Prince Charles to alter the Letters Patent - Sussex Children won't become Prince/Princess

Apologies for the Daily Mail reference, but it's all I have so far.

Apparently PC told H&M shortly before the Oprah interview that his intention was to amend the Letters Patent so that only the children in direct line to the throne (aka William's children) would receive the Prince/Princess title.

So neither Archie nor Lilibet were going to be "upgraded" to Prince/Princess on the Queen's death.

That explains that slightly vague comments made in the OW interview about Archie not being made a Prince; and why relations between PC and H&M were clearly very fraught.

If this is true (and I accept it's hard to see the wood for the trees with the constant press briefings from both sides) I can see it from both points of view.

Harry is in Prince Andrew's position (as a royal, not as a person) which makes Archie and Lilibet on a par with Beatrice and Eugenie. As they get older, and William's children start their own families, the Sussex children drop down the pecking order pretty quickly.

I think Charles has it right that the British Public don't want to keep paying for an extended royal family, you can see that playing out in Europe at the moment. So even if H&M were working royals, their children likely won't be; and I can understand why he wants to present a limited number of royals to the public.

From Harry's perspective, it must feel like a downgrade. It must be difficult being the second (and only other) child in a hierarchical monarchy; being aware from the beginning of all that William is to inherit. Having his children lose something that is currently their birthright must sting a bit.

This should probably have been considered before William and Harry had kids. I doubt it would have been as big a deal when you are not considering actual children, just abstract ones. Or at the very least, it should have been done when the Letters Patent were altered for George, Charlotte and Louis.

It's clearly added to an already tense atmosphere and won't help family relations get back on track.

I’d take the "we zoom regularly with Queen" with a generous pinch of salt, it might have been just the one Xmas call or private messages sent to her office.
Harry is a bitter selfish person , and the only reason he is coming for the memorial unveiling is for publicity.

Well she wouldn't if it's true. Which it probably is.

I say this also because the lies that were leaked about MM were all happening on her watch, and I find it hard to stomach that she sat by and did absolutely nothing about all these disparaging things said about her grandson and his wife, more especially during the time they were senior working royals.

Maybe the disparaging things being said about her grandson and his wife were (a) true or (b) actually, the reality was worse than the leaks? Given we’re all speculating here those are also possibilities.

Possible or not, she has stepped in for Sophie, when truth was told about her. And the palace has kept other royal strops under the radar.

Infact, she never investigated any other alleged bullying claims. Is this all her own doing? Not being 'advised'

The petty little things are what brought us here, at a place where minor things add up to make some people dislike MM's 'personality' and 'actions' as they put it. Character assassination.

Nothing about what she was told about Archie not being given a title when PC is king has been proven to be untrue - since it has not yet taken place (actually, nor was there a statement to deny such talks took place). Nor was the a statement denying that they asked HMQ. All just 'sources' read sneaky little employees who don't like H&M.

And they defend and have been trashing her via 'sources' for 3yrs.

Mummy I don’t remember Catherine being well liked either , wasn’t she called work shy? Calling Carol door to Manual ? There are dozens of extremely belittling articles on the daily Mail about the Middletons from the time will&C were dating right up to the birth of George.

I don’t think horrible false stories would be any different if Harry married Chelsea or Cressida instead of Meghan either.

Just a couple of months after Meghan and Harry went public with their relationship a story came out via Elaine Lui, who is a Canadian tv personality who runs Lainey Gossip. Coincidentally, or not, Elaine works with Jessica Mulroney’s husband (Jessica being Meghan’s best friend at the time) The story was that snotty Kate refused to give Harry’s new girlfriend a lift to the shops. I wonder how that story reached Elaine Lui?? If you want to talk about people sneakily leaking, that might be worth including.

(Personally I have always side-eyed that incident, and think that if Robert Lacey’s account - that Kate was wary of Meghan from early on - is true, then she may well have had good reason to have been cautious of a new girlfriend in their circle who seems to be planting stories with gossip sites).

I doubt H&M would have minded very much the media having a pop every now and then, but we are talking over 50 articles a day here, every day. Also, with SM nowadays, these stories reach far and wide, very quickly.

Lainey Gossip is a fringe like Blind Gossip, not mainstream. I would take it with a pinch of salt and I'm sure she put her spin on something that Jessica may have said - if true at all. Did that article say MM briefed them, because the rags definitely say they are briefed by the palace.

Going to a national paper with millions of readers is something else.

Meghan , who was back then just started going out with Harry, was invited to Pippa’s wedding. I believe it was done as kind gesture to Harry.

I believe Catherine is very cautious when it comes to meeting new people, even during interviews she filters everything before saying one word, it must be exhausting ! but I guess she doesn’t want anything said to be turned against her, even when she was ambushed by the American reporter who asked if they’ve seen lilibet, it took her a second to move from initial shock to saying nice pleasant things. Soooo awkward to watch.

Mummy it’s true, but I haven’t read one bad story about Meghan’s Mum, because she leads a normal California lifestyle of Yoga and volunteering at soup kitchens. nothing juicy! On the other hand Meghan’s Dad, brother and sister were gold!

Well it's good to see Lainey is high achieving, but it's a blog not a mainstream media. I for one don't even read it, I saw it by chance when someone linked an article - yes the article was admittedly viable, but I was talking vs DM, Express, Telegraph and other papers. I was pointing out that it's at the fringes of media, not a main source. While I would not put it under 'gutter' like say Blind Gossip, but they are all blogs ultimately. From what I recall TMZ started out in a similar manner, as a gossip blog, before they sort of became mainstream.

So that the tabloids won't select a specific picture with a specific angle and make up a story that is not true, just to push their agenda.

It has come to this, unfortunately.

Maybe the RF can learn to not fully rely on the tabloids for the rota.

Are you saying that all Harry's family are not speaking to him, neither he to them? I have not seen that reported.

Knowing how the press over here will do literally anything to catch a grimace, or a frown or a look... just to spin it as clickbait... like 'Harry glares at William'... I do not blame him!

I just think ... and I said this endlessly yesterday... if he wants to come to a ceremony unveiling of a statue of his Mother that died in a tragic accident when he was young.... he can.

I'm not sure what the point would be since the UK media will issue whatever they want anyway, unless it's to have a "nice" account to hawk around the US instead of the "nasty" British version - in other words more tit for tat, which is unlikely to do him any good

It would make for some proof though, if the British media lie. Which they always do.

Is there any reason, other than Meghan's word, to believe that the stuff in the press she's so upset about was actually a lie? Much of it was basically confirmed in Finding Freedom, though with a different spin. If the Queen knew that the reports about Sophie were false, and also knew or at least suspected that the reports about Meghan were based in truth, that would be a pretty good reason for her get involved for Sophie but not for Meghan. Have any other bullying claims ever been reported? If not, it's not surprising that no others have ever been investigated.

Just by the numbers, it's getting harder and harder to believe that every single person who had some issue with Meghan must be racist.
