Did anyone watch this last night? About William and Harry and their different approaches to the press. Last night was part 1 of 2.

But Finding Freedom didn't come up in the programme - not the first episode, anyway. The leaks from the palace were a significant element though so it would be difficult to avoid mentioning the bullying accusations.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/11/2021 14:50

She won't actually die, she'll go to sleep for a hundred years as brambles spring up around Windsor Castle, immobilising sycophants, courtiers, BBC executives, tabloid reporters and the Tory cabinet in their thorny embrace

Sounds like a splendid idea to me ... put me down to donate the brambles Wink

A580Hojas Just google "William Kate ban BBC" and it really is everywhere, though they all seem to credit the Scum (I think they have to do that if it's their "story" and they got it first?)

SueSaid · 24/11/2021 14:51

I think it's great if they're giving other broadcasters the opportunity to show the concert. So what? unclench BBC fans!

Roussette · 24/11/2021 14:53

Are you always this pedantic? Yes please I would like some links to other papers reporting that W&K have changed their minds about the broadcasting of their concert on the BBC

I'm not being pedantic. I get pulled up on lots of things if I don't get it totally right, so I just wished to say it wasn't a link.

Google it. Put in the search bar 'bbc William and kate cancel concert'. Endless pages of results....google is your friend 😂

Samcro · 24/11/2021 14:53

would many people watch it anyway?

Roussette · 24/11/2021 14:55

I think it's great if they're giving other broadcasters the opportunity to show the concert. So what? unclench BBC fans!

I don't think it was going to be on the BBC anyway from what I've read! BBC have Kings Christmas Concert every year, and probably it didn't suit the scheduling.

BBc fans... haha that's funny!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 24/11/2021 14:58

I'm surprised (lawyers) don't have a code of conduct where appearing on this type of show would be deemed inappropriate and unprofessional

I expect it depends what they say? If she'd commented on the credibility of others that might have set another hare running, but all she kept saying was that allegations were false

Bit pointless really, when it's considered what happened the last time the lawyer insisted something was false on her behalf ... but then, since when did any of the RF tell the truth?

rubicscubicle · 24/11/2021 15:02

@randomdisneyaddict

From what has been said the Royal Family and Palaces issue with this programme is not necessarily the content but that the BBC have broken their own guidelines by not allowing them the right to reply. Just from the first programme it is obvious from the fact that Meghan's lawyer has been interviewed and stated she had Meghan's permission to speak on the programme that the curtesy has been extended to the Sussex's and it should have been to both. Everything in the first programme is unsustantiated "tittle tattle", as the Palaces have stated no proof has been provided. Only one reporter said their source was an ex-courtier and the reporter made it clear that the source was already an ex-courtier when they spoke to the reporter so would not have had permission from any Palace or Royal to speak to the press. The main problem is the press there is no accountability as they can almost print anything they like and hide behind "a source said" without any proof or having to state who the source is.
They palace were given the opportunity to respond. They did not take it, because they are always shielding behind faceless statements.

The Sussexes were also given the opportunity, and they sent their lawyers to talk for them.

The palace wanted to see the whole documentary, and make corrections, which is way out of order and not really how it works.
You get the brief, you go have your say.

Not sure what the palace is complaining about anyway, since around 90% of the reporters are their mouthpiece anyway.

A580Hojas · 24/11/2021 15:03

I can't read the whole Times story. When was the decision made? I'm not on anybody's "side" in this whole thing, I just don't believe everything I read in the papers!

Nishkin · 24/11/2021 15:06

@A580Hojas I googled and the papers are reporting ‘it has been claimed’

Not fact -a claim

KittenCatcher · 24/11/2021 15:07

rubic, do you know for definite that the RF were given an opportunity to respond. I am glad ITV will be airing the Concert, after the Bashire scandal I am amazed the BBC or anyone else really thought they have the monopoly on the RF.

rubicscubicle · 24/11/2021 15:09

@Nishkin

Do people posting headlines from the sun and treating those headlines as truth not see the irony?
I am the one who put that Sun screenshot up.

Firstly it's a screenshot, not a link.
Secondly, they are the ones who broke the story.
Thirdly, as far as I have seen they are usually the RF mouthpiece, so unlike all the lies they tell about the Sussexes, I surmise that they are least likely to lie about the RF. They put this headline out last night already.
That being said, I did acknowledge that they may be just creating stories and it's just a scheduling issue.

Though they may always be positive about royals, they don't particularly care about them and are all about money at the end of the day.

dropitlikeitsloth · 24/11/2021 15:11

who had hacked into Chelsy Davy's phone and gone through her medical records looking to see if she'd had any abortions or STIs was just horrifying. So violating.

I’m going to come across stupids here I know… How do journalists get access to peoples medical records?! Isn’t that a breach of data protection? How are they getting them? Are they saying they hacked her surgery? I’m so confused! Hacking someone’s phone can’t get their medical records, or was she still logged in to her surgery online?

Nishkin · 24/11/2021 15:12

@rubicscubicle when did I suggest it was a link

dropitlikeitsloth · 24/11/2021 15:12

Also… Surely they can be prosecuted now for breach if data protection? How are they able to admit this and get no comeuppance?

SueSaid · 24/11/2021 15:14

'I don't think it was going to be on the BBC anyway from what I've read! BBC have Kings Christmas Concert every year, and probably it didn't suit the scheduling.'

Exactly. The media whipping everyone up into a frenzy when it was never on the cards anyway.

Newsflash, if the media make stuff up about the Sussexes then they make stuff about everyone. Penny dropping yet?! 🙄.

Roussette · 24/11/2021 15:15

On iNews it is reported that next week's episode is how it was leaked that H&M were leaving the RF and how that meant they had to announce it sooner than they wanted to.
That might be what the Palace does not want discussing.

Here's the source and also the BBC Chairman defending this programme.

Roussette · 24/11/2021 15:16

dropitlikeasloth I've often wondered that.

I think it was possible to hack phones a while back, but not so easy now.

TheElvishQueen · 24/11/2021 15:17

I was wondering that too. It suggested medical records generally can be hacked which is pretty chilling.
Roussette · 24/11/2021 15:18

Janiie You are soooo clever, I am in awe of your sharp wit, it's truly breathtaking 🤣🤣🤣

(Great how you can assume that if one story is wrong every story is wrong lol)

SueSaid · 24/11/2021 15:20

'I'm surprised (lawyers) don't have a code of conduct where appearing on this type of show would be deemed inappropriate and unprofessional'

'I expect it depends what they say?'

Yes of course it's just the optics isn't it. A lawyer representing M on the same show as gossipy Scobie etc when their job is to present actual facts in court. Just seems bit tacky really.

KittenCatcher · 24/11/2021 15:21

I thought they said that the media scum hired private investigators to hack phones, medical records and now those investigarors admit it was wrong and are witnesses in the phone hacking scandal.

SueSaid · 24/11/2021 15:21

'I am in awe of your sharp wit, it's truly breathtaking'

I know roussette, I know Grin.

It says so at the end of the programme, when they give out the statement they received from the palace. If the palace had not been approached, they would not have known to give out a statement anyway. They wanted to view the documentary - which is not the done thing.

Standard procedure really.

Didn't William do his Earthshot with the BBC after the Diana/Bashir thing anyway ?

rubicscubicle · 24/11/2021 15:30

What is 'tacky' is briefing the press negative stories about H&M via faceless, nameless 'sources'. At least a law firm stands there with their name and face for all to see.

Btw, this is not a trial. Also the bullying allegations are not in court, but are supposedly being investigated internally by the palace.

This is a matter of "don't talk to me, talk to my lawyer" situation.
