A continuation of the thread discussing the Cambridges' contribution to the pandemic.

Fuck all. Thread closed Wink

BurneyFanny · 23/04/2020 16:29

By the way I don’t know if the way thread one finished was an accident but if it is it’s a glorious one!

Thanks for the new thread Pelleas

I’d just like to say what I think about their “engagements*.......We’re always getting told about the number of engagements they do as some kind of measure as to how hard working they are. These engagements require little effort. It’s the kind of thing we mere mortals would love to do, and pay to do.

They get it all for free, meals and drinks included, plus chauffeur service, and have the cheek to call it work.

BurneyFanny · 23/04/2020 16:34

Yes someone on the last thread claiming they had carried out 2000 engagements was a particular High Point. Pretty sure me and my extended family have worked more than 2000 days in the past year.

Mamamia456 · 23/04/2020 16:43

Twirlycat77 - But that's just your view on the engagements, you don't know anything about them. This is just getting boring now, the same old stuff getting churned out, going round and round in circles.

There have been some funny suggestions though, Kate batch cooking, Kate teaching people how to garden, William milking cows and the royals donning full hazmat suits and being on the NHS front line to name but a few.

I’m not sure what’s funny about any of that (except the last one). The Queen did real work during the war.

Why are W&K not capable of being anything more than decorative flowers?

twirlycat77 · 23/04/2020 16:50

Well yes it is going round in circles mamamia because any valid point about the royals you are refuting it. But what do YOU think about their ‘engagements“ do you think they’re hard work or is it something you’d love to do.?

Josette77 · 23/04/2020 16:53

I would hate doing their engagements, and being under that much scrutiny seems like hard work to me.

twirlycat77 · 23/04/2020 16:53

Well tbf the queen only did a very short stint in the ATS in the war. It was more PR than anything else. They’re all cut from the same cloth.....bone idle.

CathyorClaire · 23/04/2020 16:53

The only entry for Wills on the Court Circular since 9th April is opening NHS Nightingale Birmingham via video link.

Still. No doubt someone will find a way to turn it into multiple engagements.

Thanks to whoever linked the stuff about him using forces helicopters as taxis on the last thread. I'd forgotten that but so shocking.

And whoever it was in the quote saying Wills had done no wrong - he asked permission and filled out the paperwork didn't he? Arrogant enough both to know he wouldn't be turned down and to let someone else take the fall.

LaMarschallin · 23/04/2020 16:54

Well, the thought of Kate actually being able to cook or garden could be seen as mildly amusing, I suppose.

What about Kate and/or William doing a regular children's broadcast - maybe reading stories or answering questions emailed to them by children?

twirlycat77 · 23/04/2020 16:55

If it was hard josette they wouldn’t be doing it.

Mamamia456 · 23/04/2020 17:06

Twirlycat77 - I would hate to be part of the royal family, it must be very tedious at times.

It depends on what you mean by hard work really, some people would love to do what they do and find it easy others would struggle making small talk, always having to smile and being polite, not being able to have a bad day because every thing you do is on camera.

BirdieFriendReturns · 23/04/2020 17:08

I could have done without all the photos of Louis everywhere.

Mamamia456 · 23/04/2020 17:08

LaMarschallin - Yes, that is a good suggestion actually.

twirlycat77 · 23/04/2020 17:10

Well whether they enjoy it or not mamamia is irrelevant really. We just shouldn’t have them.

Clavinova · 23/04/2020 17:36

he always seemed to have an extraordinary amount of annual leave

The holidays highlighted in that newspaper passage (covering early Jan to mid April) turned out to be two weekends and Easter week - hardly excessive.

Wolfgirrl · 23/04/2020 17:39

@Mamamia456

Yes it is incredibly tedious. It must be simply awful living in a mansion you've done nothing to earn, enjoying the tennis court and pool paid for by those who are probably in debt or struggling with money worries. It must be hideous having all of your housework done by a cleaner, all of your meals cooked by a chef and a full time nanny to help with childcare. It must be unbearable having the very best education (other people's) money can buy, never having to attend a job interview, never having to get up for an early commute, never having to do a full day's work or worry about being made redundant. It must be so stressful having a secretary to run your errands and do your life admin for you, shelling out thousands on designer clothes knowing the bill will be picked up by somebody else, having your multimillion pound wedding covered by the struggling public and knowing you will always get the very best medical care whilst the people that pay for your lifestyle queue at jam-packed NHS hospitals. It must be tiring having 24/7 security, fancy holidays in villas courtesy of your A-list celebrity mates, private planes, yachts, trains and a chauffeur. I really sympathise with them having to turn up to an awards ceremony or film premiere every few weeks and having to shake hands and make small talk for a couple of hours. It must be hideous not having to worry about retirement or growing old, knowing you will be waited on hand and foot by an army of servants.

Just awful 😭

Wolfgirrl · 23/04/2020 17:42

@Clavinova so? That's 4 months. It proves nothing and it meaningless.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 23/04/2020 17:43

I'm not looking at the Royals to do anything in relation to this.

occa · 23/04/2020 17:43

GrinGrin the last post on the previous was mine! Hilarious that the pic didn't attach.

Here it is again anyway- I really don't think the majority of them are killing themselves with overwork...there's a reason William and Kate have reputations as workshy.

Kate and William - what are they doing? Thread 2
twirlycat77 · 23/04/2020 17:44

And when you consider what Andrew got up to......no consequences for your actions. They live in a fantasy world. Absolute madness.

Pelleas · 23/04/2020 17:51

At the moment Kate and William get a free pass from people who are enraptured by their cute children and see Kate as a style icon. Also, some of the 40+ generation still have fond memories of Diana and cut William slack on those grounds.

They need to realise that their free pass doesn't have an indefinite expiry date. The children won't be small and cute for very long. To the up and coming generation, Kate will be just another middle-aged woman, not a fashion influencer. And no one much under 30 will have any memories of Diana.

Unless they can be seen to do something useful, soon, it won't be just lifelong republicans who'll want rid of their financial burden on the country.

Wolfgirrl - Reading your post you sound envious.

I always think without freedom we have nothing.
