@rousette

I'm sure you won't mind that your excellent link gets 'pinned'.

Some of the things MM did before marrying H.

@Roussette

Also: this couple doesn't give a shit about us

Didn't I tell you about the email I got from them thanking me for my support? Grin
(Joke!)

🤣 very good!

They cover all aspects of Royal working life and in my view shoud not be fair game for being called "vipers" by Harry and Meghan - as reported. They have not distanced themselves from this description.

I really hope that Harry and Meghan do distance themselves from this, and sharpish.

Those in Royal service are not allowed, contractually, to answer back in public. Harry undoubtedly knows this. It's pretty low behaviour and sheer bad form to criticise someone who has no right of reply (well, not without forfeiting their gainful employment).

I look to Harry and Meghan to make it clear that they never said any such thing and that they wish to be disassociated from such poor behaviour.

Appalling.

@Roussette with respect my comments on the article and your comment are completely different

I was responding to comments in the article that I found ludicrous. You made a nonsensical comment

jeff I really don't want to rake over old deleted posts, but one was an attack on me. It was very unfair and unjustified and came out the blue, when general discussion was pleasant. Did I report it? No.
Either someone did or MN spotted it. No idea.

But the last time I said that on the other H&M threads, someone told me I talked nonsense and I obviously report all the time.

Roussette - lol. Well played.
alliwantisagoodnightssleep · 31/07/2020 13:12

What is the difference between nasty and critical?

OVienna · 31/07/2020 13:12

and I am not being snarky. Off to enjoy this beautiful weather.

Roussette · 31/07/2020 13:15

Nishky I'm not sure what you mean, but AFAIC we've moved on from that. Let's shake hands and forget it Smile

Rousette Fair enough , however I think you know I wasn't addressing you? We were all discussing things nicely and then we weren't! Blanket accusations upset everyone. Even the posters who are blameless , respect works both ways. The odd nasty post has come from both for and against. Discussing things calmly with respect works better.😀
MissEliza · 31/07/2020 13:36

@Wheresthebeach it feels like that.

Serenster · 31/07/2020 13:38

Stepping right away from all the personal stuff..... a couple of observations from me.

I know the "men is grey suits" descriptor is catchy (and came from Diana originally) but it's not a remotely accurate description of the Sussexes team either at Kensington palace, or later at Buckingham Palace. They were overwhelmingly women, many in their early 30s, and were not exactly life-long palace employees. One was on secondment from the Cabinet Office, and an experienced diplomat, one was recruited from Burberry, and some had worked previously with Harry when he shared William & Kate's offices, and presumably he had a good relationship with them, and so they were happy to move to his new team. Their Communications Secretary had worked for the Hilary Clinton campaign. So they don't exactly fit the profile of outdated, job-for-life dinosaurs (or vipers) as they are being portrayed.

Secondly, you are not guilty of perjury if you overstate your court papers, or embroider the truth in them. At worst you might be found liable for contempt of court if you sign a statement of truth (which you have to do to file a claim) if you are later found to have been economical with the truth in them, but in reality that hardly ever happens. And, I also hate to be a bearer of bad news, but honestly, people lie in their court papers all the time. Disappointing, but sadly true. That is also why the court goes through a whole judicial process to test allegations against the evidence and make its decision as to which account is more likely!

Serenster · 31/07/2020 13:55

Also in relation to Meghan's court claim, it is the judge's role to assess the evidence that both sides present to him, and judge which he prefers. He is hugely experienced and will not be pre-judging these matters, and in a past career as a barrister he will have worked for many different clients, both a claimant and defendant, and will know the value of bringing an open mind to the dispute. It is him that Meghan will have to convince that five of her friends approached a celebrity magazine to provide information and behind the scenes secrets, including providing an detailed account of a private letter that Meghan had written several months previously, and that this became a cover story for People with a big picture of Meghan on the front, without her having the faintest clue that any of this was going on. The matter won't be decided in the court of public opinion. But that does not mean that there is anything wrong with members of the public having their own opinions on it - justice is conducted publicly, and this has always been a vital underpinning value of our judicial system.

Fairyliz · 31/07/2020 13:58

Can anyone explain to me why the Royal family needs modernising, surely it’s usp is that it’s traditional?
Shall we junk the furniture and painting in the palaces and replace them with a nice shade of grey walls and furniture from Ikea? What about those silly bearskin hats, surely those men would be more comfortable in joggers and a baseball cap?
Surely anyone joining the RF knows what they are getting into.

YouSayWhat · 31/07/2020 14:00

I know fairyliz and the household cavalrymen still wearing the same uniform since 1787.

Kiwiz · 31/07/2020 14:00

What has happened to this thread, I can’t keep up.

Harry being compared to a carnivore lecturing on vegetarianism was a foreseeable criticism.

In the Anne documentary, she said that her father told her she’d have all manner of roles and requests thrown at her but she should only choose those that she had a genuine interest in. It then showed her with mainly animal-related charities.

It strikes me as something Harry did well during his royal days, he focused on veterans and mental health. But since he’s left, his interests seem far too broad and often in conflict with how he lives his life. For as long as he continues to do this, he should expect criticism, sadly.

Nishky · 31/07/2020 14:11

@Roussette good plan. Sorry for delayed post. Went shopping

YouSayWhat · 31/07/2020 14:16

Love your joke Rousette!

MissEliza · 31/07/2020 14:18

@Serenster thank you for your insights. They're very interesting.

jeffgoldblumlovespenguins · 31/07/2020 14:30

Rightly or wrongly we brits feel we own the royal family, they've always been part of our national identity.
We fund them , they bring tourist money to our country.
Like family members we follow their lives , celebrating with them , criticising their wrong moves .
In might be unfair but their privilege means we hold them to a higher standard than ourselves.
We like to discuss what they get up to snd always have done, people come from different angles , however no one person's opinion is wrong just different and we should all be allowed that opinion.
It's the price of being royal 👑, if you want the riches and position you must expect the lack of privacy and criticism.

Roussette · 31/07/2020 14:38

Nishky Smile

Fairyliz I don't think the busbys should go (think they're called that), the horses, the pomp and ceremony etc, because it's a huge tourist draw. I'm thinking about the stuff we don't know about more, the behind closed doors royal household. I glazed over reading about them on Wiki. Vast...
This bit amused me...
"the Sovereign's own household incorporates representatives of other estates of the Realm, including the Government, the Military, and the Church. Government whips, defence chiefs, several clerics, scientists, musicians, poets, and artists hold honorary positions within the Royal Household."

Thinking of musicians, poets and artists, does that mean they still have court jesters?! Grin

Roussette · 31/07/2020 14:44

Apparently there are Royal Households, Households, and Lesser Households.
Equirries, Extra equirries, Ladies in Waiting, Extra Ladies in Waiting, ladies of the bedchamber, temporary ladies of the bedchamber and then... 'women' of the bedchamber, extra women of the bedchamber and temporary women of the bedchamber. And too many other posts too numerous to type out.
What the heck difference is there between a lady and a woman of the bedchamber.

1,000 staff just for the Royal household Shock Shock Shock

Roussette · 31/07/2020 14:45

Sorry that should read 'equerries'.
