I don’t believe it when Meghan say she didn’t know much about the royal family. Americans have a big fascination of the royals. She took a picture outside Buckingham palace when she was a teenager. Are you telling me she didn’t know about Prince Harry at all. Everyone knows of Diana so I find it hard to believe. My grandma who lived in a small island in the Indian Ocean had pictures of the royal family in her cabinet!
I can’t imagine that they didn’t tell her what she was getting into. Kate had a lot of training and they even got her to change her speaking voice. If Harry waited to get married, rather than propose after a few months they would’ve been in a better position.

teentipans · 08/03/2021 22:56

It is not right to expect the taxpayer to fund your protection if you have decided not to do the work.

I thought they said there would be no funding even if they did work?

SugarfreeBlitz · 08/03/2021 22:57

@Yellownotblue This is what I was referring to : www.harpersbazaar.com/celebrity/latest/a23309005/kate-middleton-prince-william-breakup/

He broke up with her because he loved her. They do say, "if you love someone let them go. If they return they were always yours"

That break gave Kate the time to explore other possibilities and decide whether she could commit to that lifestyle. It was a kind and mature thing to do, which I believe has paid off.

theleafandnotthetree · 08/03/2021 22:57

@Esse321

Good for Megan, she spoke her truth
Are you being facetious?
willibald · 08/03/2021 22:58

@Hathertonhariden

The laughter at the end was telling. He looked troubled and she looked like the cat that got the cream.

Good luck with rebuilding the relationship with Charles when you've done your version of Diana's interview sticking a knife into Charles.

Yep.
DioneTheDiabolist · 08/03/2021 22:58

That was really interesting and enlightening. I've always said that if the monarchy are abolished, it will be on humanitarian grounds.Grin

I think Harry and Megan make a good pair and hope they and the royal family mend and are able to work together again.

MrsRockAndRoll · 08/03/2021 22:58

@RunningFromInsanity

This would be so much better with a lie detector test and Kate running out from behind the camera screaming, a la Jezza Kyle style
😂
IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 08/03/2021 22:58

I like them even more after that. Glad they’ve had their say.

MrsRockAndRoll · 08/03/2021 22:59

@ChocolateSantaisthebestkind

Meghan is Ariel?! This is fucking batshit!
😱 this!
eddiemairswife · 08/03/2021 22:59

I found it a bit dull. At least they are unlikely to end up struggling to pay the rent.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 08/03/2021 22:59

Brilliant!

Exactly.

I wonder if anyone would dare ask William if he feels trapped.
And ask them if it's fair on their children to grown up in an institution where their future is mapped out.

Sittinonthesand · 08/03/2021 23:00

The racism has been vile and inexcusable- but that doesn’t mean they are prefect, and frankly they came across as pretty deluded and self absorbed. I’m really disappointed- I really liked her, but they seem determined to prove their critics right. So odd that she thought that someone should have shown her how to sit / national anthem etc - that was Harry’s job surely? To me she came across like a teenage girl making a big drama about stuff, with well planned phrases - Kate made her cry - wtf? And also - big deal! Absolute rubbish that she didn’t research them. Going to HR? Bonkers, she could easily have accessed help with a phone call. I don’t think she really realised that she was marrying the younger son and how different that was going to be to W@C.

I think it’s fairly reasonable to assume that she saw them as UK celebrities though. Even Oprah seemed baffled about the relationship between the royal family and the Uk press so potential it’s not as well understood what being a royal means on a more practical level.
Frequentflier · 08/03/2021 23:00

I think it is possible to believe that the Royal Family are racist snobs and the British tabloid press racist bullies, while also thinking Meghan is a complete drama queen. This is a clash of cultures. She wants to speak her truth and be welcomed into a v British institution. Sadly life does not work that way.

SugarfreeBlitz · 08/03/2021 23:01

@HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee

If you love someone enough, you love their family too.No. absolutely not I love whom I want to love,whom I feel deserves it and it’s a choice not an imposition I’m not an appendage of my partner , I’m not compelled to like or love his family. I’m autonomous and I make my own choices and we support each other but there’s no overarching sense of must do or compulsion
The RF is about duty. Its not like us ordinary people. Its not called "The Firm" for nothing.
Danja2010 · 08/03/2021 23:02

Hate to disappoint you but the UK is very racist. Do you know anyone you could ask here that is from an ethnic background ? They would not disagree. I am glad they left for a happier place. I am glad that Meghan has the courage to speak up and that Harry supports her!

snowballer · 08/03/2021 23:02

@theleafandnotthetree

For all his talk of how she rescued him, how wonderful it all is, he looks quite miserable and dead behind the eyes. He looks how I felt during a very bad period 5 years ago, his mouth is sort of tight, the eyes small. And I agree that there is no chemistry there between the two of them.

Totally. He looked completely broken. And however he felt at that moment it's going to be a whole lot worse for him now he's helped throw a hand grenade into his family relations.

OuiOuiKitty · 08/03/2021 23:03

@Esse321

I think this is probably right. She spoke her truth. Whether it is the truth we will never know. When dh and I have an argument for instance there is my truth about what happened, his truth then probably the actual truth.

I do think she came across as rather doe eyed and empty headed(I quit watching a out 5mins after Harry entered so can't comment on him). All of the I had no idea about the Royal family, I thought the Queen was just a celebrity was very Confused She looked very pretty though.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 08/03/2021 23:03

Pure toxicity as expected, and yet another inconsistency - Meghan on her own was at pains to say how worried she was for herself and Archie when security was removed, but later with Harry she insisted it was all for HIS sake and never mind her

ChocolateSantaisthebestkind · 08/03/2021 23:04

Exactly @Puzzledandpissedoff

teentipans · 08/03/2021 23:04

Wasn't Kate PG just before the wedding, maybe she was feeling delicate? MM was allowed to feel fragile during her PG but not Kate? If it was all squared away, why bring it up? That was a nasty move IMHO

I don't understand this point. Why is it a nasty move to correct the narrative but not nasty to ignore untruths?

Frequentflier · 08/03/2021 23:05

I am from an ethnic background:) And if you think the US is any better, well....
lunarlife · 08/03/2021 23:05

Living in the USA the checkout aisle has far more magazines devoted to the royal family than you see in the UK.
I was really surprised when I first noticed this, it has always struck me as odd.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 08/03/2021 23:05

The firm is dysfunctional and archaic. No wonder H&M left
The moribund rules,the must do,layers of stifling compulsion.
Harry doesn’t have to anything as he’s demonstrably shown he’s left. Adios
