Palace appoints external lawyers to probe MM bullying...

Last week, in the lead up to Meghan and Harry’s eagerly anticipated Oprah interview, Palace sources were quoted as saying that the Palace was “prepared to retaliate with fresh disclosures about the couple’s behaviour if the monarchy is attacked”.

Great, so what next

External lawyers to probe bullying by other royals?
External lawyers to probe racism within RF?
External lawyers to probe whether there was disability discrimination in denying support for mental health?
External lawyers to problem Andrews behaviour and whether it broke public code of conduct (not criminal investigation, but did he bring us into disrepute type of stuff)?

Is this a vendetta or is RF finally going to be be subject to public accountability?

@DeRigueurMortis interesting you mention Carole Middleton. The tabloids spent quite a few years making digs about CM. Of course as a successful businesswoman she must be pushy Hmm and having been born in a council house, she’s clearly got ideas above her station Hmm. Nothing negative has ever been written about Mike Middleton.

DeRigueurMortis · 16/03/2021 14:49
@DeRigueurMortis - what’s the point? However many times it is suggested that some posters might be a little more even handed they refuse to answer.
Indeed it is like banging your head against a brick wall GrinGrin.

I guess the point is so that these threads are not continually overrun by "fans" of either "side".

To point out (repeatedly) you don't actually have to have a "side" and thus blindly "support" every single criticism/action/behaviour unilaterally in favour of one party over another.

That it's possible to be reasonable and objective and look at evidence rather than gossip.

It's a topic that covers many issues that people understandably feel strongly about: racism, monarchy, the press, influencers, bullying, inherited wealth/privilege etc. and there's absolutely an interesting and worthwhile discussion to be had if only people would be open minded enough to have it.

The one good thing this "mess" has done is provoke (in some quarters at least) some genuine reflection and critical thinking about some of these very important issues.

Indeed....I wonder why Hmm

StatisticallyChallenged · 16/03/2021 15:07

It's very true - Carole has had far more stick. She's built and run a successful business but the skills and traits that are generally required for that are often seen as negatives in a female.

the80sweregreat · 16/03/2021 15:24

The press rarely go for the men do they?
Always the woman.
It's time it all stopped.

No. Not me. I agree with a lot that DeRigeur has said in her post of 12.46.

But on previous threads it has, for me, been difficult to take the middle ground at times. For various reasons.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/03/2021 15:57

Well, reportedly Gayle King's now claiming that Meghan has "proof" of everything she said in the Oprah interview, so doubtless the palace will be asking to see it as part of their "probe"

Allegedly she's also been clued in as to how William and Harry's phone call went ...

How has she proof of a private conversation with her husband and the person unknown? The one where they said they had ' concerns' over the babies skin colour? Did H tape it on his phone? That will have to come out.

Exactly.
CallmeHendricks · 16/03/2021 16:37

That's an interesting thing I'd forgotten. Harry spoke as if the RF were suggesting Meghan be "put out to work" to offset the loss of financial support.
I always understood that the Queen gave Meghan the option of keeping on with her career right at the outset, as a link to her independence and old life but Meghan was keen to ditch it and jump right in to royal life.
Two different takes on the situation.

EsmaCannonball · 16/03/2021 16:54

It's all getting rather unedifying and obvious. Where will it end?

Gayle King: I've checked-in again this weekend with Meghan and Harry, and Harry tells me that (checks notes) Marks and Spencer should bring back the cheese and celery sandwich, they should do the orange Magnums in the big size - not just the Mini ones, and Monica and Marcus should take over from John and Gregg on the main Masterchef. Tune in next week when he'll be telling me what he thinks of service stations, toilet brushes and Take That vs. Boyzone.

Disclaimer: I'm not a royalist and I don't like any of them, but this is getting so tawdry and embarrassing. It's TOWIE-level use of celebrity.

the80sweregreat · 16/03/2021 16:55

Harry said ' I was told that Meghan could work as an actress again or something'
' there isn't any money' .. he was told.
( which I found bizarre , as they have all had money out the taxpayers for bloody years and H does have millions in the bank too)
I'm sure that a job playing herself in the Crown might have come up in a few years time ( if it's still going )
Yoga teacher was also mentioned , but you need proper qualifications for that.
What Harry would have done I've no idea.
Just his charity work and projects?

