Did anyone watch this last night? About William and Harry and their different approaches to the press. Last night was part 1 of 2.

Bit pointless really, when it's considered what happened the last time the lawyer insisted something was false on her behalf ..

No more/less pointless than the reporters making the accusations though is it? Or were you expecting them to make their accusation there, without challenge?

derxa · 24/11/2021 16:03

,

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/11/2021 16:09

were you expecting (the reporters) to make their accusation there, without challenge?

Absolutely not; in fact as I mentioned upthread, I disliked the presenter's style precisely because I thought he should have gone in a lot harder with the questions

I did have to smile, though, when one of them mentioned getting it in writing that the investigators "wouldn't do anything illegal" ... otherwise known as cover your arse, ready for when the wheels fall off, or just plain "Not me guv"

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/11/2021 16:18

A lawyer representing M on the same show as gossipy Scobie etc when their job is to present actual facts in court. Just seems bit tacky really

I agree, JaniieJones, but then the whole thing's tacky, including having a RF who carry on like something off a third rate soap

Not being a lawyer I don't really know how far they'll go for their paying clients, but as said I was a bit surprised they were quite so vocal with the denials after what happened last time ... though of course there'd be a difference between misrepresenting something to a court and doing it on some TV show

rubicscubicle · 24/11/2021 16:38

A bit of a difference between sending work emails early in the morning and that is construed as bullying, and giving your comms background as they do with everyone, and that being seen as collaboration.

Agree.

shamalidacdak · 24/11/2021 17:05

Whatever happened with the bullying investigation ? Did it ever happen or is it pending?

julieca · 24/11/2021 17:19

@dropitlikeitsloth

who had hacked into Chelsy Davy's phone and gone through her medical records looking to see if she'd had any abortions or STIs was just horrifying. So violating.

I’m going to come across stupids here I know… How do journalists get access to peoples medical records?! Isn’t that a breach of data protection? How are they getting them? Are they saying they hacked her surgery? I’m so confused! Hacking someone’s phone can’t get their medical records, or was she still logged in to her surgery online?

It did not say, but maybe she was still logged in? I know they said at the time of the phone-hacking scandal that journalists hacked into voicemails because most people did not change the default code including some RF members and celebrities. I assume they would now though. So maybe she wasn't savvy enough security-wise to realise she should log out?

I thought that the statement about it said it would be done privately, so I don't see how we'll ever know if it happened, or if it's pending, or anything.

In a previous thread, someone had a link which showed it is still ongoing.

Roussette · 24/11/2021 18:51

I understood it had been dropped because the staff concerned withdrew the allegations.
We'll see won't we?

julieca · 24/11/2021 20:13

@Roussette do you know why they withdrew them?

Serenster · 24/11/2021 20:22

There was an article in the Times on 13 November stating this:

“Buckingham Palace confirmed that its investigation into claims that Meghan bullied royal staff is still going on after eight months. Last night a spokesman said: “The review and the consideration of the issues raised is still being actively worked on.”

So no, not dropped.

Lawyers can get into serious ethical hot water for making statements on behalf of a client that they themselves have no personal knowledge of, so it’s a very risky thing to do. It will be interesting to see if Schillings is quite so ready to make such comments in future, given what happened in the ongoing court case. No lawyer wants to be caught out filing a witness statement that turns out to contain inaccurate statements.

Roussette · 24/11/2021 20:28

@julieca

No, I don't know why. Smile

Serenster · 24/11/2021 20:30

@Roussette

dropitlikeasloth I've often wondered that.

I think it was possible to hack phones a while back, but not so easy now.

The “hacking”of phones that the tabloids were engaging in sounds a lot more sophisticated than it really was - it relied on the fact that you could access your voicemails remotely from your phone, and 99% of people never change the default voicemail password. So, the newspaper rang the number of the phone they wanted to hack, pressed * to access the voicemail system and then entered the default pin. Hey presto - here’s all the voicemails….

To be honest I don’t know if you can still access voicemails remotely like that?

Roussette · 24/11/2021 20:34

I'm not sure. And I haven't had a voicemail in absolutely years. I think since Whatsapp started, voicemail useage has dropped.
And Whatsapp is encrypted so not so hackable.

AnnunciataZ · 24/11/2021 20:46

I'm just watching this now and Rachel Johnson acting like 2016 was decades ago, WTF?

That was hilarious. “Oh well I wouldn’t write that now, it’s a different time!” Who does she think she’s kidding.

I mean, it may be that she wouldn’t write it now, but that would only be due to personal change not societal. And that change would probably only be due to the criticism she got from writing it the first time.

amazeandastonish · 24/11/2021 21:20

God forbid that Eugenie puts a bit of weight on or Beatrice wears a terrible frock, they will be ridiculed and humiliated across the media. Who remembers the Ugly Step Sisters meme that went around after Kate and William’s wedding?

Actually they did look ridiculous in their ill fitting clothes and pretzel hat. I do like the York girls but even now, they still dress awfully ( Eugenie with her hairbands for example)

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/11/2021 21:24

Actually that's a point - dooes anyone know if this 2-parter was made before Meghan's lie about collaboration came out or afterwards?

I'm just wondering, in light of what you said, if Schillings would have been quite so willing to appear if they already knew about this?

julieca · 24/11/2021 21:28

Yes I dont think people really use voicemail now, but it used to be heavily used on mobile phones.

rubicscubicle · 24/11/2021 21:36
@Roussette do you know why they withdrew them?
The original complaint came from Jason Knauf, who claims to have witnessed the bullying. But when the claims were brought to the 'victims' , they wanted nothing to do with it.

From the narrative it looks like the bullying was that MM was demanding ie. sending messages at 5am, and actually expecting things to get done. They must have realised that officially it's not bullying, but an expectation to do your work. Maybe they are not used to taking instructions from a black woman, who knows. They never officially filed anything against MM.

One of the women was brought in by JK, a friend of his who had been a nanny and he brought her in as a PA in such a high position and she was organising royal weddings etc. sounds like she was in over her head. Later she went to back to nannying for a tabloid editor. I don't know if it was her or someone else, but out of those, for sure someone was dismissed for gross misconduct.
Originally it was a complaint from 2 employees. JK was the one to file a complain on their behalf without their cooperation. He leaked that letter to the times.
Later on the papers said there are several complaints actually, but were hazy on the details and it was not that much covered , nor was any proof shown such a case exists (of several complainants, I mean)

Just before the Oprah interview, the palace came out of the blue saying they were investigating these claims - long after the 'victims' had left.

It is not a legal case in the courts of law, but is 'investigated' internally. Very early on, we were also told that the results would come out in 2022. I can only presume this was to prolong in people's minds that MM is a bully and to allow enough time for that reputation to fester. I say this, because I couldn't think why an internal investigation case would take so long.

Like all lawyers, Schillings can deny on her behalf to the press, they are not talking in the court of law. As I said, 'don't talk to me, talk to my lawyer".

Noeuf · 24/11/2021 21:41

Hahah watching Rachel Johnson squirming. ‘But that was only four years ago?’

Harry’s just miserable and furious with the hand he was dealt and wants the press to report what he wants now. Can’t say I blame him but he should have ditched the royal stuff years ago and gone off somewhere to do his thing.

Serenster · 24/11/2021 21:53

Actually that's a point - dooes anyone know if this 2-parter was made before Meghan's lie about collaboration came out or afterwards?

Omid Scobie tweeted that his sections were filmed in October last year.

julieca · 24/11/2021 21:53

@rubicscubicle thank you. Very interesting and intriguing.
