News on Meghan and Harry

Since they are in the news more or less daily why not a thread on this. Latest I've read over the last few days is that Meghan is going to produce a film from a book. And later this month she is teaming up with Michelle Obama for project on gender equality. Both sound interesting projects.

anyone familiar with Meghan's circle, who reads the media, could easily work out at least most of the names of the 5 friends. And now we know that they are young mothers, its even easier to narrow it down. No need to keep them a secret. its a joke.

RubyViolet · 11/07/2020 19:40

Maybe the five have asked to be kept out of this, after all it is getting really messy. Just imagine that Thomas Markle sues them for libel.
It’s a disaster.

ARoseInHarlem · 11/07/2020 19:45

There was no gossip, rumour or speculation in my post. Someone looking for it on this thread went for posts which they thought other people would complain about.

MN don’t have the resources to monitor this website consistently and accurately at all time.

Meh. I don’t mind. If my posts are deleted but MN continues to be a place where women find support and help for some really grave RL situations, I’m very happy with that. Meghan and Harry don’t make a material difference to that many people’s lives, really.

My0My · 11/07/2020 19:45

Now their names are in the court papers seen by both sides, they are in this debacle whether they like it or not. AN can ask them to be witnesses if they believe it helps their defence. If they don’t want to be witnesses they can be required to appear but as I assume they are in the USA this isn’t easy.

If they don't wish to appear as witnesses, would that weaken MM's case?
mrscampbellblackagain · 11/07/2020 20:08

The moderation on mn is very questionable because it relies on people reporting. A while back I had a post deleted and when I queried it, I was told I was reported for being ableist for calling someone crazy. This person had made the most libellous allegations about William but that was apparently fine to stand until I pointed it out to mn.

Whilst I agree with your sentiment, the problem with your posts being deleted is that it racks up against your profile. Suddenly you receive an email telling you that perhaps MN isn't the site for you. This is what we are hearing from banned posters.

It concerns me too that MN seem to be relying on the judgement of members who are reporting posts, without any evidence of further scrutiny being applied.

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/07/2020 20:09

I don't see how the 'friends' will remain anonymous - too many people now know their names surely? I think I said before but complainants in rape trials against celebs have been named on twitter, can't see how these women will get better treatment.

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/07/2020 20:11

Indeed @Myimaginarycathadfleas, I don't mind getting deleted if I have said something really dreadful. My entire threat about India Knight and Eric Joyce was deleted and I understood why. But it is when it seems unfair and it looks like you have done something wrong that it rankles.

OMG, I have become MM Wink

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/07/2020 20:12

That was a thread about India Knight, I wasn't threatening them Wink

My0My · 11/07/2020 20:13

Being raped is very very different to speaking to the media about a friend. Very different and those leaks are not acceptable.

If there are complaints about what I posted, maybe it was too close to the motives of using the Chancery court. I’m speculating now but perhaps MMs friends are lurking on MN? After all, anyone can join!

Furthermore, it’s an unbalanced decision because of what is always to stand in other threads about other people.

Michael Jackson, someone who I would never in a gazillion years let any of my children anywhere near, is currently being called all kinds of names. However, regardless of your opinion of him (and I’m not a fan) it’s largely rumour, speculation and unsubstantiated gossip.

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/07/2020 20:16

I don't think any leaks are acceptable really but my point was surely the victims of rape should have a higher expectation of anonymity that some people who were talking to the press.

I just think it unlikely that their identities won't be leaked.

My0My · 11/07/2020 20:16

I think it’s AN who will want to question the friends. This is about privacy. I would imagine AN will say Meghan compromised her own privacy by briefing her friends. Only a guess though.

mrscampbellblackagain · 11/07/2020 20:20

I still can't quite work out why MM brought this case. What does she really hope to achieve? An apology from the DM? An apology from the RF? Neither of which seem at all likely.

With the DM, even if they lost, they won't back off, they will just do more subtle barbed pieces about her.

ButteryPuffin · 11/07/2020 20:26

I don't think she's come across the term 'Phyrric victory', @mrscampbellblackagain.

My unfounded speculation which will probably be deleted before long is that she hoped it would get the public onside and show that she was being bullied by the press, which would make her departure from the U.K. acceptable and understandable. It backfired and I get the impression Meghan isn’t good at backing down well (lots of people aren’t, so I’m not saying this as a criticism) so in her case that means continuing with the hope/expectation that eventually people will come round and see it from her point of view.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2020 20:31

Then perhaps they should have thought of that before tattling to the media?

Apparently it's being reported that any payout will be donated to a bullying charity, so sooner or later we'll probably be told that Meghan's motives are entirely altruistic and based on her support for a worthy cause

Oldbutstillgotit · 11/07/2020 20:35

100% agree .

Perhaps MN isn’t the site for me, if it wishes to apply its own rules arbitrarily or in a partisan fashion. It’ll become even more of an echo chamber than it already is.

KatherineParr4 · 11/07/2020 20:45

Well said..

Samcro · 11/07/2020 21:35

Right hmm, but personal and spiteful comments about people like Amber Heard, Boris Johnson, Donald Trump... is absolutely fine and dandy!

At last some one admits that there are some spiteful and personal post made about mm

I’m not sure how you misinterpreted that but the full post, which you didn’t quote, said that MNHQ were deleting posts because we're not keen for the H&M threads to return to rumour, speculation and unsubstantiated gossip - our members tend to report this type of post as not in the spirit of the site and I commented that that was effectively saying that personal and spiteful comments about Amber, Boris, Donald etc are therefore in the spirit of the site because those stand and are not deleted.
Blossom513 · 11/07/2020 21:44

Oh give over Samcro. That is not actually what the post you quoted says or even implies.

Samcro · 11/07/2020 21:47

Its the way i read it. If i misread it im sorry.
