Keep watching the little girl.

The women looking after the child shouldn't have placed her so close to the soldier, who obviously was going to salute the queen. Her safety and wellbeing were their responsibility.
Wolfgirrl · 03/08/2020 09:04

Clearly an accident but another example of why it all makes me uncomfortable. It is like watching elderly ladies having to curtsey to kate/Meghan, or beefeaters fainting in the hot weather. It is just all a bit silly.

Samcro · 03/08/2020 09:10

@HarryDaylight agree

Or maybe, why very small children shouldn't be selected to present bouquets!
mrscampbellblackagain · 03/08/2020 09:24

With regards to hair, George Northwood did Meghan's hair a lot and it created a lot of extra business for his salon and team.

Oh please. I've clocked my nephew like that a few times, should I be abolished?

He's small and I don't have eyes in the back of my head.

It was a joke. Lighten up people.

Is this true (parts of M’s biography deleted from the royal web page)?

Sorry for the DM link...

MissEliza · 03/08/2020 10:40

I agree I admire Kate for doing her own make up. It's not just about having your make up look good, it's having it look good in photos and TV. I had mine done professionally as I knew I would never slap on enough to show up on pictures.
I don't blame MM for flying in her usual hairdresser. It's one luxury I can't begrudge someone!

AnneOfQueenSables · 03/08/2020 10:45

Someone asked about Meghan promoting British brands. She carried Strathberry bags on more than one occasion. They're a small Scottish-based company. It was great publicity for them and definitely positively impacted their sales. I didn't keep track at all of the designers she used but I noticed that one because they're Scottish and I had a bag very similar to the design she carried.

Wolfgirrl · 03/08/2020 10:51

@AnneOfQueenSables

Ok but she didnt promote British where it would get worldwide attention, eg her wedding dress or the couture gowns on overseas tours. She seemed to be more concerned with promoting her mates' brands.

myrtleWilson · 03/08/2020 10:55

Re the biography - Am not sure what the other biographies looked like previously but they are the same corporate style now - "x, born at y, married to z paragraph and then one to specific areas of thematic interest.... So if MM's was different - its been amended to reflect corporate style (others may have been amended too)

AnneOfQueenSables · 03/08/2020 10:58

I can't begrudge someone choosing their perfect wedding dress rather than one that ticks a box for other people and Meghan used Stella for her evening wedding dress.
I'm now thinking of which British designer I would have used for my wedding dress if that had been a restriction ...hmm, probably McQueen or Westwood.

Wolfgirrl · 03/08/2020 11:15

@AnneOfQueenSables but you're not a member of the RF having a taxpayer funded wedding. Her dress was so simple, I dont believe it couldn't have been fulfilled just as well by a British designer. If not better, I didnt think the shape of the body was quite right. It was the one outfit she knew would be iconic and go into a museum one day and she chose a French fashion house Hmm

She showed zero interest in promoting Britain or getting to know her new home, yet expected the public to pay for lavish couture from foreign fashion houses.

The odd accessory doesnt really cut it.

AnneOfQueenSables · 03/08/2020 11:24

Did Harry wear a British designer? Did you know without Googling?
I hate using clothing as another way to judge and berate women. I think it's sexist and reductive. I know you're not going to agree @wolfgirrl so we'll just need to agree to disagree on this.

Roussette · 03/08/2020 11:27

According to Wiki MM's dress was designed by a British fashion designer. Yes, she was from the Givenchy house, but was British.

And this...
Markle chose designer Waight Keller because she "wanted to highlight the success of a leading British talent who has now served as the creative head of three globally influential fashion houses — Pringle of Scotland, Chloé, and now Givenchy."

Really not so bad in my book

@AnneOfQueenSables

Male clothing, particularly in those posh circles, tends to be quite traditional and attracts less attention. Didnt harry wear his military uniform?

I'm not judging her on her clothes Hmm I quite like her fashion sense actually, but dont see why she couldn't have sourced similar outfits from British designers for at least some of her high profile appearances.

I dont think it is an unreasonable ask, she spent nearly £1 million of public money on clothes so why is it so wrong to expect some of that to be promoting our fashion houses?

I'm a republican so I dont 'approve' of any of the royals, but can objectively see where they do a good job, or fulfil what is expected of them. I'm not looking for any excuse to have a pop.

Serenster · 03/08/2020 11:50

Harry wore his uniform for the Blues and Royals regiment, made by Saville Row tailors. They made the page boy outfits too. I don’t know which tailors (you said not to look it up!) offhand, though.

MissEliza · 03/08/2020 12:16

I remember the Strathberry bag. It was very nice and her wearing one had a huge impact on their sales.

Gieves and Hawkes - I think - make the uniforms?

I remember that, as a friend liked it and bought two for his wife's birthday, for her to choose the one she liked. She liked them both! Grin

Didn't they send the bag to Meghan as a gift, and were thrilled when they saw her using it?

AnneOfQueenSables · 03/08/2020 12:43

I meant Harry's evening suit not his military uniform. We put so much pressure on women's clothing choices whether they're princesses or politicians and rarely put as much scrutiny on men.

SunbathingDragon · 03/08/2020 12:46

I’ve just looked at the RF’s website and Meghan’s write up is now very brief and blunt; even Harry’s has plenty of detail to it. I’m not sure what the wording was before but all over the other pages are references to His/Her Royal Highness and whilst I know H&M are no longer known by these titles, it looks like someone was very enthusiastic with the delete button.
