Would it really be so impossible for Harry to get a job?

Seriously, He has had an Eton and University education, He must have an incredible contacts file Grin Could he really not have found some suitable employment to help fund his family without resorting to reality tv? I'm thinking maybe Bonhams/Southerbys as an art expert sort of gig (with training obvs) Give himself a pupose in life?, a reason to get up in morning? No more need for dads money?

A few of them do seem to have jobs, so why not him?

I think it's the same 5am emails problem, ie. wanting things done quickly in an institution where the opposite is characteristic. I also think that they'd spent time in Canada planning out their new future and to them, they'd talked and talked about what would happen and by that point wanted to make it happen, forgetting that it was still news to everyone else and they'd need time to process the whole thing.

The Prince's Trust has now set up a USA operation, I think. That would have been an ideal opportunity for them, with the focus on youth work, the chance to highlight disadvantaged youth groups, but being based over there. What a waste.

Blueberries0112 · 21/03/2021 12:09

Have anyone expressed how they felt about the 5am emails? Or were they scared to? not scare of Meghan but scared to be seen as incapable and whiny in front of the Royal Family? So instead, they decided to call the 5am emails bullying

toffeebutterpopcorn · 21/03/2021 12:13

My boss sends emails at silly o’clock (I don’t think she sleeps). Sometimes I answer (bad habit). I don’t think she actually expects answers pronto thought!

BalloonSlayer · 21/03/2021 12:22

Meghan referred more than once to not being a good sleeper. She probably just sent the emails because she happened to be awake and stressing about the day ahead.

@Number3BigCupOfTea

I would have guessed Sophie was about 52. She is 56. She looks amazing.

She is the patron of over 70 charities. Wow. Even if those charities require your actual presence one day a year, that's quite a lot to keep track of.

On top of that she and Edward attend all the foreign royal events - weddings and the likes

From Omid

“New title for Prince Harry: Chief Impact Officer at coaching and mental health company @BetterUp. His role includes product strategy, public advocacy and more. The duke was already a fan of the firm’s app, which has coaches working with the likes of Hilton, Chevron, Salesforce.”

toffeebutterpopcorn · 23/03/2021 13:56

And his experience is...? Who is his boss?

Blueberries0112 · 23/03/2021 14:03

None of our business. He got a job and they moved on

nongnangning · 23/03/2021 14:10

Do you think Prince Harry reads MN?
He got a (another) job!

Lockdownbear · 23/03/2021 14:17

Good luck to him. Curious about his experience to get the role but hey I hope he's happy.

nongnangning · 23/03/2021 14:27

The firm sells coaching services - sort of "self-esteem" and "be your best self" central.

I expect the actual job will be a lot of meeting and greeting. But for a more worthy cause than financial services (which others on this thread suggested)

Harry also did that Mental Health App for the military.
OutwiththeOutCrowd · 23/03/2021 14:40

Here's a blast from the past - William and Harry as young men talking about what jobs they would like to do if they weren't royal.

In some ways, William did get to live his dream for a few years - flying helicopters and helping people. Harry hasn't been so lucky. He has only been able to dip briefly into his dream of working in Africa on conservation and humanitarian projects.

Harry even declares America 'horrible' at one point in the interview before finding a few more positive words to say about it.

Blueberries0112 · 23/03/2021 14:44

Actually everyone thinks America is horrible, even conservatives because of “liberals” and few other type of people

I just ignore it

Mummy195 · 23/03/2021 14:55

I would say Harry more than just briefly dipped in African projects.

I also used to think America was horrible, before I went to live there for a little while.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 23/03/2021 14:55

Blueberries I don't think America is horrible! I've got fond memories of visiting the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. I think Harry would appreciate these wide open spaces too.

Not sure Harry is a Hollywood sort though.

Blueberries0112 · 23/03/2021 15:03

My sister stayed in LA, she couldn’t related to the people there at all.

AcrossthePond55 · 23/03/2021 15:32

Without specific qualifications or training the only 'job' Harry's going to get here will be a sinecure based on his name. I'm not ignoring the fact that he has admitted to having mental health issues in the past due to his mum's tragic death and the pressures of royal life. This may give him 'insight' but he's certainly not a qualified MH professional. But his name and title do have an intrinsic value here in the US and I'm sure he and Meghan understand exactly what that value is.

It rather reminds me of Rhett Butler in GWTW when he's 'beating his way back to respectability'. He demands a desk at the local bank and since's a major share holder no one can 'nay-say' him but no one knows exactly what his 'job' supposedly is. He sits there during the business day playing with papers to put him on 'equal footing' with Atlanta's hardworking citizens.

nongnangning · 23/03/2021 16:02

Is stakeholder engagement work and customer relations a "sinecure"? Quite a few MNers have that sort of job, I should think.

I should also think there are lot of other people working in that specific business who are not coaches, but support the sales and administration of the coaching

catinbootsx · 23/03/2021 16:07

I'm normally a massive H&M critic but good on him for getting a paid, proper job

GoLightlyontheEarth · 23/03/2021 17:03

How is he remotely qualified for that role? It’s laughable.

RubyViolet · 23/03/2021 17:09

Good for him, a jobs a job. If it stops him turning into Paul Burrell popping up on everything, paid to talk about his Mum then l am all for it.
👏

nongnangning · 23/03/2021 17:10

Qualifications for this job? Well, I guess he spent the all the years of his adult working life meeting and greeting. What actually is being a royal, in terms of it being a day job? Isn't it basically being a professional figurehead people from all walks of life seem to be pleased to speak to? I shouldn't think he is actually going to do any coaching.

GoLightlyontheEarth · 23/03/2021 17:16

So just turning up at events and shaking hands? That isn’t a job.
