The royal family

To be shocked at some RF members turning their back?

fiheka · 06/05/2021 16:35

It has been reported that some Royal Family members literally turned their back on Prince Harry at Prince Philip's funeral and refused to even acknowledge him.
I have had extended family members behave badly and are in no hurry to be friendly. But I think this is appalling behaviour. I would never do that and especially not at a funeral.
It reminds me of that video being shared where William and Kate totally snub and ignore Harry and Meghan.
It is just so rude and awful.

@Mummy194

The rules were changed before Harry and Megan even met - how is that sudden?

The rules have not changed yet. They are proposing to change them for Archie. As things stand, he should still proceed to be Prince when PC takes over.

What will be interesting is to see if they stick to that proposal, now that they have been exposed.

They changed in 2012. Do keep up.

Wherever the ‘truths’ lie and whoever did what etc I cannot begin to understand the Oprah Winfrey interview. How on earth they thought that was any kind of a good idea. Then to have to attend a funeral having just done that - bloody hell. Whoever in the rf is blameless must have been furious absolutely fuming when seeing him. Anyone who mistreated Meghan (if she was - haven’t really followed and who am I to know anyway) probably fuming for different crap reasons.
I can imagine in those circs saying a terse ‘we need to speak today obviously but I am beyond furious with you’.

mermaidsariel · 11/05/2021 18:01

I think M thinks if she just keeps on talking about how hard done by she perceives herself to be, she’ll raise her profile, people will think she’s wonderful, and the ‘firm’ will coming running with lots of apologies. She’s woefully naive and self absorbed. Harry just trots along behind her , nodding his head. He seems to have lost all sense of perspective.

Marmaladeagain · 11/05/2021 18:40

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earl_of_Dumbarton
this is the hereditary line for Harry's children - if he'd only had daughters it wouldn't have continued as can only go through female line.

H&M refused for Archie to be known as this as they are demanding same as William - an heir to the throne.... that's what's going on with Harry. It's a massive strop and he thinks he can force Charles to make Archie a Prince if he makes a big mess and confuses everyone. The 2012 cover all of this already. Harry wants that changed.

SheldonesqueCountessDumbarton · 11/05/2021 19:03

If they don’t think that the earldom is fitting or enough, I’ll have it.

Thanking you.

If that doesn’t get me to the top of the bus queue, nothing will 😊

Viviennemary · 11/05/2021 19:14

I understood they declined the option to use Earl of Dumbarton. It was Prince of nothing.

Viviennemary · 11/05/2021 19:15

Oops or that should be. Grin

MagicSummer · 11/05/2021 19:20

I cannot see the point of this child being made a Prince, he is way down the line of succession, and God forbid any accidents, he will be well side-lined by the time George, Charlotte and Louis are of an age to marry. Why the hysteria? Look at the precedents!

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 11/05/2021 19:24

Dumbarton is a perfectly fine place. Snobs Grin

Been lurking a while. What absolutely annoys me is the way almost every speech thry make about any subject contains the word compassion.Where was the compassion for a very elderly sovereign nearing the end of her life and decades of duty, with her husband critically ill when they did that interview?Even if one person in the extended family had actually said something offensive to trash the whole institution and basically stick a middle finger up at all us suckers who watched the 'spectacle' of the wedding made me lose all sympathy.Prior to that I thought fair enough, off you go and lead your more truthful and private lives. But it seems to be anything but to me.

Marmaladeagain · 11/05/2021 19:40

They declined him being known as it, but if you look at wiki page near bottom you'll seen line of succession - so Harry, then Archie's name - so would only be one of the children that is entitled to that obviously, so the others wouldn't have even had that - but as you say wasn't good enough for Harry.

He was probably told (definitely) told in 2012, but probably didn't understand or thought he'd ignore it and throw a strop saying I want you do create another letters patent change to suit me.... he does have a bit of a problem with not being the heir - he did say the others are "trapped" because heirs. I think the lady protest too much etc..

Yes, that’s it in a nutshell. Compassionate they ain’t.
CallmeHendricks · 11/05/2021 19:58

"Uplifting and uniting communities—local and global, online and offline—one act of compassion at a time."

"As we work to build a better world, One act of compassion at a time."

Yeah, I can't see much compassion in action the way they've behaved towards their elderly relatives.
Charity begins at home, after all.

Viviennemary · 11/05/2021 19:59

As it stands Archie is entitled to be called Prince when Prince Charles becomes King. I wonder if that will change. I imagine an almighty fuss will be created if it is. Still we shall have to wait and see.

LittleBearPad · 11/05/2021 20:02

@ohforarainyday

I disagree that it's acceptable for the BRF to engage in a smear campaign against their own son/grandson.

What the BRF have released or leaked about Harry over the years is far worse than what Harry said in that one interview.

But it’s ok for Harry to smear the rest of the royal family?

Worth remembering that Earl is used as a forename in America, so if he'd been called the Earl of Dumbarton it's likely folk would have mentally deleted the "of" and just assumed it was his name

Whereas there's less likely to be a mistake with "Prince" ...

derxa · 11/05/2021 20:11

I watched the Queen's Speech today. 95 and still working. That's service.

Billandben444 · 11/05/2021 20:11

I remember reading in some rag that they 'had said' they didn't want the Earl of Dumbarton title because Earl is a first name in the US.

Mummyoflittledragon · 11/05/2021 20:14

@Marmaladeagain

Yes those photos were in the public domain, perhaps Harry should have googled himself Grin, Meghan might be able to help him.

The thing is all children forget what fun they had before they're 7 really. Quite often, what they're remembering is the photos they've seen of the holidays, not the actual event.

You realise as you get older that your own parents looked out for you when you didn't even know you were alive, let alone whether you had gone on a bike ride with them. Reason being your own kids grow up and claim never to have been to a Castle, or whatever they say - and then you can produce the photos of them at 10 castles Grin.

Twenty years it will be Archie saying my parents never let me see my cousins and I'm angry, my parents never let me visit castles.... etc Harry's face will be priceless, he will then realise no-one is a perfect parent.

Maturing is accepting your parents' faults and seeing what they struggled with - not only seeing it from one point of view (Diana's) sometimes life is just a mess.

I totally agree with this. It’s so easy to write a book about a 2 year old, who has a brilliant bond with his father. How will this look when he’s 12, 15 or 22?

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 11/05/2021 20:15

My Name is NOT Earl?

Viviennemary · 11/05/2021 20:16

The 2012 change of rules only affected Williams children who were not yet born and not any prospective children of Harry's. That's my understanding.

CallmeHendricks · 11/05/2021 20:44

Lauren15 · 11/05/2021 22:03

Maturing is accepting your parents’ faults and seeing what they struggled with. Not just what they might have done ‘wrong’ when you were a child but accept the people they are today.
