I like the idea and I like the video. (Not that keen on the big desk) And I though MM looked...alive!

Not sure who the other woman was. But there was good chemistry.

@Mummyoflittledragon

But *@Creamcrackersandricecakes* Kate wouldn’t come up with this initiative because she would understand women can’t be inspired in this way unless their basic needs such as reliable childcare were met. She’s down to Earth and listens to people.
🤣🤣 Kate is down to earth and listens to people . I've heard it all now.
Viviennemary · 05/08/2021 20:36

First we were told they were both on maternity/paternity leave Great. Then up she pops again. Why this constant drive to be in the limelight.

Zuluqueen · 05/08/2021 20:36

I would love to be a Kate for one day 😭

PreparationPreparationPrep · 05/08/2021 20:37

@Rainy365
It just means this is not the initiative for you - but it will be for others. Not everything is for everyone every time. maybe someone else might come along to help you - Kate jas been doing years of research on childcare apparently and now knows all about child care doesn't she and how exhausting home schooling was during lockdown.

Rainy365 · 05/08/2021 20:38

*Why is childcare a woman’s problem alone? Men go to work even when they have children.

If women are going to wait till someone resolves their childcare issues, well, then crack on waiting.

The ones with initiative will love the opportunity to network and grow their careers and pay for their own childcare rather than waiting for someone else to sort it out*

And this post just proves my point why I find the whole initiative insulting. Some people just have no idea.

It was her birthday! She shouldn’t to put her head down for all her maternity leave so she doesn’t offend her critics. She is human, free & not owned by any anyone.
Roussette · 05/08/2021 20:40

What I have witnessed since she posted the video is some women from different backgrounds putting themselves out there to offer themselves up

Yes.

And I've seen tweet after tweet from women setting out what their field of work is, and saying to DM them if anyone is interested in a session being mentored, and how they hope they can help with contacts and info.

But Vivienne - that's a contradiction it was not great when you were told they were both on maternity leave. If I remember It was why does H need to be on maternity leave. It is there choice to come back when they want from maternity leave - I could have come back early if I wanted to and so can most people - or is this just another flimsy stick to beat with.

Mentoring is massively powerful, mad to think its not.
I liked Meghan in suits, she is not a great actress but she did a perfectly good job on the show. Frankly kudos to her for keeping on plugging away in spite of all the brickbats thrown at her.
Prince Harry is a twit however!

Greenlittle · 05/08/2021 20:41

That could be a winner. Kate works to resolve childcare issues 😃 after all, she is doing something about early years...? So, what effectiveness measure should we use and how soon can we see outcomes?

That would be a huge time commitment for a start. Plus you’d have to find companies willing to get involved and have their practices scrutinised in what would be a very public initiative.
But it could be great publicity for a company to talk about how they're adapting to the challenges of covid, striving to improve the ability for 50% of the population to work for them, with more inclusive and equitable practices then they'd probably get more male and female talent.
And also, none of this has to involve all the details being aired in public because the focus would be on meaningful changes to workplaces and responding to systemic issues. Then with big companies taking the lead, others may follow. There could could ripples as people move company to company.

Something that has impact is different to chatting the chat on Instagram so it gets nice headlines short term.

This initiative is clearly not going to change the world, but to the people it helps, it could be fantastic.
Do we criticise all ideas unless they are perfect and will totally solve an issue? Food banks don’t tackle the causes of food poverty for example, doesn’t mean they’re a shit idea.
Food banks are a last line of defence so people can eat. I don't even know where to begin on why that's an odd comparison.

Why isn't the amazing Kate offering the help?

Roussette · 05/08/2021 20:46

I do think those that appear to be massively triggered by anything Meghan does, should really try and avoid all press about her. It's not difficult.

And the DailyMail needs therapy.Grin.. 11 articles on her in less than 24 hours, how bonkers is that...
They are desperate

PreparationPreparationPrep · 05/08/2021 20:47

@Rainy365
The whole point is that some women need that help to start with and then they can be self sufficient - this really is not about you or what you want. Clearly you have not been able to find the support that you need but there are people who are not in your situation . I can't imagine getting so annoyed for example that M is helping Grenfell instead of doing something that will help me. I am just glad that she has been able to help people who need it.

I would love to be a Kate for one day 😭
So would I, wear lovely clothes and do nothing.
Port1aCastis · 05/08/2021 20:47

Hate was rampant when Harry and Meghan were supposedly living off the British taxpayer and now they are trying to earn their own money the hate continues and it ain't pretty, yes any stick to beat them with will do except the forest is becoming bare now.

Roussette · 05/08/2021 20:49

Port1a The forest is indeed getting bare... apart from the old chestnut giving up their titles. That's a good 'un. It always comes out when there's nothing else to criticise them on.
Any excuse to find something negative is wearing thin now.

As always the folk that bleat on about the horrid mm 'bashing' come out with stuff like this. How very hypocritical! Hmm now who does that remind me of..

Roussette · 05/08/2021 20:55

Cacacois

Yes yes yes to that. It's frightening.

SueSaid · 05/08/2021 20:55

'the hate continues'

Oh stop being so dramatic. Criticism and scrutiny isn't 'hate'. You release a cheesy video with an excruciatingly unfunny 'comedienne' and people will say wtf.

Greenlittle · 05/08/2021 20:55

Kate is funded by us, so it is ok to criticise her for doing very little. Just as it is ok to criticise any tax payer funded Joe

OP posts:
Greenlittle · 05/08/2021 20:57

And the comedienne is ace! I usually find comedy excruciating but DH ages back showed me something with Melissa and it was hilarious 😂

OP posts:
Roussette · 05/08/2021 20:58

I didn't find it unfunny at all. Melissa McCarthy is a class act. And there are very very many people not saying WTF.
It is getting a lot of positive feedback. I think these threads are just a corner of the internet that can't move on.
