The royal family

HBO's The Royals

I just watched an advertisement for HBO's The Royals which is a satire of royal family life and focuses on Prince George. It openly mocks Prince George as being out of touch with other children, rude to staff, arrogant and has him cursing. I'm horrified and wondering how others feel about this. Unfortunately Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis also appear and are mocked. The only relief is that Archie and Lillibet weren't featured (in the ad at least) so I certainly hope that they will be left alone. I'm horrified that network and actors (Orlando Bloom voices Prince Harry) who advocate an end to bullying would then openly bully children. How can Orlando Bloom expect his children's privacy to be protected if he his comfortable to take part in mocking a young boy. Am I missing something 'funny' about this show or is this as awful as it appears. I'm disgusted that this passes for humour and that well known actors are taking part in mocking children - any children! Apologies if there is already a thread on this, I couldn't find one.

This sounds like a right laugh. Anything which pisses off the halfwits who read sycophantic drivel about the royals the Daily Mail gets my vote. I will definitely give it a try.

@Gilmorehill. I remember it too. The personal comments they made about her looks was awful. I wasn't a big fan of either of the senior Clintons but I remember being so annoyed that people got away with insulting children and that others laughed about it. I couldn't imagine how I would cope with being humiliated in front of my peers in my teens. It definitely formed my opinions on how children of famous people should be protected.

Gilmorehill · 02/08/2021 23:06

@Westchesterarms exactly.

Dreamstate · 03/08/2021 00:16

@westchesterarms

But it wasn't a show aimed solely at the children was it. It was about thebroyak of which they are. It covered the Queen, Phillip, William etc aswell.

It was satire about a royal family and the archair institution and stuffy archaic life they have.

Soggyday · 03/08/2021 00:31

It's American dross, don't watch it.

Onesailwait · 03/08/2021 01:27

I watched it last night. I enjoyed it.Laugh out loud funny in some places. Prince George reminded me of stewie Griffin

Hahaha someone including the definition of satire. Like they’re the first speaker for a primary school debating team.

I wouldn’t participate in something that makes fun of a kid like this. I don’t find it ethical. No problem with making fun of adults who are part of an institution that deserves criticism.

I didn’t see nasty posts about Archie but that’s not acceptable either.

Sometimes as an adult you need to hold your tongue.

OliviaBean · 03/08/2021 12:01

Awful, the Cambridges three children are in the firing line, not acceptable in my book.

I would be sick to my stomach as their parents.

doscervesas · 03/08/2021 13:01

The mention of Chelsea Clinton reminds me of the time a comedian/presenter on BBC radio made an appalling joke about her looks on his programme.

I was incensed and immediately contacted the programme to complain.

He did actually apologise on the next day's show, I believe very sincerely, and admitted he'd be disgusted if anyone made jokes about his own children.

Lol those children are part of the same institution they haven't left the institution infact one will end up on the throne eventually. Ah well in another 10yrs they can be mocked then according to you...so your fine to mock them then
Dreamstate · 03/08/2021 17:06

Omg they released one including Archie, where is the outrage...its so quiet...oh my fault the obvious bias is in play

MoonlightWanderer · 03/08/2021 17:21

Well, he was just carrying Archie, wasn’t he? Archie wasn’t saying or doing anything bad. It was kind of mean about Harry. I wonder if things will be awkward next time he and Orlando see each other.

smilesy · 03/08/2021 17:24

If that’s true it’s completely unacceptable. Difficult to be outraged when you are not watching the series.

PearlFriday · 03/08/2021 17:29

I saw a clip of it yesterday. I get that people are going to want photos, but this is different, mocking them. Even though it's not 'them'. It's a caricature. But still, it's off.

Billlius · 03/08/2021 18:17

One of them (Harry or Orlando) said that O had phoned H to earn him that paps were in the vicinity. Wonder how long it will be before H blocks him.

I think this interview with Chelsea Clinton says all I want to say about the matter

Gilmorehill · 04/08/2021 14:25

Oh my word what a lovely person Chelsea Clinton is.

Backstreetsbackalrightdadada · 04/08/2021 16:17

Saw part of it and wtf?! I can see how the writer was involved with family guy, as a pp said it’s very derivative of Stewie…except just mean? Honestly it’s one thing to have fictional child characters do whatever (in taste), but even a tasteful portrayal of real life kids seems off (I’m looking at you, The Crown). And this is way worse - there are a generation here who are being used for entertainment, to some producer’s profit, projecting what they must be like. It’s so wrong, I agree it is bullying. I mean that if they continued with any portrayals of the kids - A&L too. And the bits with PP… ok he didnt seem my type of person but not cool, we’ve all had elderly family members who are vulnerable to ridicule who we love dearly. Just crap comedy and low blow - my usual statement, I’m not even a royalist! Same would go for boris’ kids or whatever.

sashagabadon · 04/08/2021 16:47

Sounds grim. Is there another cartoon that characteurs actual real life living children? Adults maybe but children under 10? I genuinely can’t think of any.

twinklystar23 · 09/08/2021 17:53

Unbelievable that targeting children is viewed as acceptable by some.
