Will RF Self Isolate before Christmas Day?

The Christmas Day celebrations are planned to go ahead as normal with various RF members joining the Queen for the day's celebrations. I am sure she will want to see them. But bearing in mind her age, do you think the RF members will self-isolate to protect her during this visit?

I would be very surprised if they didn't. Let's face it, any of us with a relative that old would be taking precautions right now (unless you were a covid denier)

ThisMustBeMyDream · 13/12/2021 23:49

Well, I'm sure none of them want to be the person who "killed the Queen". So I'd assume there were precautions in place. The private schools will have finished for Christmas, and with working from home rules... well, I think they will probably be well cocooned from the outside germs.

julieca · 13/12/2021 23:52

I do hope they do. Because this new variant seems very infectious, and the Queen will be vulnerable to it.

@ThisMustBeMyDream it is working from home if you can. Some engagements may be able to be carried out via video link, but I don't know if they all can.

Of course they will. They are rich enough to be able to keep themselves and their family safe by self isolating in the run up to Christmas, unlike us plebs.

Sycamoretrees · 14/12/2021 00:23

I expect the palaces have good ventilation aka drafts Grin

julieca · 14/12/2021 00:26

Not sure I would want to rely on drafts to keep the Queen safe.

I would think all of their staff will have to isolate before and during too. Unless the RF decide to just give everyone the fortnight off and muck in together.

julieca · 14/12/2021 00:30

Didn't a lot of the staff refuse to isolate last Christmas away from their own families? I seem to remember news stories at the time about it.

She’ll have had her booster by now.

julieca · 14/12/2021 00:43

Yes which offers 75% protection.

Silverswirl · 14/12/2021 01:05

I would think they are isolating and also will be doing a pcr very close to getting together which will of course be returned very quickly

julieca · 14/12/2021 11:46

Yes true, they won't have to wait a bit for the results.

I know last year the Queen wanted staff to self isolate from their families so the Queen could have a big family Christmas. But the staff refused and they ended up having the day with just her and Philip. I wonder if this year all the RF will come or some will stay away again?

Good for the staff to stand up and say no!

Bit previous of the Queen to expect her staff to stay away from families after the terrible yrs we have had.

Would it kill them if they had to cook their own food or gasp make there own drinks, have to wipe a table clean or even clean their toilets etc for a few days.
Like its absolutely ridiculous to think they cant even manage that!

smilesy · 15/12/2021 16:32

Why would anyone have to self isolate unless they have tested positive? They are very probably all triple jabbed and they can take lateral flows or even PCR tests before they go anywhere near the Queen.
I’m at a bit of a loss as to what could be discussed about this subject. What is this thread even for 🤷‍♀️

anniegun · 15/12/2021 16:37

I think Prince Andrew has been self isolating for a while now

smilesy · 15/12/2021 16:50

😂

julieca · 15/12/2021 17:10

@Dreamstate They don't even need to do that. TBH I don't expect the Queen to clean her own toilets. But the big traditional family Christmas they wanted last year would have involved a lot of staff. So no wonder they didn't want to work and not see their own families at all over the Christmas period.

@smilesy If they are not going to self isolate, then they could put the Queen in danger. We have just decided not to spend Christmas with my very vulnerable mum because if we passed on covid to them, she would probably die. She is expected to live for quite a few years yet, but with the temporary medication she is on it destroys her immune system.

OP posts:
smilesy · 15/12/2021 17:18

Sorry to hear your mum is vulnerable, but who says the Queen is immunocompromised? If people test regularly before coming in to contact with someone vulnerable and test negative, why do they need to self isolate? That is not a current requirement.

julieca · 15/12/2021 17:22

She is 95 years old. As you get much older your immune system stops working as well.
No it is not a requirement. But if I was visiting a close 95-year-old relative and spending all day inside with them, I would self isolate beforehand. I wouldn't have even a few months ago, but around Christmas looks like the peak of this new variant. The risks are too high.

OP posts:
smilesy · 15/12/2021 17:28

That is your choice, but the Queen’s doctors may decide that is not necessary if people are testing regularly. My husband has a neurological condition, but as we are all triple jabbed and have lateral flow tests available, we will not require family to self isolate and will not regard them as selfish or as putting him in danger.

julieca · 15/12/2021 17:30

I understand that smilesy. I also have a serious chronic condition myself, have a booster and know that covid is unlikely to kill me.

I hope the Queen will be okay then. Although if she did die of covid they probably wouldn't tell us.

OP posts:
smilesy · 15/12/2021 17:31

And I still can’t see the point of this thread unless it is to stir up people to say that those around the Queen should be isolating. But we won’t know if they do anyway so why is it even a subject for discussion in regard to the Queen?

julieca · 15/12/2021 17:38

Oh God Smilesy, are you determined to have a go!
It is just an idle chat about the Queen and her Christmas. I am not writing a newspaper headline or giving a talk, just chatting.
