Palace appoints external lawyers to probe MM bullying...

Last week, in the lead up to Meghan and Harry’s eagerly anticipated Oprah interview, Palace sources were quoted as saying that the Palace was “prepared to retaliate with fresh disclosures about the couple’s behaviour if the monarchy is attacked”.

Great, so what next

External lawyers to probe bullying by other royals?
External lawyers to probe racism within RF?
External lawyers to probe whether there was disability discrimination in denying support for mental health?
External lawyers to problem Andrews behaviour and whether it broke public code of conduct (not criminal investigation, but did he bring us into disrepute type of stuff)?

Is this a vendetta or is RF finally going to be be subject to public accountability?

A British tabloid offered Simon Rex £70k to lie and pretend he'd dated Meghan. They knew he'd never dated Meghan but were willing to pay him to lie, and were willing to print what they knew were lies.

The Sun broke the law in hiring a private detective who broke the law in illegally accessing Meghan's private data.

The idea that Doria has more money to bribe people to keep quiet than the British tabloids is laughable, as is inventing wild conspiracy theories because you hate Meghan so much you simply refuse to accept that people in Meghan's past genuinely like her and the reason the private detective couldn't find any dirt is because it doesn't exist.

rose yep. And I've linked before on here footage of a writer being asked to write a character assassination on Meghan. She refused but for half an hour the Editor in Chief of the Sun tried to persuade her to do this.

Here it is...

I see Duchess of Cambridge wants to break protocol and speak out in defence of interview and bridesmaid story. I read this in Marie Claire, they claimed a source at palace. Find this hard to believe.

No, the private detective broke the law in illegally accessing Meghan's private data. The contract with the detective was shown to state that investigations must comply with the law - so the onus was on the detective and he broke the law. It only cost $200 so clearly wasn't meant to be an indepth investigation.

What the private detective did was really wrong. People use their social security number for doctors, appointments, license (for anything like driving or marriage) ... they filled in forms in all these places in hope no one will abuse their social security number. And that’s what he did. And got all her friends and families social security as well

Portley-Hanks gave The Sun a "comprehensive report" on Markle, as reported by the BBC, which contained her Social Security number, phone numbers — including her cell phone number — and addresses.

He handed over information including Meghan’s Social Security number, her cellphone number, her address, and details about her mother, estranged father, siblings, ex-husband and others.
He improperly accessed details about her including her SS number and sold it to the Sun.

Next step phone hacking.

Where's the outcry on here about that?

Blueberries0112 · 22/03/2021 11:19

I even had to give my social security number to a fast food general manager who only had 6 month of training just so he could do a background check on me. But to give it to another person and using it for another purpose is a serious crime

repeat. He didn't sell it to the Sun - he was asked to complete an assignment for the Sun within legal constraints in the USA and report back to the Sun. The Sun did not ask him to illegally access such information - the contract defined searches within legal constraints - and he supplied information back to the Sun.

Any legal redress would be against the USA private investigator as he breached his contract.

TatianaBis · 22/03/2021 12:31

The PI was paid by the Sun for personal information.

The information he could access as a PI in the US for legitimate purposes, was not lawful for the Sun to access for journalism.

In their defence the Sun claims they only wanted info legally obtainable (of course they do). However, if they simply wanted info legally available to journalists there would be no reason to pay a PI.

TatianaBis · 22/03/2021 12:38

The Sun covered itself as it usually does by asking Hanks to sign an agreement that he wouldn’t “use any illegal methods to locate people or do background checks”.

But then Hanks says the reporters came back to him with, “But if you want to get work, keep doing what you’ve been doing,’ with a nod and a wink.”

rosetylersbiggun · 23/03/2021 12:54

Yes let's defend the newspaper known for illegally hacking people's phones and trying to bribe people to tell lies (with every intention of printing what they know to be lies) for paying a detective to break the law on the grounds that technically he was the one to break the law so as his boss they're somehow not responsible.

TatianaBis · 23/03/2021 17:02

Dan Wootton's admission is pretty extraordinary.

Employing a PR with close ties to the Executive Editor of the Sun/now the DM who now has his own show with Andrew Neil's new Alt-right news is a decision that could potentially backfire.

I'd be surprised if she did. She looked very drawn / tired at her engagement today. Am sure this is all very stressful.