NuclearDH · 16/03/2021 16:57

Harry and Meghan are as bad as Meghan’s dad.....running to the press with details of private phone conversations is on a par with leaking the content of private letters. Just because it’s a friend who’s the mouthpiece makes no difference. Don’t they see how it looks?

So true. Its like the men get a free pass.
twelly · 16/03/2021 17:03

Another comment on a private phone call! I would be very disappointed if I was the RF - if it is true that they leaked the latest content then the RF will rightly be very wary

I bet They are more than disappointed , livid I bet! This is all to keep them relevant, riding the wave of publicity whilst they try and make more money.

Harry's gone rogue like Princess Margaret. But at least Margaret was loyal to her sister.
EsmaCannonball · 16/03/2021 17:17

Through my job I know a few actors and, even when they have steady work in television, they are constantly looking for or doing other work; films, tv shows, short films, plays, radio drama, audiobooks. They do this because they love acting. Meghan got her big break on Suits and then leveraged it into becoming a lifestyle blogger, product endorser and socialite. I'm not sure she wanted to act in and of itself, and the thought of having to hustle for work in middle-age, without a great acting CV behind her, was not the next chapter she was aiming for. She was never going to be a Dame Judi, treading the boards until she drops dead.

Sigh....as a PP put it, they really like to tug on the tigers tail don't they.

GK quote "And I think what is still upsetting to them is the palace keep saying they want to work it out privately, but yet, they believe these false stories are coming out that are very disparaging against Meghan, still. "

The latest stories coming out have been about the claims made in the interview and the inconsistencies of some of the allegations.

Frankly I'm surprised they've got the headspace for this.

Why not focus on producing content for Netflix/Spotify because those pay checks won't materialise if you can't pony up the viewers.

Lauren15 · 16/03/2021 17:39

That really made me giggle. I must use that at school- it makes me think of the dcs who just don’t know when to give it up. (I’m a teacher btw).

I can't claim credit - it was used by a different poster on another thread and it tickled me also Grin.

But yes it is analogous to a small child who doesn't know to quit when they are ahead.

Prime example : H goes on Oprah, trashes his Father and claims he wouldn't take his calls. After interview has calls with Father and brother and leaks them to the press...cue in a few weeks I wont be surprised to see another leak/statement to the effect off "they are big meanies and won't speak to me" Hmm.

It's just bloody nuts isn't it?

TatianaBis · 16/03/2021 17:48

Harry's gone rogue like his mother.

It’s not so much a vendetta just a propaganda campaign. We’ve seen all this before with the spin war vs Diana.

If you put the monarchy in a bad light they will stop at nothing to discredit you. The relentless smears, the swipes, the ‘accidental‘ leaks implying Diana was unstable, promiscuous, unsuitable mother etc. The sources contacting the press out of ‘concern’.

Unless of course you are the monarchy like Andrew and Charles, in which case they will leave no stone unturned to cover up all your indiscretions slash illegal activities. The issue isn’t even so much the RF themselves - altho I’ve always found Charles to be petulant and competitive - it’s the staff, their obsession with queen & country, the perception of the monarchy on the world stage, and perhaps most important of all - ensuring its survival.

Harry is one of them so they focus on Meghan.

We can count on the smears to continue. If you believe what comes out of the palace, good luck to you. Their previous target isn’t here to set you straight.

So smear campaigns are a bad thing right?

Or is it ok to leak private phone calls to the press after complaining your father wouldn't take your calls?

To trash your family on global television?

Is that not part of a smear campaign?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/03/2021 18:04

How has she proof of a private conversation with her husband and the person unknown?

God knows, unless as you said there's any chance Harry recorded it
Or unless Gayle King's claiming to "know" something she doesn't know at all?

As PPs have said, though, they're playing a dangerous game; the ghastly RF might look after their own, but it seems to be "if you're out you're out" and goodness knows where this will end

TatianaBis · 16/03/2021 18:11

Not interested in the preoccupation with Meghan. I've said my piece.
