his Labrador with a stick.

If the link doesn't work, it's on Google.

It looks as if he is knighting the dog!

(Another report seems to disagree about whether there was any beating with the stick - or any cruelty. )*

I don't think you can infer anything from that picture. It looks as if there is another dog at his feet - maybe he was making the Labrador keep its distance?

I have a boisterous young cocker spaniel and use a hiking stick out on walks. When he is pulling hard I wave the stick in front of his nose to remind him to back off. Depending on the angle of the photo it would definitely look like I'm whacking him.
Also there is someone I meet on walks sometimes who has a pack of eight spaniels, never on a lead, they generally behave well but the leader of the pack doesn't like my upstart dog and goes for him. Last time we met I saw them coming, backed into the hedge with my dog in a lead and when the aggressive dog approached I waved my stick in a protective circle around my dog to keep it back. It backed off nicely. No contact with my stick. No complaints from the owner. But it would probably look bad in a photo.

Another story about prince Andrew being a nasty brat in the news today! No wonder they make staff sign NDA’s! Id say there are some stories of bad manners from them all given how entitled they are!

Cherriesarethebest · 24/01/2022 20:27

He's a classic case of arrested development!
Always to be found clinging to mummy's apron strings. She must be so proud of her boy!

UnicornsReal · 24/01/2022 22:40

He really is a disgusting man.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 12/06/2022 23:19

He's a thug underneath his posey exterior. Not very bright, totally up himself and a greedy thief.

What Sarah Ferguson saw in him is anybody's guess.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 12/06/2022 23:30

The story of his tantrums over his bed full of Teddy bears has been around for years

antelopevalley · 15/06/2022 10:07

@Mamamia7962 Yes she had seen the bedroom. I do not think this is a media made-up story. It has been in too many decent media sources not to be true.

antelopevalley · 15/06/2022 10:09

@mudd why would you wave a stick in front of the nose of a boisterous dog! Would you do the same to your children?
There is no need to threaten any dog with a stick to get it to behave.

sunshinesupermum · 15/06/2022 10:10

My other half collects soft toys - we think he has about 120 in total. He's 71 and definitely not upper class lol

Georgeskitchen · 15/06/2022 10:57

There have been many stories over the years about Andrew being an obnoxious brat. They can't all be lying!!
My favourite royal is Princess Anne, takes shit from nobody and even scared off her kidnappers!!

antelopevalley · 15/06/2022 11:10

We are supposed to believe that every single person who has spoken to the press and said that Andrew is an obnoxious brat, is lying. Even though the stories have come from a wide variety of sources.
Personally I believe that he is an obnoxious brat.

Blusteryday101 · 15/06/2022 11:13

Entitlement and stupidity is a hideous combination.

Blusteryday101 · 15/06/2022 11:26

Two fairly senior civil servants certainly thought he was boorish:

www.bbc.com/news/uk-12663378

I particularly like this quote:

Following the Wikileaks revelations, Simon Wilson - Britain's deputy head of mission in Bahrain from 2001 to 2005 - wrote in the Daily Mail that Prince Andrew was "more commonly known among the British diplomatic community in the Gulf as HBH: His Buffoon Highness".

ginandbearit · 15/06/2022 11:28

I bet his alleged wish to be reinstated as Colonel of the Grenadier Guards will have gone down well in their barracks...mass resignations at the least if so !

CathyorClaire · 15/06/2022 20:29

What Sarah Ferguson saw in him is anybody's guess

Meal ticket for life and she's been proved right.
