Since they are in the news more or less daily why not a thread on this. Latest I've read over the last few days is that Meghan is going to produce a film from a book. And later this month she is teaming up with Michelle Obama for project on gender equality. Both sound interesting projects.

I think what is disappointing is that she clearly despises the RF - and the UK? - but very happy to use the platform of being royal to get everything she wanted in LA which she hadn’t achieved in her career to date and was unlikely to achieve.

EthelMayFergus · 11/07/2020 07:59

(I went to bed at 10 so I didn't see the deleted posts, sorry if this is now off topic.) Re Meghan and her dad, something that struck me was their modest living conditions during Meghan's teens, yet he paid her expensive school fees. I think he did his best, those fees wouldn't have been small change to him like it would for others.

Gosh. What a lot of deleted posts. I did see them but I can't remember who said what and don't recall anything especially contentious. Funny how it happens overnight. Almost as if someone in a different time zone is going through the thread....

Did someone suggest that Meghan sought secrecy not privacy? And pointed out there is a difference. I must have imagined it.

WinnieTheW0rm · 11/07/2020 08:51

"I'm trying to remember which big libel case ended that way. And no awards for costs. Totally ruinous"

This isn't a libel case, it's a copyright case.

(And even if she were awarded peppercorn or nothing at all, having the other side ordered to pay costs would have considerable value)

CallmeAngelina · 11/07/2020 08:54

What happens about the costs her side were meant to pay for the initial court thing, whereby many of her claims were thrown out? Will she already have paid those, or are they deferred until the outcome of the main case?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2020 09:24

Angelina I believe a PP with knowledge of these things said a sort of "pay as you go" could be requested, but whether this is usual and whether or not it has I couldn't say

BedknobsNoBroomsticks · 11/07/2020 09:32

Woah what's with all of the deleted posts.

It is quite disappointing the way things have turned out. Harry and Meghan could have done a lot of good but now it feels like it is too late for that. They have burnt their bridges with a lot of people through their own actions.

RoseAndRose · 11/07/2020 09:32

They'll probably wait for the final outcome.

I have some faint (and probably entirely erroneous) memory that she was ordered to pay £60k for the hearing in which she lost.

If she wins, and presents her bill to the other side for £800,000; then they pay her £740,000 at that point. (Or at least that's how I think it'll work)

Myimaginarycathadfleas · 11/07/2020 09:33

The impression I have of the Markle family finances is of feast or famine. At the height of his success TM was reportedly earning around $200,000 a year. And of course he had a lottery win of $950,000 although much of that was lost in a failed business venture. It's still not megabucks considering the cost of MM's education but they were comfortably off for a while.

RoseAndRose · 11/07/2020 09:34

Woah what's with all of the deleted posts

Looks like an overnight spat of some kind. Either that or a spammer getting told off

FannyCann · 11/07/2020 09:42

I had had a couple of Wine and it was late so my memory is far from perfect.
But there wasn't a spat or spam.
Iirc there was a fairly OMG and well reasoned post, which generated more discussion and was applauded by more than one or two.

FannyCann · 11/07/2020 09:43

Sorry. Not OMG I don't know how that slipped in there.

There was a fairly LONG and well reasoned post that attracted approval.

User214934514 · 11/07/2020 09:47

I think the injunction came through. The deleted posts were all reasonable (no fight at all) but made references to certain things that are now censored.

CallmeAngelina · 11/07/2020 09:48

I had left the thread open on my laptop overnight, and saw on my mobile this morning lots of deletions. Some of the late-evening posts were still there on the laptop though, so I scrolled back to check, and they weren't spats so much, but posts that might be considered libellous if you were so inclined - opinions about MM's motivations, for example.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2020 09:51

I think the injunction came through

Are you sure? All google brings up is a load of "Meghan has requested ..." but nothing to say whether it's been agreed

My0My · 11/07/2020 09:53

I posted an opinion on why the Chancery division is being used and not Queens Bench. This has been openly reported in legal quarters. MN is very skittish on this and frankly MM must be editing it! I stand by what I said. Wait for the deletion! Chancery usually gives bigger payouts than QB division. They have been allocated a Media specialist judge. Not a Chancery judge and this is widely reported as being a disappointment. They have said the money they get will go to a bullying charity. That’s fact too.

I said nothing that was not already published in our free press.

My0My · 11/07/2020 09:55

I cannot remember now of I talked about how courts can require witnesses to attend. That’s key if her friends don’t want to give evidence. They will be important to the defence who know who they are.

My0My · 11/07/2020 09:56

What is censored??? I didn’t name any names?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/07/2020 10:03

They have been allocated a Media specialist judge

I've no idea if it works with "the next judge in the queue" being picked or if they focus on allocating someone with relevant experience, but I'd have thought a media specialist would make sense

After all most of this concerns the media ...

Myimaginarycathadfleas · 11/07/2020 10:16

It would be helpful if a reason was given for deletions. I appreciate this might prompt objections but I think in many case something more than a link to TGs is warranted. At the very least the breached TG should be referenced.

Cartesiandebt · 11/07/2020 10:18

@My0My which side is disappointed with the appointment of a media specialist judge?

Cartesiandebt · 11/07/2020 10:20

Agreed the perceived censorship of seemingly blameless posts is tiresome. I suspect people will vote with their feet if it continues, this is a major story & there’s plenty of robust discussion on other fora

My0My · 11/07/2020 10:26

Meghan. They would have expected a commercially minded judge in Chancery. They have consistently awarded higher damages. QB lower damages. That’s fact.

No. Judges are appointed regarding experience. Warby is a top media and privacy judge. See his attached cv. He sits on the Queens Bench though so they wouldn’t have expected to get him.

My0My · 11/07/2020 10:26

I should have said QB award lower damages in similar cases.
