Starting this thread while I digest the last few posts on the previous thread. I think the H&M saga could be as unsettling for the RF as the Charles & Diana bad publicity in the 1990s, if not worse.

@KatherineParr4

As for Meghan, I find it hard to believe that she married him for another other than his title, family and connections.

If that is true, his appeal will have waned significantly now.

Will it though as she has the title and connections his family brings. It’s whether she can capitalise on that successfully or not.
Myimaginarycathadfleas · 03/07/2020 21:28

I'm interested in the next steps after Sussex Royal. They are talking about shifting their focus to Travalyst, the eco-tourism scheme that H is involved with. I hope their lawyers have explained to them that under English charity law they won't be able to use any of the charitable funds of Sussex Royal for non-charitable purposes.

I suspect they have, but H and M will think there's a way round it.

There isn't.

TheSan · 03/07/2020 21:31

I would like to think that Meghan married Harry because she loves him. Just like Kate lives William, Camilla loves Charles etc. Not because of their money & connections, I don’t think Meghan is a gold digger or whatever.

ButteryPuffin · 03/07/2020 21:34

Meghan may have decided she didn't like the UK, but she hadn't actually been here for long, and hadn't settled into what her 'normal' (Smile for Royals) life would be, especially as a parent. I think if someone posted that they'd moved to their husband's country, had a baby but they were now thinking of quitting and moving home all within two years, I think they'd be advised to give it a decent chance and that the whirlwind rush of events so far hadn't helped them really settle into that country.

I heard H was dating an American actress. Then I heard they were engaged and I thought whatever is he thinking about.

I saw it as a plus that she was an actress. It's something you could look at as another acting job, in terms of showing up, smiling and winning over the public. It seemed like it could work well on that basis and you would also get the benefits of a more luxurious life in your down time.

I agree, some of the posts on this thread are so unnecessarily unpleasant. Is it not most likely that 2 people chose to marry because they were in love? Is it really necessary to impute grubby motives? They certainly appear in love, so why presume otherwise? We could speculate on the motives for anyone's marriage, but none of use know the secrets of their hearts.

For all the side eyes and private misgivings he might have, I do hope that Harry has found real and true love In his marriage.

Cartesiandebt · 03/07/2020 22:46

Travalyst is a Ltd company, its aims seem rather shady to me.

calmcoolandcollected · 03/07/2020 22:47

@thisenglishlife In terms of Melissa T (mentioned at the start of this thread), Meghan’s court filings said the PA (MT) didn’t quit. She had a short term contract that wasn’t renewed (hired to help with the wedding and a few months after).

Court filings can say anything. It doesn't mean they are accurate.

Myimaginarycathadfleas · 03/07/2020 22:48

Its aims aren't charitable, so that presents problems in terms of any funds they are thinking of transferring across from Sussex Royal.
Viviennemary · 03/07/2020 22:51

And why is that even in the court papers in any case. It's supposed to be about the copyright of a letter. No wonder the lawyers quit.

calmcoolandcollected · 03/07/2020 22:53

I don't think that's the law firm they are no longer using. The law firm they have parted ways with is Harbottle & Lewis, which does work for the BRF. It is unclear if they fired Harbottle, or if Harbottle dropped them (in the latter case, we will never know).

Cluehorn · 03/07/2020 23:00

I’d imagine Harbootle dropped them on the basis of conflicted interest. Considering MMs allegation that the RF were mean to her, how could they know that to be their brief abd carry on?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/07/2020 23:07

I personally don't want it to be a disaster, I want it work

I'd hope most of us do, just as we would for any other marriage

Whether or not we think it's likely, though, is something else again

BinkyBoinky · 03/07/2020 23:13

On the first page of this board there are 27 threads on H&M, mostly to slag off Meghan, and only 1 on Andrew. Isn't Andrew the real villain of the piece? No, must be the foreign woman.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/07/2020 23:17

Some of us are trying, Binky - I posted the news about Maxwell's arrest on an Andrew thread and started one on AIBU Wink

Viviennemary · 03/07/2020 23:18

I think nearly everybody is in agreement about Andrew. And there is a thread on him if you want to discuss it.

StartupRepair · 03/07/2020 23:20

The law suit is like something in a bad movie where every perceived wrong is included and the judge gives a satisfying ruling to rapturous applause in the courtroom.
I think that no-one got through to Meghan that her role in the RF was one of service rather than celebrity. Really important distinction. If most posters here, giving it 5 minutes thought, can imagine the kinds of constraints that royal life would include, why couldn't Meghan get her head around it? She had access to Anne, Camilla, Sophie and Kate. In her shoes I would have a lot of cups of tea and or drinks with them and really tried to build up a picture of what was expected. It was as if she was so dazzled by the benefits that she didn't read the job description.

My0My · 03/07/2020 23:35

She didn’t want the job description or job she was offered though, did she? She says the Royal Family’s aides didn’t protect her during her pregnancy. She is accusing the RF staff of not looking after her interests. It sounds very self absorbed.

Her barrister for the Court case is David Sherborne from 5RB Chambers. He’s a media specialist barrister. He’s not a solicitor and not from Harbottle and Lewis whom Prince Charles uses. The Queen and Prince Charles have also used Farrer and Co. It depends on the case and expertise required.

My0My · 03/07/2020 23:38

The Daily Telegraph has a big splash on all of this today. They think the Queen is facing not seeing her great grandson for a long time. They are, as you might expect, looking at this from the position of the RF and the rift this is causing. The details of the court case are all there.

YouSayWhat · 03/07/2020 23:41

MM was allegedly offered lots of advice which she didn’t want to take.

TheNavigator · 03/07/2020 23:43

Maybe the RF also needed to heed some advice. Like I say, faults on both sides.

MissEliza · 03/07/2020 23:48

As someone who moved countries to be with her dh, I believe MM had moved from an initial honeymoon phase where everything was wonderful to the homesickness phase. I remember once returning to dh after being home and bursting out crying when we pulled up outside the flat. That was about 18 months after moving. I do have sympathy for her in that sense.

My0My · 03/07/2020 23:56

God knows what Harry’s feeling then?!

calmcoolandcollected · 04/07/2020 00:12

Maybe the RF also needed to heed some advice. Like I say, faults on both sides.

Like what? HMQ allegedly suggested MM continue working as an actress, and that was rejected by HaM, who stated MM would "hit the ground running". She chose to "work" in the BRF. She was included as a fiancee in family functions, something no other fiance/fiancee had ever experienced. How could KP have denied stories which they say are largely true, according to The Telegraph? How could they control what MM's sister said?
