I like the idea and I like the video. (Not that keen on the big desk) And I though MM looked...alive!

Not sure who the other woman was. But there was good chemistry.

'I actually think organisations founded or run by private individuals should be open to scrutiny by the public'

Yes, particularly when they post their clips about 40 min mentoring/pep talks publicly 🙄.

Mummy194 · 06/08/2021 17:57

If any of the royals posted a glossy clip with this 'mentoring' initiative and an unfunny co star I'd have said the same thing.

You really would not. Infact, you have not.

William did a cheesy (some found incredibly offensive) skit with his mates about a deliveroo guy who would deliver his curry and be splayed on the ground by his security detail. You never criticised this. And you said nothing about his narf little delivery of something, something with a POV camera not too long ago. I think other royals have also done some cheesy not so funny videos plenty of times.

I’m a bit baffled by the pile of Bench books on the table… (imagining they bought them all back and they’re on every surface in every room and stuffed in every cupboard). Maybe you get one free with every mentoring session?

There’s a bit of a wellness guru/prosperity vibe about the video… she’s got a real natural magnetism about her and I do think much of this is about launching her star power and staying at the forefront of what’s relevant. Harry’s clowning around is presumably for the clickbait. Whatever they do, they want maximum exposure for it, In many ways I think she’s an exceptionally smart woman.

Not every post is about Meghan. We were discussing charities in general. I can post links to the dodgy charities if you’d like ?
Maybe you can talk about other charities on a general charity thread, instead of shoehorning negative charities on MM threads and then insinuating she is doing the same thing.

Also, if you are going to give William the benefit of the doubt because of his inexperience, it would sound less insidious if you did the same for MM.

Rainy365 · 06/08/2021 18:30

@Mummy194

How on earth do we have over 10 pages stating that MM is not involving herself in the mentoring itself, when she clearly says in her statement WE. Did we now change the English language especially for her, so that WE does not include the first person, and actually says THEY ?

I am guessing this is deliberately to have a go at her, till the demand that she shows us her zoom with doing the mentoring.

Which part of her statement below does she say she is going to pledge her time. Her only action she has given herself ‘on her birthday’ is to ask her friends to pledge their time, and hope they inspire others to do the same. Do you think she just forgot to mention her own pledge? The whole point of this ‘movement’ is to pledge your own time and inspire others to do the same. She’s not done it. I find it questionable why. That’s perfectly reasonable.

Anything else on that page is just a bunch of ‘what ifs’.

I believe mentorship is one way to help women regain confidence and rebuild their economic strength, and for my birthday, I have asked 40 friends, activists, athletes, artists, and world leaders to help kickoff a global effort by contributing 40 MINUTES OF MENTORSHIP to support women re-entering the workforce. With this time, I hope they each help someone advance a professional life on her own terms, and, I hope that they inspire countless others to give 40 minutes of their time as well.

To that last point, and with my 40th lap around the sun in mind, it made me wonder: what would happen if we all committed 40 minutes to helping someone else or to mentoring someone in need? And then what would happen if we asked our friends to do the same?

The first paragraph includes herself in WE. Then you picked out the one where she expands on the friends that have been asked. The whole campaign wording is WE !

Mummy194 · 06/08/2021 18:41
@Mummy194

Is she not a professional actress ? William is not.

Lots of other posters including @rousette were discussing charities and the RF family in general.

Why don’t you read the thread rather than jumping in making inaccurate assumptions.
You know I was clearly referring to the project itself, that she should be given the benefit of the doubt on what she is doing, if others are.

Yeah that’s the bunch of ‘what ifs’ I mentioned. It literally says ‘it made her wonder what would happen if we..’ and ‘what would happen if we…’

Lots of people wonder about what ifs all the time. It is not a pledge and not an action. Her action was the paragraph I quoted.

Twist the what ifs all you want to defend her. She hasn’t pledged her time to help/mentor someone.

Rainy365 · 06/08/2021 18:47

Sorry typo, should say ‘made ME wonder’

I think Flyingantday has hit the nail on the head with the wellness guru angle - wasn't that the direction The Tig was meant to be going in?

Meghan is clearly very intelligent and has charisma about her and I think she will make it work in the long run, but this doesn't hit the right note for me. I think that's because she keeps trying to marry up the RF service model with the commercial angle, which she's obviously used to from her previous career and which she needs to keep the charity work going and it feels a bit jarring. (I know she's not necessarily making money out of this but it obviously helps build the brand.) I wonder if she might be better off just focusing on the commercial, money generating side for a bit and then bringing in the charity elements later. She's clearly got a knack for this sort of work.

Mummy194 · 06/08/2021 18:54

And my whole point was that you are going to be understanding of people doing things they are not top notch and amateurs on, so should be the case with MM.

If you’re determined to misunderstand everything I say, there’s nothing I can do 🤷‍♀️

SnottyLottie · 06/08/2021 18:56

@Roussette I am always impressed by how well read you are and how researched your posts are (even if I don’t always agree with you 😉)

But you’ve really outdone yourself with that charity report! May I ask if this is a passion of yours or do you work in the sector? Or is it just something random that you read in a general read/scroll?

Mummy194 · 06/08/2021 18:57

I guess people have found a nice little stick with 'making it about royal' because that is who they are, there is nothing they can do about that. Archie is PC grandchild and H his son. Always will be.

How is she actually qualified to mentor women back to work? She has had a limited range of jobs herself and hasn’t worked as an actress for several years. I don’t think I would be listening to what she has to say if I were a woman struggling to find an ordinary job

According to some on here, she's not mentoring anyone herself so that solves that 'problem'

but why aren't people starting a thread about (insert other royal topic here)

I have. On Andrew. Zilch. Little traffic. No interest. It's not Meghan.

Roussette · 06/08/2021 19:00

Do you think she just forgot to mention her own pledge?

See above. Rainy.

Thanks! (at least I think 'thanks' lol!)

I have been heavily involved with a charity for 10 years yes. Not now. I'm retired.

That report popped up somewhere, don't remember.

Cacacois

But... see above... someone is already saying what does she know, I wouldn't want to be mentored by her.

Damned if she does, damned if she doesn't
