@rousette

I'm sure you won't mind that your excellent link gets 'pinned'.

Some of the things MM did before marrying H.

Ppl have put loads of posts worse than that on here, and even now they still comment and validate such articles. Those posters never get banned. Nice try though. What you can do now is think about how offended you feel, and multiply it by the pile on that MM has and you get the jist of why ppl report to MN.

I'm not offended Grin that's hilarious. why would I be offended? I'm just calling out the double standards. But you can't, or refuse, to see it so I give up.

EthelMayFergus · 30/07/2020 12:43

For the record, I would just like to say that I am neither outraged or offended because I don't know Angela Kelly and I'm a normal person that doesn't get offended because of a person I don't know having an opinion of another person I don't know.

I just wanted to point out that you don't have to bring one woman down to elevate another. It makes you look spiteful.

Mummy195 · 30/07/2020 12:44

@TheNavigator

I haven't read the article, but I do think some posters are dismissing just how vile a lot of the comments were on MM on thread after thread after thread. The most overtly misogynistic & racist were deleted, but that still left hundreds of really unpleasant stuff. One poster even went to the trouble of starting a witless & unpleasant mock blog to mock her, complete with faux Americanisms treating her as a total object of ridicule.

That level of hate cannot be compared to a link to one unpleasant article.

This.

I like MM's slightly messy look hair, I thought it was artful and deliberate - it worked with the more austere dress. She looked wonderful. I also loved Kate's wedding dress, I thought the lace was exquisite and the style really emphasised her elegant figure. I don't think either B or E could really match them in the style stakes.

So, who on earth am I elevating here?

I thought Eugenie looked beautiful, radiant and very regal!
Her dress was lovely and showed love and respect for hmq.

out of curiosity, do you believe that all those negative articles on MM are hatchet jobs too?[/quote]
If you could be more explicit, I will gladly offer you my opinion.

EthelMayFergus · 30/07/2020 12:50

Don't you know? It's just... well, you're the op.

mrscampbellblackagain · 30/07/2020 12:50

Thing is, surely we can all agree that it is the women who get the worst of it, the press has been pretty dreadful about every female member of the RF and now their staff.

And there is a very strong thread of snobbishness through out a lot of the press commentary. I imagine AK is resented by a lot of staff etc. I have watched the Judy Dench/Billy Connolly film about Queen Victoria, I know how this works Wink

mrscampbellblackagain · 30/07/2020 12:52

I loved Meghan's evening wedding dress, not such a fan of her day dress. Kate looked fab but did have the weird pointy boob thing going on.

In fact Meghan's evening look was just perfect from her hair through to the aquamarine ring which was Diana's and I think a cartier bracelet which was a gift from Charles. Have said before that I wish I had in laws who gifted me cartier bracelets Wink

My0My · 30/07/2020 12:52

Many people have commented on extracts from the recent book serialisation where Angela Kelly is clearly criticised. The word vipers about the staff has also come from this book. We were led to believe HandM sanctioned this book and it was putting their side of the story. They now say they didn’t speak to the authors. But, the authors have a lot of detail. It’s sheer folly for this book to have been published while court cases are underway. AN might not win the copyright case but a lot of Meghan’s complaints have already been dismissed by the judge. We will await the result of this latest hearing but books and legal actions never lead to a quiet private life.

Yes , this is true , my thoughts are that it's not that ham get it worse, more that the advent of social media makes it more obvious.

callmeadoctor · 30/07/2020 12:55

Ha ha, I've completely lost track of who has been offended by who on here. Can we not get back to the thread please?

mrscampbellblackagain · 30/07/2020 12:59

I need to watch the Princess Anne documentary but think I read she said social media had made it so much harder for the younger royals.

I am thankful as a totally unknown person that all my youthful indiscretions weren't captured on social media.

I do feel a lot of sympathy for the Royals from that perspective. However I suspect their immense wealth and privilege makes up for it somewhat Wink

myrtleWilson · 30/07/2020 13:03

There has been some great sharing of wedding dresses through the ages on the Royal thread on Style and Beauty. I think Lady Sarah A-J/Chatto frequently gets lots of thumbs up, I always felt from the front, the upper half of her bridesmaids dresses looked like a fencing uniform.... I think partly because the styling of the sleeves.

I agree Kate's dress was lovely with the lace detail and a sartorial nod to Grace of Monaco. I thought Meghan's dress was marvellous in its simplicity of style. I liked with both B&E how they built their personality into their dresses - allowing the scoliosis scar to be visible for E and the re-working of a much loved grandmothers dress for B

We discussed that yesterday callmedoctor. That’s the case I was referring to.

Since when hsve members of the RF openly criticised staff in a book? How would Scobie ever know that Angela Kelly “dragged her feet” over Meghan’s hair and the tiara is he hadn’t been told by someone. There were no friends in the palace leading up to the wedding and very few were aware of the relationship between Angela Kelly and Meghan before the wedding. Yet it’s in this book and the royal household are described as “vipers”. The whole book debacle diminishes them and makes their reasons to leave look very petty.

Wheresthebeach · 30/07/2020 13:08

I think it's sad that we are now reverting to a time where the topics for discussion of a women in the public view is being reduced to dresses, hair and make-up. Now I love a good tiara discussion but it's got to be more than that or we're back to the 1950's.

MM wants to be a public figure working on causes she believes in, just like a politician that means there will be people who agree, and those who disagree quite strongly. Most public figures have to be careful that any actions aren't seen as being hypocritical. It means their private lives are very much judged by their pronouncements. This is where the pair of them are going wrong IMO.

AnneOfQueenSables · 30/07/2020 13:12

Perhaps it's better not to engage with snobbish, mean-spirited posts quoting articles of dubious heritage. Isn't that the standard to which this thread aspires? GrinWink
I'm looking forward to watching the Princess Anne documentary. We met her at a dinner once and she was smart, funny, polite as was her Lady-in-Waiting.

callmeadoctor · 30/07/2020 13:12

i just think "thank goodness" for this case and also the book, at least it takes our minds of all the covid hideousness....................

MissEliza · 30/07/2020 13:15

B & E's wedding dresses were wonderful because they were very personal. E had her scar on show - a great message to other girls who've been through the same operation. Obviously Bea recycled Granny's dress which made it very special. Also she had the most beautiful smile - you could tell she was just pleased to be married and didn't need pomp and ceremony.

Yes, I suspect she does experience snobism and resentment because of the senior position she holds, for although Angela Kelly is known as HMTQ's dresser, she is much more than that. Her job description will be more like lead costume designer/stylist and wardrobe archivist, and superviser of a team of costumiers. To hold that kind of position takes great skill and diplomacy. I bet she doesn't suffer fools gladly.
